I appreciate breaking this down. Instead of just saying like every other goober on RUclips. “Hey be a welder, and make 250k a year right outta school!!”
The fact that I went back to school to do welding is probably the best decision. I've made ever for me and my family. I start my second semester. I watch your videos constantly they're always helpful
My business made 136k this year so roughly about 75k profit. That’s at 21 years old first year in business. I took a couple months off this year due to not wanting to work in the summer.
Are you retired? We have plenty of men and women at the school who have worked in different fields before coming to Western Welding Academy. Thanks for the support💪🏻🇺🇸!
This was very helpful for me. The few people I've told I'm in welding school keep asking me where I'm going to work. There are so many options, that I'm just not sure where I'll end up yet. This video helped me see some possibilities though!
First off, I just want to say I love your content. I just bought myself a Lincoln AC 225 240V stick welder. I bought some of the basic tools and equipment: welding jacket, chip hammer, gloves, helmet, magnets, rods, etc. I have a few questions to ask: What pants would you recommend for someone to wear while they are welding? What electrodes would you recommend I use? Is there anything else you would recommend I would need to get started in this field? Thanks for the help in advance
Ran millions of 7018 on bridges for 16yrs. I’m 36 now. Reconstructed shoulder two years ago. Two ruptured discs in my lower back now, and have been out for 6 months, with another six ahead. Don’t burn your life away on the road, and your body.
i see many welders in my area run Toyota tundra's and i can understand why, they are not diesel but they are really reliable and wont break down if you do simple fluid changes and have a big V8 for torque to haul all their equipment but at the end of the day it comes to preference
@@nightinthewhite3817 Nope. I got my welding certificate, which took me 2 years to achieve. I'm proficient in MIG, FCAW, TIG, and SMAC processes. Passed all the weld tests and the employer's weld test. $12/hr to start. It's not worth it. I like my door greeter job better. It's really easy work, a better deal.
A lot of good info buddy I’ve chased that dollar pipe welding for 35 years I gave it up 5 years ago and now I contract my rig out and I get by pretty good because of the location I’m in but it’s a lot of misinformation out there and you touched on pretty much everything. Some cars we welded would be carrying liquid match etc or the tank skins could be a high oressure car that carried LPG etc. Wiah i neber wouldve left the railroad as welder for the compnay i was wirh
Search your local pipefitters union and search for their wages and they will have a chart with wages from 1st year apprentice to topped out. Unions will usually pay for your benefits and a pension as well
I am wanting set up a rig to go out on my own. If the Lincoln machines are DC only, how are you powering your tools? Do you have to carry an AC generator as well?
Seriously a dive crew has maybe one guy who can weld underwater and maybe a couple more who can do top side. Diver school is as much as welding schools but you will travel more and make more money and have more fun. The average welder is going to be in a shop making $20 to $25 an hour. But yeah there’s good money in the field but there’s a bunch of welding schools flowing the market with kids that can’t take it and don’t make it.

I got certified level 4 welding at a trade school, and all the jobs I sign to low ball me. I ask for $18/hour and they offer me $16. How am I supposed to advocate for myself when my words are good and have certification but it's still not enough? Do I just tough it out for a half a year and get some experience and suck it up? Do I just keep searching? Should I walk into an interview very stern and highball myself? I'm not asking for a job to fall in my lap, but I thought certification was supposed to get my foot in the door?
I get the feeling that this school doesn't teach FCAW 232 structural wire at all. Nobody runs stick on structural jobs anymore. It's the only wire that can be used in the field and it's the hardest certificates to obtain that I have.
