I still use my 2012 mbp in 2023. Had upgraded it to 12 gb ram and a 480 ssd. It still holds but I will be upgrading to an m1 or a m2. Will still hold on to the last mbp which apple allowed to upgrade.
I have the baseline 14 inch M1 Pro macbook pro. It's my first time owning a mac, and to be honest it is great. It's a very well thought out and executed device. For my uses, I'm going to get a number of years out of it.
People said Apple products are expensive, but when competitors like Razer creates products with the same build quality as Apple, they either cost the same or more, still their longevity isn't as good as Apple products. Especially the laptops. Till this day, I haven't found a laptop with good display, speakers, chasis and performance per watt as M-Series MBP yet.
I liked my old 2015 Razer Blade but man they fell off with build quality when the changed their design in 2017. My 2015 had the best trackpad and keyboard I’ve ever used on any laptop, including my MacBook. The screen was great too, although the bezels were fat. The new Razer Blades have mediocre versions of all of those and reliability issues as well, while still being super expensive. Very sad for Razer.
They just show products they get from the companies for free/promo... And do true reviews on Apple computers because they cannot live without MacBooks...
There is software like Solidworks where you are SOL with apple. So you get a "workstation" laptop, which next big thing is made by dell, hp, lenovo. If your professional field has software for mac, you will choose mac 9/10 times
@@vincentvega3093yep, a lot of us urban planners would love to have Macs as an option, but ESRI is stuck on Windows only so Dell and Lenovo dominate the field
Got same model at end of 2021 - coming up on 2 full years now. Love it, handles everything I throw at it perfectly, graphic design (Adobe CC), Final Cut Pro, all smooth and quick, no issues. Love the design, the build quality, the screen and speaker quality. By far the best Mac laptop I've owned, and a huge step up from my previous 15" Intel MacBook Pro.
Purchased a 2021 M1 Macbook Pro 14" and it has been amazing. I purchased it used for a lower price and constantly use it every day for over 8 hours since purchase. I have AlDente so when i'm plugged into the wall it wont charge over 80% and my overall battery health is only at 87%. I have travelled 6 month of each year and still have no scratches or dents. Keyboard is flawless and trackpad is MINT. Dont forget about the crystal clear display! I was Linux and Windows my entire life before this and I've had no regrets with this beast.
MacOs manages your battery health natively, it stops your MacBook from charging when it is at 80%. My 3 year old M1 MacBook Pro is always plugged and the battery health is 99%
@@eliedisso1420I got my M1 Pro 14" used from eBay around 3 weeks ago. It's been amazing so far and the battery health is also very good. Basically no scuffs or scratches are present and I've been extensively using it.
Saying it’s surprising that the OS running so well on a 2 year old laptop is a pretty mid take. It’s normal for software to still run well on 2 year old devices, so how is it a surprise?
I was confused about that too, especially being that this MacBook has some of the best performance. Performance shouldn’t even be a concern until the end of the 4th year going into the 5th.
I think as a new product that came from literally nowhere, it is worth being expansive on the performance to prove to the doubters that Apple Silicon stands the test of time. Many people are not willing to jump onto a new from, and highlighting it is no worse than Intel after two years is worth saying.
Meanwhile I've seen lighter Linux based desktops run incredibly well on over a decade old machines. Of course those OSes aren't as polished or elegant as MacOS, but it proofs that similar functionality can be achieved with low system requirements.
I was never really a Mac guy, but my current employer assigned me an M1 MBP and it’s a phenomenal machine. Never gets hot, battery goes all day, and boots up incredibly fast. My wife bought an xps 13 this year and it was a sad, pathetic machine in comparison. She returned it and got an m2 mbp and she’s now a convert as well.
TBF at least in Germany the M2 MBP even if it's the 13" version with the touch bar is about 800€ more expensive than the XPS 13 (both with 16 GB RAM and 512GB SSD // 1250€ for the XPS vs 2060€ for the MBP). If it's the 14" MBP it's almost double the price (2400€). So it's not a fair comparision at all in the first place because these 2 Laptops aren't even close in the same price range.
I hated mac's until I got one. It's pretty common for tech people to hate them because they try to compare the paper specs to that of a windows machine- and you just can't. They're optimized so much- build quality is incredible. Touch pad is unrivaled, and windows machines always have terrible speakers for reasons i don't understand.
I had a XPS 15 9550 and it blue screen like crazy for the first 6 months till it finally stable down, but the heat management is horrible. Years later, I gotten a XPS 17 9730, (this year's 2023 model) -- I spent SGD$4900 on it. With a 4070, 32GB RAM and 1TB of SSD. The machine was so much cooler to the touch and it can even game at 1600p high/ultra rather quietly. --- Here come's the catch, the audio stutters 2 weeks into owning it, nevermind -- a few weeks later, it prompt for a BIOS update, and so I did. It stuck at 100% progress bar till the next morning. I called Dell and they told me to bring it down, when I brought it down. They then said to not unplug while it was updating, but what am I suppose to do? Leave it in the wall indefinitely? Dell refuse to refund me and I sold it off with a $900 loss after they fixed it with back and forth emailing for over 50 days.... I sold because I don't want to deal with the driver issues anymore.. Going to switch to a Mac soon
@@kyle-qw5yx I didn't hate macs, but after I testdrove one for a week at work, now I love the hardware and hate the MacOS. It's just... Not for a serious user. It's not for multiple screens. It's not for keyboard only (or mostly :D). Even though the M2 Pro was faster than my normal workstation i9-9900k (like MUCH faster), I was slower to do the work in the end. Just the fact that I cannot put multiple chrome icons on the dock (I use multiple profiles at work - work account, private, and two more for dev). I spent 3 out of the 5 days on installing different apps, like AltTab (yes, you need an app to be able to alt tab between two chrome windows), Rectangle, some better terminal (the default one SUCKS), but there are things that cannot really be "fixed": single dock even with multiple screens, single app menu bar at the top (why?!), the full screen thingy, managing files (where are the apps installed? I need to change a config file!), the click-to-activate-app is infuriating. PLus, I didn't get the "it's silent and cold" - since the default fan curve prioritizes silence over temp, with what I did (software dev with docker, databases, multiple other tools), it didn't work as a LAP-top - it was too hot. And once it got too hot, it was getting quite loud. Yes, it was silent and cooler for longer than my Ryzen laptop, but still - it's not magic, it gets hot and loud. Also, the M2 keyboard felt weird - like I was popping a bubble wrap with every key stroke. The touchpad is really, I have to admit. While I'm at the keyboard, who TF designed the MacOS keyboard shortcuts? cmd + ctrl + alt + 4 to take a screenshot? WTF?
I’m looking at getting a refurbished M1 16”. 16GB RAM, 526GB of storage. I will use it for Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign primarily. Could you give me any insight into how the M1 2021 would perform for me in this capacity? Thank you.
Same here with my M1 MacBook Pro. The performance is unbelievable, the battery is the best out there, speakers and screen are first class. For me the best screen size is the 16 inch over the 14 inch model since portability isn't a thing for me. Still using Ventura and I'm full satisfied with the experience of MacOS. The best laptop I've even used and owned.
I'm no Apple fanboy but the M1/M2 range have been awesome.... I've got the 16" Macbook Pro M2 and despite the fact I didn't even need it (I already had a Lenovo Legion 7 pro 2021), it has been simply glorious and I don't regret it for a second...
Same MacBook pro.. mine has 467 charge ciclus and battery condition is normal and 87% maximum Capacity Strange you have 81% maximum capacity and only 125 cycle count…
When the maximum capacity drops under 80% he will get the battery service message. Temperature, how long you leave the battery charged at 100% or 0% & discharge rate are all factors that influence battery degradation. But considering how little power ARM chips consume, even with a battery service message you can carry on using it and still get a solid 4-5 hours.
8:29 that is what blew my mind as well. Using it from the past 2 months and the only time I have heard the fans were when I ran hardware diagnostics. And I am very heavy user multiple monitors with a dozen of applications open all the time. Big props to apple 👍
Yesterday, I accidentally launched Hogwarts Legacy in the background, and only realised it because I heard the fans running after half an hour or so. Didn't realise any other slowdowns.
I also wanted to get the Pro but got the first M1 Air instead thinking to switch again in half a year or so. However, I really like the form factor now and am not rushing to switch any time soon. These chips and battery lives are mind-boggling.
@@KensleyInnocentI watch so much shows on my 14inch mbpro. The screen is SO good. And I bought a new tv last year too to watch movies and I find myself watching more on my macbook when im alone. Unless you are always out and about with your laptop, get the pro!
I really argue that these first gen max silica MBP and mb air are some of the best laptops ever made. The aluminum unibody, screen quality, keyboard quality, battery life especially under load. Just one of the best experiences and I never had a mac before this. Now it’ll be hard to leave while the line is like this.
I was very glad to hear your video! I have the same M1 MacBook Pro, and have gone thru all of the hype about the updated ones (M2) last year and the M3 MacBook Pros that were recently announced, but I feel they there is no way to justify any MacBook Pro updates!
@@austinlinn2973 No, I won't upgrade at this time. My M1 MacBook is doing everything that I need and is still working great! I just can't see the need for the M4., but it is nice to see all of the "new" stuff!

I was undecided between Air 15 (16GB, 512GB) and M1 Pro 16 refurbed. I ended up with M1 Pro 16 which was even cheaper than the Air 15. Super happy so far. Great deal for a great piece of tech.
The 14” M1 MacBook Pro made me an Apple person. As a photographer, it’s color accurate and crazy powerful. It made me buy an iPhone lol. I’ve basically full on converted.
I have been using the exact same computer for pretty much the same period of time. The computer still feels new after all that time despite using it for work every day. The battery life is still exceptional, it’s still really fast, it’s still cool and quiet, and it still looks and feels great. If you can find a used or refurbished M2 Pro, it’s a great buy. In my experience, the most impressive thing about the battery life is standby time. I have left the computer asleep in my bag over a weekend and when I go to wake it up on Monday morning for work, it has lost AT MOST 1% of the charge.
@@mokomaka141Because I never remember to do that. I take it off the dock in the afternoon, go to a few meetings then head home. I usually just leave the computer in the bag from Friday evening until Monday morning. The instant wake from sleep is much, much faster than turning it off so I can get right to work Monday morning.
@@mokomaka141 why bother when it makes no difference? I never shut down my m1 macbook air either, just takes extra time to reboot. just opening the lid takes half a second and it's ready to go. oh and closing the lid is also faster than shutting down and then closing the lid ^^
I use my 16 inch M1 Pro with M32U monitor, which only outputs 15W via USB-C. It blows my mind that it's able to slowly charge my laptop when docked while using it (screen off).
that’s a very good way of killing your battery, keeping it constantly charging since 15W is nit enough for peak short term power draw, just connect the damn charger.
Upgraded from M1 MacBook Pro 14 to Lenovo Legion Pro 5i with RTX 4070 and I don't regret it a bit. I got MBP mostly just for video editing and I thought it would enable me to edit on the go (Mostly Davinci Resolve Studio and occasionally Adobe Premiere Pro). But in practice, I never really "needed" to edit "on the go". This ability to edit videos at the coffee shop is peddled by RUclipsrs but unless you are a RUclipsr (especially of the type who needs to travel a lot and can't wait until you get to the hotel room to edit/upload videos) this doesn't really matter much in the real world. Now that Intel also added media engine for hardware video encoding/decoding and with Nvidia's RTX cards, video editing has been a breeze. It was also a breeze with MacBook Pro but now I also carry my games with me which is a lot of fun when I'm traveling and stuck at a hotel. Carrying a MacBook just felt boring. The only thing I really miss about it is it's speakers when I don't feel like wearing the headphones. The great battery life everyone talks about didn't really translate for me. I got like 7-8 hours of light use, 5.5 hours of mixed-use, and 2-2.5 hours if I push it hard. Which is fine but these days a lot of AMD laptops also get the same or more battery life on light workloads. So, I don't understand why battery life gets so hyped by these RUclipsrs. And yes, I appreciate how it is quiet and doesn't spin the fans much but it is not a deal-breaker for me. Also, I experienced a lot of lags with it that I don't do with my current laptop. Surprised how little this is talked about. I use a lot of tabs in browsers and that routinely caused me lags. I believe this is due to the quick swap functionality Apple implemented where it kinda uses some SSD storage as RAM on demand and swaps between the RAM. I guess this shouldn't be an issue if you got a 32 or 64 gig model but we know more than 90% get the 16 Gig one. There were way too many times if felt like I was using a cheap walmart laptop because of these cursor-spinning lags when I'm just browing. Luminar Neo and sometimes Adobe Lightroom also caused such lag when dealing with large libraries of photos. I don't experience those lags anymore with my current laptop. You don't hear these very often if you were to just listen to RUclipsrs. Bottom line being, really think what kind of a user you are and what features make an actual difference in how you use/want to use your computer. RUclipsrs review a lot of laptops, because of that naturally they are biased/sensitive towards the differences between laptops. Don't make a purchase decision based on their bullet points. A lot of things are nice to have but may not really add much value to your usecase. There will be plenty of users for whom a MacBook Pro will be a perfect choice but its not a one size fits all and not "superior" to everything else out there. While Apple decided to ride on the M1 success with a lackluster M2 update, there are laptops out there now with much more raw power but it all comes down to how much power you will actually use and what provides you more value.
I picked up a 16" M1 Max 32c 64gb ram 1tb ssd for $2,000 at microcenter "refurbished" a couple weeks ago. Everything in the box looked brand new and it only had 2 battery cycles. Best tech purchase in a while. Plugged in 99% of the time, using Aldente for battery management.
MacOs manages your battery health natively, it stops your MacBook from charging when it is at 80%. My 3 year old M1 MacBook Pro is always plugged and the battery health is 99%
That battery health statistic is wild to me. I also have had a 16" m1 Pro Macbook pro for nearly two years with my usage mainly being on battery power. I have a cycles count nearly double yours (currently at 298 cycles) but with 84% battery health remaining. I wonder if sitting at 100% (or even just 80%) consistently was rougher on your battery compared to my mainly on battery usage.
same as you 16" m1 pro and have 84% got it 2022/1, but battery life honestly suffers like almost 5hours, even though my usage is light to mid some programming and browsers.
Keeping the battery topped up is bad for the battery, it is much worse than simply using the device on battery. Ideally you'd want to keep the charge between 40-60% for the least amount of wear over time, but no one does that so keeping it between 20-80% is the next best thing, but it also helps to go through a cycle once or twice a week... that's at least much better than keeping it charged or at 80%+ all week. What Apple needs to do is give us more control over how the laptop charges, because their optimized charging is shit. There are tools like AlDente where you can set the battery charge to 50% and it's worth using a tool like that when you are plugged in most of the time, but they're not perfect either.
His 81% health with 125 cycles doesn't sound good to me. In my case I have an M1 MacBook Air with 265 cycles and 90% health. I have a program running that prevents it from charging over a certain percentage, so it never charges over 80%. I think that's the best way of preserving the battery health.

I also have a M1 Pro MBP and it's been the best laptop I've ever owned. It replaced a 2015 15" MBP that was also a fantastic machine, but the leap in performance, heat management and battery life were way above what I thought was possible. I use it for photo and video editing along with producing livestreams and I've never encountered an issue. Only reason I'm tempted to upgrade to a new M3 MBP is because the Max chipset supports more than two external displays. Plus the black option looks very nice.
I did on Black week order an M1Pro 16" after looking at 10+ Y-tube videos. Not going for M2 or M3, because M1 will give all I need. It will replace my 2015 MBA which still have an amazing build quality. I will organize 40+ year of negatives and slides, using high quality scanner. Sadly the joy of slide show will go away ( those of you that are 40+ will understand).
I agree. The 16 inch M1 Pro is a beast .. it even better for me after the ventura update . It’s an engineering marvel from Apple. I’ve only had it for a 2 years and I’ve used windows all my life
I have the 2023 M2 Pro MacBook Pro & I love this thing. It's fast I play games on it with no problem & use it for work every day. I'm not switching to no time soon. I'm a Mobile Device manager, IT, and fleet manager & this thing flies in my use case. Yeah, this is overkill for what I do, but when I dock it at home & 3 34" screens are driven by thing sipping on power. You can't use something else. All 3 of my 34" are 3440x1440
I got my M1 Pro on release day and it's never let me down since. I'm pretty anal on my tech as well so mine, like yours, still looks brand new. My keys are showing age but I wouldn't say look worn and I've used mine daily. Not only that but if I'm working on other machines, work laptops, I use it to watch content. I have an M1 Max studio for Audio production but find myself using this half the time anyway. I just plug mine in when needed though, battery. My battery is Normal and I'm at 98% after 2 years. I only charge my iPhone magsafe and just nightly and my 14 Pro Max is at 100% while other seems to be having issue. Thanks for making this for everyone! While I'm sure someone will say something because you are being positive on Apple but if they step back it's a pro and a con right? I mean I hear great things about the M3 that's coming but not sure I need one. Three of my son have 14" pro model (2 M1 & 1 M2) for video or coding work and all have experienced the same great experience. To me the investment is well worth it.
In the past 2 years, I can’t recall the last time i heard my fans spin up, nor do i remember it heating up (M1 Max 14 inch). I had the 13 inch butterfly keyboard intel i5 prior to that and that thing used to get hot frequently. These chips are amazing and will probably last a lot longer than most realize.
The one thing that bugs me about this MacBook is that is looses Usb connections. So you have to constantly reconnect usb devices like the streamdeck and others, because the machine forgot about them after you locked the screen.
use a USB switcher (I put a double-sided adhesive to it under my table, within reach while discreet), I have streamdeck and other peripherals that sometimes need to be reconnected when to my macbook pro.
@@reynold.larizai tried that, works sometimes. But still: a 100$ windows laptop manages to do that. I think after 2 years apple should be able to fix that. Same with the 2nd monitor that sometimes gets no signal after wakeup.
This has to be one of the purchases I’ve made in the past 10 years. Funnily enough one of my worst was buying the 2019 MacBook Pro 16in at the time. Luckily I don’t lose much since I sold it 3 months before the M1 Pro 16in was released that I was still able to get top dollar for that MacBook lol. But Apple absolutely killed it with the new Apple silicon chips.
Been using the 14 MBP for 2 years. It's a great laptop overall but I can't bring myself to like the form factor. Just got myself a 14 inch Samsung Galaxy Book which has more of a pre-Ivy's departure Apple design and am absolutely loving it.
The battery life of m1/m2 is why I think I would finally switch from windows laptops. As much as I prefer windows, intel is just not efficient. amd is slightly better but still, I think next laptop upgrade i need, might be time to switch.
I just picked up a 2021 M1 Pro 16 512 for around $1100. It came with a magic keyboard, a magic mouse and apple care until 2026. Hands down the best investment I have ever made into my productivity. I am actually now considering selling my desktop set up because of of good the laptop is. If you are considering getting a MacBook Pro, the M1 Pro is a really good value proposition right now. Even comparing against the M3promax machines, I can't justify the extra spend even with the performance increase. Everyone seems to really love their M1 machines. I might consider upgrading to the M4pro max when it comes out but that's later down the line. If you are on the fence I would go for it, there are some deals to be had out there for sure.
I have the same model. Bought on 1st month release. My battery have 93% capacity. I’m over 150 cycles. I used Aldente app to limit to 80%. The issue with this learning battery usage its is too conservative. You don’t have a predictable behavior.

Well, I must say that while I am typing the review on the keyboard itself of the MacBook Pro M1, it's been my daily driver ever since I bought it last year. To be honest, it's a beast of a machine. I love it, and there is just nothing that I can complain much about. The only thing that I would complain about is its integration with AirPods. Despite how Apple tends to make their hardware by using outdated Bluetooth standards, I got the latest AirPods Pro 2nd Gen, but still, I feel a lot of difficulties, especially when I have to do some sort of VoIP call over my MacBook. The voice sounds robotic. I'm not sure whether it's like the integration or the hardware itself that's in the airport or the Mac. That's a bottleneck, but yeah. It seems like Mac's Bluetooth bandwidth can't handle too many devices at once, especially with airpods (output and input at the same time).

Just remember with refurb spec. Max warranty is 1 year. For normal purchase you can extend to 3 years. For a person like me who doesn’t see himself changing this laptop in the next 3 years. That makes a huge difference when choosing which one to purchase. This refurb warranty applies to us here in South Africa. Not sure if the US or X place is any different. Just my two cents
Your vocal delivery and thoughtful execution on this video could be a tutorial for how it should be done. Thank You. I watched your video because I have been hoping I am making the right decision and it helped convince me that I am. Thanks Again
For professionals in the video/photo editing business or front-end website development, it is definitely still worth it. Only the M3 might be worth the change.
Nah I say nothing is worth the update until the thing dies out. It’s already doing everything it does best so well I can hardly see anything worth spending $3k to replace

81% max capacity after 125 cycles sounds low. My M1 Pro is currently sitting at 87% max capacity after 441 charge cycles. What could cause this difference?
Heat is usually the main culprit. If I do anything heavy, I use Mac Fan Control to open up the fans before the task. That way I do not rely on Apple's thermal management. This means the laptop remains cool. Once done, revert fans back to normal. I have only a 45-cycle count but still at 100%. I also do not charge over 87% to protect the battery as 80-100% is where most degradation of the battery occurs.

Did you get any more of those random reboot errors? I have the same model (2021 M1Pro 16) and it did the same thing until it eventually died and needed a new logic board. When I would wake it from sleep, it would reboot to a blank screen and take a min or two (after several power key presses) to return to the OS login screen.
I have the base model 14in M1 Pro. Happiest I’ve ever been with a laptop long term. The instant-on and consistency in battery life is great. Battery life itself is good, not great, but the consistency makes up for that. Performance is still excellent for what I do, and hey, it even runs Baldur’s Gate 3 fairly well. Perfect, no, I’m not a huge fan of the keyboard layout. I don’t understand why apple can’t put an actual delete key on the damn keyboard, why they force us to do shift-backspace for that functionality. I’m also not a huge fan of the keyboard itself, I much preferred the keyboard on my old Thinkpad.
Just picked up the 2021 M1 Pro 1TB w/16GB RAM for $1400. If it's anything like my 2015 MBP that has been going strong for 8+ years then I'll be thrilled.

When he bought that machine, it was the first Pro using Apple Silicon, a giant gamble and leap by Apple that shook Intel to its core. It is very useful to tell people who maybe doubters that after two years, it still performs like a dream and show potential buyers that Apple has changed the game.
I've been using the base m1 Air for a while now and it's almost everything I need. Even the base M1 chip chews through video editing , photo editing and music production without a hitch. This chip is 3 years old now and it certainly doesn't feel like it. Amd and intel have newer chips now but the m1 Air is still very competitive when compared to any laptop in its price range.
Great to hear, which DAW for music and how many vsts and browser tabs can be open simultaniously?? Really not sure if to just go for this, say over the next 3 years or so or the M1 pro 16 inch, 1tb, 16gigs ram. Its twice the price but not sure itll last twice as long? Question is if the base model will and not overheat or throttle non stop in ableton?? Cheers
i also have the 14" base m1 pro. It is the best tech purchase I ever had, it has a better battery life than my 14 pro. I have a gaming laptop and I know that battery for windows laptop are not great, but for gaming, windows is better, but for work and creative side, go for the macbook. Imagine editing a video in premiere, I can edit for 6 hrs without plugging in!. like my goodness, for web development feels like forever
I think the Apple Silicon laptops are perfect for RUclipsrs and people doing non-Windows stuff. I'm primarily in the corporate IT world where X86 is still king. So, Apple hardware is less than ideal in that setting. Consequently, I rock both a MacBook Pro and a Surface Pro 9. Each is used for what it does best.
I have broken 2 screens by having something in the way of the laptop closing. Apple Store charged $922.00 the first time, so the second time I learned how to change the screen myself, still $550.00. Over all I'm very happy with the computer but it would be better to have the screen more durable

I still use my 2012 mbp in 2023. Had upgraded it to 12 gb ram and a 480 ssd. It still holds but I will be upgrading to an m1 or a m2. Will still hold on to the last mbp which apple allowed to upgrade.

Remember when he ignored the M1 Macbooks for the better part of a year, all the while recommending terrible Dell options to viewers?
I remember
These dudes fell off a long time ago.

That's like saying: "it's amazing Windows 11 runs so well on 11th gen Tiger Lake CPUs". Like yeah, of course it does, lmao.
@@thorlusthat’s too bad. In the US they are about the same price so the comparison is pretty a good one from our perspective.
WTF?

Same here with my M1 MacBook Pro. The performance is unbelievable, the battery is the best out there, speakers and screen are first class. For me the best screen size is the 16 inch over the 14 inch model since portability isn't a thing for me. Still using Ventura and I'm full satisfied with the experience of MacOS. I'm no Apple fanboy but the M1/M2 range have been awesome.... I've got the 16" Macbook Pro M2 and despite the fact I didn't even need it (I already had a Lenovo Legion 7 pro 2021), it has been simply glorious and I don't regret it for a second...
Same MacBook pro.. mine has 467 charge ciclus and battery condition is normal and 87% maximum Capacity
Strange you have 81% maximum capacity and only 125 cycle count…
When the maximum capacity drops under 80% he will get the battery service message. Temperature, how long you leave the battery charged at 100% or 0% & discharge rate are all factors that influence battery degradation. But considering how little power ARM chips consume, even with a battery service message you can carry on using it and still get a solid 4-5 hours.
i gues now i know what is the trick to make people buy new macbooks

It opens at exactly where you left it, all windows open as they were, and with zero lag time.
@@mokomaka141Because I never remember to do that. I take it off the dock in the afternoon, go to a few meetings then head home.

MacOs manages your battery health natively, it stops your MacBook from charging when it is at 80%. My 3 year old M1 MacBook Pro is always plugged and the battery health is 99%
Just bought a “premium renewed” M1 Pro 16 inch off Amazon to play around with. This’ll be my first MacOS computer.

Three of my son have 14" pro model (2 M1 & 1 M2) for video or coding work and all have experienced the same great experience. To me the investment is well worth it.
In the past 2 years, I can’t recall the last time i heard my fans spin up, nor do i remember it heating up (M1 Max 14 inch). I had the 13 inch butterfly keyboard intel i5 prior to that and that thing used to get hot frequently. These chips are amazing and will probably last a lot longer than most realize.

How have you managed to get to 81% maximum battery capacity with only 125 cycles on it?
It's the gold standard for macbooks. Literally does everything I throw at it.
The one thing that bugs me about this MacBook is that is looses Usb connections. So you have to constantly reconnect usb devices like the streamdeck and others, because the machine forgot about them after you locked the screen.
I thought I was the only one who experiences this.

Its speakers are awesome I never listen to quality speakers from a laptop. Actually you don't need a subwoofer if you are watching in laptop.
With the recent release of the M3 series you can now snag an M1 model at a cheaper price.
Amazing review! I have been having my M1 Pro MBP 16 for two years, and this is a killer in my workflow. The only issue I've encountered is the keyboard. It wore a little bit, and is so hard to keep them clean. Do you guys know what will be the best way to clean it up?
I have 2 year old M1 Max 16". My battery health is 98%, and it has 47 cycles.
I disabled optimized battery charging, and I an using Aldente to stop charging around 80-85%, since I am often connected to charger. I charge it to 100% from time to time.

Ive never felt a need to upgrade my m1 pro .... I can edit videos, I have a workstation PC for the chunky task, so like ... why should I spent thousands on a m4 pro. They made the m1 pro too good lol
I already made that decision, and I am soooooooooo happy! Thank you, I can't believe what an amazing machine it is.
My local Microcenter has the base M1 Pro 16-inch for 1199. Pretty crazy given how awesome these computers still are and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
Not really here for Mac hardware but it’s cool you guys cover variety
Im at 90 cycles and 100% capacity still. That is crazy how much yours has gone down.
Am a fullsatck dev on both web and mobile, I run multiple project with more than 2 iOS simulator open along side diff running rest api and debug session and my base 14 inch 16gb ram handles it like noting... it's the best purchase I have ever made... I don't even think I will be getting the m3, I intend to use this m1 for other 2 - 3 years
I have the exact same spec as you and I love this thing so much. It’s been super reliable and I even managed to get it only for $1700.
I bought a M1 pro recently in Sept of 2023, i got it for a good deal $2800 i got it for $1920 dollars in India it was few last pieces available only 1 in 50km radius of space grey left, i thought to get the m2 15" air but then relised that the screen speaker etc are way better in the Pro i wanted it for my Undergrad Eng and so far i am 2ay more than satisfied it never lets me down. Great Purchase Great Laptop and Windows 11 runs buttery smooth using parallels so no compatibility issue yet
Is it okay to place a macbook case?
Nice video! I wanted to ask everybody a question regarding macos in general. I've bought my first MacBook air m1 recently and everything works fine but sometimes animations like when scrolling or resizing apps seems choppy. What have been your experience with macos animations in general? Do they drop fps in everybody?
I'm still using it😇 and still recommending this particular tech piece for those who asking me for which macbook to buy😊
would you recommend getting this over the m2 air base model?
As a software engineer I could not stand the dell xps, we returned it and got an m2 pro and I’m so happy
Sadly I dropped mine and got a dent in the corner but it still works great
Just remember with refurb spec.
Thank You. I just pulled the trigger on the 2021 14" Mac Book Pro with the Max chip I do both Video and Music editing but until now hav been using older MacBook Air (early 2014) and my mac mini. I considered whether to go in the direction of the Mac Studio or the MacBook Air or Pro but the ability to be portable was the deciding factor. I watched your video because I have been hoping I am making the right decision and it helped convince me that I am. Thanks Again
what about nand/ssd issue being reported by louis rossmann ?
For professionals in the video/photo editing business or front-end website development, it is definitely still worth it. Only the M3 might be worth the change.
Nah I say nothing is worth the update until the thing dies out. It’s already doing everything it does best so well I can hardly see anything worth spending $3k to replace
@@sentryion3106 Depends. If you are fighting for a promotion and your competitors at work are all working with more advance tech in 3 years, then it matters. For small business owners or freelance workers, no need to change for the next 10 years.
When my PC could no longer be up dated I went Mac Pro. Ten years and going strong. Never been in the shop. It was yearly with my pc.
I was just looking at this on Amazon renewed for $1300. Thanks for this!
Shall I charge with type c cable ?
81% max capacity after 125 cycles sounds low. My M1 Pro is currently sitting at 87% max capacity after 441 charge cycles. What could cause this difference?
Heat is usually the main culprit. If I do anything heavy, I use Mac Fan Control to open up the fans before the task. That way I do not rely on Apple's thermal management. This means the laptop remains cool. Once done, revert fans back to normal. I have only a 45-cycle count but still at 100%. I also do not charge over 87% to protect the battery as 80-100% is where most degradation of the battery occurs.

picked one up for 1k. my first macbook . cant wait
Between the M1 Pro 16" and the Pro M3 14" on 2023, is it worth getting the newest? or would the M1 be enough for some more years? Looking forward to upgrade from my old 2013 MBA. Thanks
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 595
Condition: Normal
Maximum Capacity: 84%
This is from my system report.
I am using a 14 Macbook pro with M1 pro
Thank you for this detailed explanation. You’ve aided my choice of Mac to purchase.
Fantastic video and information. Thank you!
Btw, what mic are you using, and where is it? The sound quality is super clear.
the best softwre I can't live without on a mac is alfred. It's so much better than the default spotlight.
What are the configuration of the MAC
Just picked up the 2021 M1 Pro 1TB w/16GB RAM for $1400. If it's anything like my 2015 MBP that has been going strong for 8+ years then I'll be thrilled.
I dont understand why highlighting the performance after 2 years. I have a legion 7 (2021), and it also works perfect. Not to mention i can add memory and ssd anytime i want. Maybe this analisys should be made after 5 years of use…
Please compare this MacBook's keyboard with MacBook Pro 2012 15 Inch's one
I wish this comparison took place against the M3 Pro chip, would be great if you guys could post a quick comparing them over the M2 Pro.
most likely the m3 pro is better
Hello sir, I'm planning to buy this MBP M1 Pro chip for Graphic design and video editing, 16GB RAM 512GB SSD, is it worth buying in 2024?
