Thanks for sharing. Would love to see how much the heat pump is using KWH input, and then how much heat output. I suppose with 280 ish more kwh of use this year, some of which I think you mentioned in a previous video were for the car charging, the figures will look different. When I have my installation done, I'll have the Open Energy Monitoring kit fitted. All told though, giving what you are getting from your electricity usage, car and heat pump, it looks a very sound investment. Look forward to your solar install and battery videos.

Thanks Mark, yes the heat pump is only heating the water for about 30mins between 2030hr and 2100hrs on peak and also an hr off peak around 0430am. I will check the input on the MMI but last time it was not the same as the phone app which was more confusing. Please let me know more about the monitoring kit as l would love one too. I also hear OE are developing one as well to be on their App which will be great too. The Solar decision is one l am still going through in my head and getting more muddled in the detail.

From the last seven years of personal experience, Solar PV, with battery storage, is worth having, when your transport and heating needs are already electrified.

You forgot that with gas you would have another standing charge to pay. Apart from that good videos mate keep it up.

well spotted mate, thank you, yes there is a SD charge as well. I think though, gas would still have been slightly lower. Winter is the exciting time that I can wait although nervours too

Have you driven more this year compared to last (e.g. two cars)? Has your heat pump worked more that the gas boiler because it was a wet May? How does your heat pump use compare to the 587kWh gas use last year?

The honest answer is don't know. I think those variations are difficult to make as they are too many I.e. I could have been on annual leave, from work, could have WFH more, could have visited a relation over a weekend etc. It then becomes not much of a comparison but like using month on month comparisons. The annual one will be more representative of usage although l WFH less this year than last and went away for 3 weeks last year, which l am not doing this year.

What flow temperature were you running the gas boiler at vs heat pump?

I have never changed the flow temp for the gas boiler, didnt know I could do that either. It was just as installed when we moved in, in 2017

@letsgoelectriclge1320 Indeed, was probably set to 60-70 degrees. We ran our gas boiler last winter on 45 degrees to simulate a heat pump and it worked fine and used a load less gas. Hence why I was asking to see what the cost difference could have been...
