An amazing video of Albatros DIIs. Never seen this before. (f.y.i. only one "S" in Albatros)

Incroyable la finesse de cet avion ! Je les trouve plus élégants que certains avions allemands ou français qui avaient bien souvent un moteur en étoile

    Excelente documento histórico.
El avión - una joyita de la época.

The first video I've ever seen with early Albatross D.IIs... very nice. Wish they were in more of the footage.

"Avion lindo vuela bien" dice el dicho.Mas alla de la potencia de los motores de la epoca,en este avion ya se ve el uso de madera terciada reemplazando a la tela,y las curvas compuestas(en dos direcciones diferentes sobre la misma superficie)buscando aerodinamia, liviandad y rigidez.

It would be nice if you could Colorize the film

I have a question: On the pictures around 5:30 you can see how the hull shows lots of dents and bumps. I always assumed solid wood planking. How do these come about?

    • @TheMichep
      @TheMichep 2 года назад +1

As far as i know the corpus of a plane is made of a wooden frame coated with cloth and lacquer. So the dents are just the coating without any tension.

@@TheMichep You are fundamentally right. But the Albatros had wooden planking. As an example, here is a model by David Damek: ruclips.net/video/-T2S5CMjwwY/видео.html

@@legionarpublius6342 Ok but it's a model in the video look at this vid at 4:08 --> ruclips.net/video/ihV9piTaTqk/видео.html

@@TheMichep I would like to point out again, in the video in 1:40 you can do an alb. D III see with dents on the fuselage. According to your video, the D III had wood planking different from the D Va. So where do the dents come from?

As this is plywood, I would say, it just lost its shape a litte bit. The only thing unusual is, that we can't see the frame ribs behind in constant spacing, because they should not deform.

Yes ! Recognized the squarish wing tips. The fuselage concept and construction looks fantastic!

Side radiators gives it away, they were deleted from all aircraft late 1916 I think. Any battle damage would quickly drain the engine of coolant and it would seize. They were replaced wing radiators.

Your watermark is intrusive and annoying. Why did you feel you had to put it over part of every single frame of these films?

You might want to discuss that with the german Bundesarchiv of Koblenz, they did it.

At 1:59 you can see a twin engine take off, it’s also there while landing.
Is it known what kind of sortie it was ?
