In my eyes, the Albatros is beyond beautiful. My favorite WWI airplane. Looks fast sitting still. And as all know, another iconic pilot besides Mr. Weeks flew it a few years back.
Yes, a beautiful replica built "down under" with an original type Mercedes engine. Kermit provided an original Mercedes engine to be reverse engineered to make new ones, and spare parts for overhauls of originals. Can't wait for a full flying video of his Fokker D-VII replica!
German WW1 aircraft was on the leading edge of aviation for their time, I get to fly them in Rise of Flight a WW1 flight sim but it is not like the real aircraft. Mr. Weeks you are truly blessed to be able to do so.
I could almost smell the change in air from the trees to the lake - mixed with just a hint of monoxide on a warm wind in my face, like warm vanilla custard fresh off the stove, growing cold as soon as I turn my head to either side, the wind playing a tune as it tickles the unyielding rigging wires like a harpist and slaps the multicoloured fabric stretched tight over the light wooden structure like overtightened snare drums at a Janis Joplin concert - every now and then the trance like rhythm almost coldly interrupted by the beat of the growling engine - almost coughing but smoother than a cough, like rhythmic spluttering trying to be heard, then fading into the resonance … i can control the rhythm! A gentle turn brings up the drums, a climb the strings, I just want to stay up here forever! Like this wonderful machine’s namesake, there’s so much wonder, so much still to see so much more magic up here than down there, the air is like warm vanilla, the sun seems closer, the clouds gather around me to see my new machine …look at them down there, the little ants wishing they could fly!
Fantastic audio. I cranked up the subwoofer on my 1000W home theater and sat back and enjoyed the show. I really like the "Uncut Kemie Cam " concept. It would have been nice to have that video from a over the shoulder passenger / copilot point of view.
The Albatros D-Va first flew 26 years before the Constellation. The Constellation first flew in 1943, 75 years ago. Its first flight is three times closer to the Albatross than the present day.
Thank you, for taking me. Oh, my, but the engine...the sound! Watching the rockers rockin'... there is something very special about an antique aircraft engine.
The most beautiful. I hope you realize you're living all of our dreams and I sincerely wish that it never becomes mundane for you, no matter how often you do it. So wonderful.
That was absolutely great! When I've read accounts of WW1 air combat, I've often wondered how much the pilot could see around his wings. A lot would seem to be the answer for this aeroplane!
Still waiting for an Immellman roll. I'm sure that everything about that aircraft is right now of a better quality than those that actually flew in the war, and they were all over the sky with their flying skills. Please, just a little simple loop dee loop....
What a flight Kermit ! thanks for sharing this lovely aeroplane with us and giving us these unique cockpit shots, such a rugged biplane with that lovely craftsman built fuselage, always enjoy these Kermie Cam videos with real engine sounds that is music to my ears.
How brave were these first fighter pilots. In a plywood box with engine and for the time, even very heavily armed in a fight to life and death to blame. Personally, I find war in any form abhorrent. But that really pays me respect. A projectile in the wrong place, eg. in the oil cooler, engine or even the gas tank and one was lost or burned alive on the way down. Even a technical defect, which often occurred because these flying machines were over-stressed in the combat missions, usually meant death. Parachutes did not arrive until the end of the First World War. But thanks for flying so you can guess how brave these men were. By the way, you are too.
a dream realise ! i flew on an albatros this evning. Amazing ! since i was kid i'd wondering, and i try to imagine the sound and the view from the seat of that old bird...we can hear the resonant plywood of the fuselage with the big mercedes...😬
you need to invest in a image stabilizer but what a great video. True sound and sight of the aircraft from watching this, one of the best I've seen. Thanks!
A low pass by the wizard 👍 that was really nice Mr. Weeks. Thank you for sharing these videos. I'll probably not ever get to see an Albatross in my lifetime. I do have the RC version but it just doesn't compare ✈
I just ordered Dynam's foam RC plane version of this plane. The colors are way off but the basics are accurate. I fully intend to repaint and detail it out to best resemble the version or another version of this plane, probably more of a camo design on the wings. I have been a modeler all my life anyways. I recently got back into flying RC again snd discovered its more fun actually being able to fly my work rather than having a static display sitting on a shelf.
Just some thoughts; 1. It is stupefying to stop the video when you dip into the cockpit, and see how clean and brand-spanking new your aircraft are. Just amazing how everything gleams. Every one of them. That must be the best feeling of all... 2. You HAVE to get a coffee-table book together of the cockpits- HAVE to. 3. Are those the rocker arms going up in front? How's come no oil coming off? Awesome Kermit, just awesome. - Dale in Tampa...
Great video :) i dunno what the wind was like that day but seemed to fly really well and the engine never missed a beat sounds awesome , the ailerons for what they are, outboard on top wing seemed to work well to , It's a keeper in my book lol Thx for this
Wow!! I was moving my body here on the couch as the plane was turning. I think I’m going to build one out of my 40’ aluminum extension ladder and a ski Mobil engine.
Imagine driving on the highway and a damn albatros just flies over you out of nowhere lol Also this video made me appreciate how brave airmen were in WW1 No feeling of security at all, just an engine and a propeller in front of you, some wings held together by struts and cables and nothing around you Even on video this feels much different than a closed, armored cockpit
+KermitWeeksBlogVideos *Thanks for the demo flight of this Albatros.* The helmet cam shows the Daimler-Benz inline's valve covers, the dual ring-and-bead-equipped DWM gun-barrel shrouds (the _Maſchinengewehr_ 7.92mm 1908/1915, manufactured by the Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken at Berlin, Preußen, was a standard arm for the _Luftſtreitskräfte_ during the Great War), and the tachometer just below the windshield; plus an air-speed meter on the starboard interplane. I reckon the altimeter and pressure gauges are in the cockpit; just can't see 'em in the medium-angle camera footage. ;-) And the Albatros-Werke AG (Johannisthal, Berlin, Preußen) even left space in the cockpit for a then-experimental collimator/reflector sight.
Loved the video! Always loved the look of the Albatros...Thanks for taking us along for the flight. Who's the sole goober who thumbs downed the video? Sheesh, some people's kids.
Is this the full scale Wingnut Wings unit? Three machine guns could spit a serious amount of hate. Kermit, you have to go to Forgotten Weapons and get some ammo. Lovely aircraft, there is a captured original in the Australian War Memorial at Canberra. The development of the albatrosses construction techniques eventually enabled the mosquito. Simple strong and aerodynamic, only let down by glues and engines.

I like the Nieuport 17
Nice warbird!

The old gal never missed a beat. A very beautiful Albatros D-Va. Made my day. Thanks Kermit.
Recently got il2 flying circus and it’s surreal to see this, can only imagine what it’s like to actually fly one of these beauties
I can hardly imagine the wonder that is your pilot's log book. You should sell copies.
Beautiful plane I had the pleasure of photographing Robin Bowes in 89 who flew a Fokker Dr1 an absolute hero
I’ve gazed at the one they have in the Canberra War Museum. The moulded wooden body is a thing of beauty.
So glad RUclips recommended this video to me. Lovely

It’s my dream to be able to own and fly a ww1 fighter. Consider yourself one of the luckiest men on earth Mr. Weeks.
1videofiend ik but you get what I mean.
@@МихаилВишняковский looking at some designs... i think i can build something like that.
... if i had the space :(

Enjoy your stylish writing. Thanks
Nice bit of prose
Everything about it is art and to see it in the air makes it even more beautiful
Neat, Thanks Kermie! Keep on truckin'
i was on the first flight in oberschleißheim 2012.
having worked for Daimler-Benz 44 years and having been a glider pilot this is pure fun for me. Thank you so much Kermit!

Love flying this plane in il2 1946 B.a.t modpack
What a treat, to fly an airplane like this. You lucky SOB...WOW!...👍🤓
This has to be the most beautiful airplane of WW1. And as they say, it it looks good, it flies good!
Love the flyby and wave to the RC club mate, brilliant.

Always surprised how low the compression rate is on these engines think like 6.5 to 1 ..sure octane was not very consistent .

Wow !! That was too cool !! Awesome History.
Awesome aircraft, great video. Thanks FOF!
Ahh, so nice to fly with you Kermie. Thanks! Wonder how many of these were shot down during the Great War. They were no match for Spads and Camels.
In the hands of a capable pilot the dva shot down every type of allied plane
In the hands of a good pilot the dva plays 111a more than held its ground for about a year 7ntil the fokker d7 arrived in numbers
Great ride buddy..... Tach gauge went crazy... But overall sweet love it...
damn that thing sounds good

That time when you start the video to watch a minute or two only and then watch until the end smiling wildly :)
Fantastic Kermit, thanks a lot!
Great video.
Probably being silly but I always get a bit nervous watching the guys pulling out the chocks away, they always seem so close to the propeller?
so, Kermit, the tach cable needed some castor oil? I think you must have the record for the number of different airplanes you have flown.
Very nice! Amazing engine sound!

That lever on the trailing edge of the upper wing… for the radiator shutters?
Yes
@@KermitWeeks444 Thanks!
Is the engine really so quite, so you can only hear the wind?
Beautiful.
You don't need a Tach, Kermie. You can just count those rockers out in front. No flaps. Does this one have brakes?
Tail skid.
I don't think any great war scout had brakes. With how light they are and how bad airfields were, brakes would only nose-plant them.
@@KermitWeeks444 is it difficult to steer such airplane like this on the ground, without brakes and the tail wheel?
Such a beautiful plane and great flight!
What is the red handle pull crank under the upper right wing?
The handle opens and closes the adjustable radiator shutters.
@@KermitWeeks444 Is it reachable while flying or do you set it based on expected temperature air temperature?
