    The first time I burned my eyes was at 20-ish when I was holding ductwork for my boss to weld. I really wanted to learn the trade, so I watch carefully everything he was doing. Unfortunately, he wasn't very good at letting me know when he was about to actually touch the stick to the job, so I got flashed a LOT. It didn't really bother me until about an hour before quitting time when I started having to blink a lot. By the time quitting time rolled around, the regular light of the day felt like spikes directly into my eyes. Luckily, my boss noticed and intercepted me on my way out before I could get on my *motorcycle* to go home! I am so thankful he drove me home that day because about 5 minutes later I couldn't keep my eyes open at all.

      Rough start to a welding career! It's incredible how quickly and intensely those UV rays can affect your eyes. Lucky for you, your boss stepped in when he did. A good reminder of how important safety gear is in that environment.

    This should definitely be a series. I bet it could take off and draw a lot of attention to the channel and the school in turn. Id love to learn to weld, im 37 though with a disability. Dont know who would bother hiring me. I have thought about trying to find a shop and seeing if I could "intern" there just to learn for myself. I really want to know the skill. Anyways, loved the video.

      That's awesome to hear! Welding is a fantastic skill to have, and age or disability shouldn't hold anyone back. An internship is a great way to get started. Many shops are open to teaching, and there are also community colleges and vocational schools that offer welding courses.
      Don't give up on your dream!

    at least for the past 30 years if you've worn prescription glasses all the lenses have had 100% UV protection... had Lasik in my 30s ... 1st flash burn to my eyes happened a year later ...

      @WesternWeldingAcademy  Месяц назад +1

      UV protection doesn't guarantee safety from welding flashes.
