First off, happy birthday. Hope you got to spend it with family or friends. I know people don’t care a lot of their birthdays but it means something because of how time is still going and we are trying to keep up with it.
I agree with the positive and upbeat message of just living in the moment. When I was in school or college I was stressing so much about what I was going to do with my life. Being that my computer science degree was full of “potentials” I didn’t take the time to appreciate everything around me, the food, the weather, the music, the games. It all meant so little. Now I realize that it’s not good to stress enough of tomorrow and instead we should try to have fun as much as we can, while also prioritizing what is needed to be done.

I couldn't have come across your channel at a more perfect time. Struggling alot in my mid 20s with alot of the same things. Watching time go by, constantly worrying about death, wishing I could be more in the moment. It's good to hear someone else talk about these things and lets me know I'm not alone in feeling this way. Love to see this type of intimate content. Happy birthday.

I hope you have the greatest -ber months so far!
Although we must all pass away at some point, do not fear the great journey that awaits us all, where our loved ones celebrate us for who we were, and the legacy we leave in people's memories and how we have affected their lives through actions such as the ones you do when you upload a new video.
But there'll be plenty of time to think about that, I hope you have a lot of fun in these last remaining months of 2024 and start your 2025 rightly!

I looked into the idea of why time seems to fly by as we age is because when you experience or remember a big event, it takes time to proccess the information whereas if you try to remember a day that was uneventful or nothing new happened, theres nothing for the mind to proccess so you just jump to "it was another day" mindset. Ofc when you become an adult there isnt much discovery left to find

@@ClassicHaloCommentary So there's this thought experiment that I use whenever I'm feeling too old. I came up with it playing Halo so bear with me
Imagine you get into an accident, and it wipes a large part of your memory, but all your life experience and intuition about things remains intact, but you have no account of how old you are or a real grasp of how much time there has been.
A nurse comes in and tell you what happened, and you ask how old you are. Based on what you know about certain age groups (ie the way they say they feel, act, etc) what is the youngest age that the nurse could convince you that you are? Oh and also you haven't seen yourself yet. You just woke up.

Happy Birthday, man! It's kind of scary how relatable your "death anxiety" is to me. I turned 17 two weeks ago and I've been having the strongest depression I've had in a while. Amongst other things, when I am actually motivated towards doing something with my life, I cannot breathe (metaphorically) because of this persistent thought of the passage of time. It's just unfair. But let's live the moment, thanks for making this special videos.

@@STEPHEN0110 The reason we have that anxiety is because we know that we're going meet our Creator in the face one day. Our souls are eternal, but the flesh is temporary. I hope kids can come to you after class for the support they need. When i was in highschool, i really believed that i could never make it to twenty. Life, at that time, felt like a limbo of choosing to live or give up. I had a teacher for a sculpture class and was the only teacher that put themselves out there to be supportive of their students. Whether it came to emotional or mental stresses, or just one of those bad days. They made coming to school that much more comfortable.
Lately, i still live in a wonder of where i'll take myself in the future. But i know that i should enjoy the time i have now and spend it the way i want to with others.

Yea, im 29 and my life has had some ups and downs. Going in and out of jobs usually a year at a time. Backpacking in mountains with my mom once a year or so in new mexico. Doing too many drugs, drinking too much, and for a while jumping from fast women to fast women till i found my gf at the beginning of this year. I hate to admit it but I never really grew up. And despite all that time is still wasted, slipping away, and flying by like its the quickening. My past and childhood feels like a lifetime ago, same with the simple childlike passion and the years fly by. Im trying to feel out how to enjoy life like i did. I honestly dont think ill ever be able to feel like that again. I think about death a lot, but also how lucky i am to exist in this moment at this time in this far off corner in the universe that might be the only bastion of life as far as we know. I think how lucky i am that i can share it with my cats and how we're integral parts of eachothers lives and im blessed to share that with them and my lady. Life may not feel as magic as it was when i was young but im so lucky to be able to exist and share it with those i love, and see what the future will bring. And this is my favorite time of year. I know ill miss this moment in the future like i miss the old days now

    Happy birthday my guy!
I just wanted to add my perspective from a man about a decade your junior that often feels like he has the opposite problem. I recently turned 24 about 2 months ago, I've a decent job, good friends and have spent the last year getting serious about my physical and mental health. So far it's going pretty good! But I often feel like I'm just a leaf in the breeze, reacting rather than acting in my life.
I really don't have any long term goals beyond financial security and health. I've no idea what I want for my future. Perhaps I should take that as a sign of just how good things are that all my needs and wants are currently met or are actively making progress, but when I hear my friends talk about their plans I can't help but feel like there is some ambition or drive that is missing from me, or that I perhaps simply lack the long term perspective to be able to recognise those sorts of things.
I dunno, maybe I'm just happy with my current modest but comfy life. But if you ever felt like that, I'd sure appreciate your perspective.
    Thanks!

I hope you see this message and hopefully sheds light on the thoughts you have been sharing in this video. (And also a happy birthday, but I do have a message for you at the end of this) c:
Time passing faster and faster can be attributed to two, maybe three things I'll try to narrow down - first, humans on average have something called "logarithmic thinking" which results in interesting thoughs like "3 years last three times as long as one year, and 9 years last three times as long as 3 years" making you feel like there is a correlation, when in reality we all know that it'd take two times longer to get from 3 to 9 than it is from 1 to 3. What this does is that by your nature alone, you can have a warped perception of the flow of time the older you become.. which goes to my second point, think about this: As a 10 year old, another year would contribute 10% of your lifespan.. your entire existence's tenth is what it would require for another year to go by. In comparison, if you were say 50, another year 'only' contributes to 2% of your entire existence.. as the example shows, the more time goes on, the less each year contributes to your entire existence, and in retrospect makes you think that each year is worth less, thus making you think that it goes by faster. Another example would be if something was discounted and now its worth 50 dollars less.. if an item costs 100 by default, you would think wow, thats half of the price gone and it might be worth getting.. but you might not even bat an eye if a car costing 50.000 dollars would have a 50 dollar discount. Its the same amount of money with the same worth, but in comparison FEELS less.. the percentage compared to the full is what changed, and your mind primarily picks up on those differences thanks to our logarithmic thinking. Another nice little detail, most kids when asked "what number is halfway between 1 and 9" would instinctively say 3.. that goes back to my first point.
As you can see, simply the way you think of time passing can massively influence the way you think about everything as a whole and this can also influence future thoughts in a negative manner. The more time goes on, the more we realize we have less and less left. Your thoughts about death highly resonated with me, since I've been having existential dread since I was 5 years old and got my first astronomy book from my aunt.. Great people like Carl Sagan already said things like "you haven't been born for eternity and you will be dead for another eternity, what does it change" and I always found a problem with that.. yes, sure, not existing is part of my past, but now that I FINALLY EXIST, that puts things into perspective, and I'm afraid of lettings go of things that I love.
Started early to learn about science, physics, astronomy and whatnot, trying to find an answer to my feeling until I stumbled upon the 7 millenial prize problems and by extension, something called the "Poincaré Recurrence Time" that finally eased my thoughts to an extent. Essentially, a finite amount of things (atoms in this example) can only occupy a finite amount of configurations. If you fill a balloon with air, there is a limited amount of variations of those gases occupying the space within, and once they exhaust all possible configurations, they can only repeat already existing ones.. essentially, it is possible that a balloon would have all of its air concentrate to one side of the balloon, but obviously, this is highly unlikely.. but it CAN happen, you just need an insanely long amount of time for it to happen, several magnitudes more than the entire projected lifetime of the universe as we know it. Whatever that can happen will happen if given enough time (kinda like the example of infinite monkeys typing randomly and one of them accidentally writing down all of shakespeare's work perfectly). Now imagine if the balloon was the universe.. currently, one of our leading theories is that the universe is cyclical (recurrence) and its death gives way to the next one to be born.. in an interesting manner, this can be explained like the balloon theory. Each universe is a snapshot of the atoms of the universe existing in a finite amount of configurations and since the amount of atoms is finite (infinity is a concept, nut a number) it can only ever occupy a certain finite amount of configurations before it has to repeat already existing ones.. meaning, the Poincaré Recurrence Time is trying to calculate how much time has to pass for a certain sized universe to start repeating its instances over and over again, meaning that whatever that CAN happen, WILL happen.. over and over and over again.
Most likely, this is not the first time I wrote this sentence, nor the first time you ever read it.. it is highly unlikely that we are the original, first universe and this is all happening for real for the first time, instead of it happening for countless billions of times before but with slight variations.. a typo here, a different though there, chaos theory and the butterfly effect would ensure even the slightest differences would give birth to vastly different futures.

    • @Freelancer.Warzone
      @Freelancer.Warzone 4 дня назад

What I am really trying to convey is that death is seemingly temporary.. sure, our current version of ourselves is temporary just like everything else, but think about it.. how many ancestors do you have? Ever since life became a thing on this planet, your entire life can be traced back to it.. its not a few generations of people, no, your entire reason of being here and reading this comment started somewhere around the time the first lifeforms formed on the planet. You answer to not centuries or millenia of history, but rather actual millions if not billions of years. That means that EVERY SINGLE ONE of your ancestors survived to the point of reproduction, despite illnesses, predators, natural calamities and catastrophies.. now ask yourself, high likely it is that its YOU reading the comment, and not some other soul occupying the same body? Is it that much of a coincidence that it is YOU experiencing these thoughts and not anyone else?
Doing the math sheds light on how likely it is that this has happened before instead of it being an accident. We are afraid and aware of death, because of time bringing it closer day by day.. but like I said a while before.. what do you remember of your time before being born? Nothing. 14 billion years ago the universe was born and we remember nothing about it.. its not like it went quickly or anything, no, we just suddenly gained consciousness in an instant and here we were. Same would go for after being dead.. its not "for eternity" or a "veeeeery long time".. its going to be an instant since time no longer has meaning for us. If the universe is cyclical, if poincaré reccurence is a thing, the next thing you know after passing would be suddenly waking up, and gaining consciousness.. after maybe countless other universe iterations happening beforehand. For others, thats a looong time, but for you it will take only a moment.
One last thing - you said it correctly, routine does have an effect on our perception of time, not a small one. The more you do things you have already done, the harded it is to create individual memories of them.. you might still remember the last time you did that one time, but not what you ate exactly 4 years ago on this very day at 4 pm.. unless, obviously, if it was that unique and rare occurence to imprint a lasting memory. Living in the moment is the best advice you, me or anyone can give - cherish and enjoy every waking moment for what they are. Not what they will be years later or "what if" could have been years ago, just accept the past, work on your future and enjoy the present - Oogway said it best, its called present because its a gift.
I hope that if and when you do read this through, and my thoughts have time to marinade and settle, you realize that there is nothing wrong with feeling as you do now.. it might be weird or different than what you were used to a long time ago, but dont ever let it take your attention away from how things are right now - Enjoy your birthday, and we are all hoping you get to enjoy them for so many more!
Last few lines before I finally finish lmao but.. me and my Father had this same exact conversation a while ago. He was born on the 17th of June and I was born on the 17th of September. 6, 9 and 17 has deep meaning to us, but we also talked about time passing and had an interesting thought.. what if life seems short, because a year is such a long timespan? A day is 86400 seconds, yet 365/366 of them seems to be a loooong time. As a result, we started doing "half birthdays" a while ago, His birthday is in june, but the half birthday is in december.. mine is in september, the half birthday is in march.. so every 3 months, to the day, we can make that day ours, meet up, talk, do our usual routine of visiting relatives, but it also means that theoretically he would be 116 and I would be 56 if we would actually had half as long years to celebrate birthdays.. and that really puts into perspective, because it being a higher number also kind of feels like a longer amount of time, even though we all know its just an illusion.. but our logarithmic thinking says otherwise. I highly recommend you do the same, creating "phantom" birthdays where you get to slow down, make the entire day yours, appreciate time and life as it is and just... cmon man, why is it that we have to wait a year to eat a cake and not be judged lmao, go out and get a slice of your favourite one, enjoy the moment and live in it!
As a final final note.. You are special. I am highly critical of the channels I follow, even more critical of my subscriptions and most critical of my notifications.. I just enjoy not being bombarded etc.
But you, with a few hundred subs when I found you became the quickest and easiest decision to fully follow, subscribe and enable notifications. I already liked Halo so thats a plus, but I highly appreciate your commentary, thoughts and feelings on topics that are dear to me. Seriously, I wish you all the best in your life, I hope that my yapping had a positive effect on you, life and the burden to carry day to day got at least a little bit easier.. man, I'm just talking and talking, I can't shut up about how much I wish good and well for you, take care, happy birthday again and best of luck with everything!
