It's refreshing and reassuring to hear someone doesn't drink because they just don't like it or feel the need to do it in order to socialize. I never drink (I also think it tastes gross and logically there are more reasons not to do it than to do it, so I don't). However, I feel like people think it's weird in social situations that I don't. Overall, great interview and appreciate his honesty.
I was glad to see Alex repping healthy eating on Free Solo. A great source of blood sugar info is Dr Neal Barnard. Fat is the issue on diabetes. Fruit is the most natural food for us.
Imho too much fruit is a bit rough on the organs (liver & pancreas) and makes it impossible to eat anything else. I used to watch a lot of fruitarian athletes like Doug Graham and was intrigued, but they almost all fall away from it and some end up with really poor health. You just can't get enough fresh fruit and it paints you into a corner where you can't eat anything else or you have a hyperglycemic event. Humans have adaptations to eating cooked starches (high salivary and pancreatic amylase, larger back teeth, etc.) that you don't see in other primates. Just so much easier to eat rice, beans, potatoes, etc. with moderate amounts of fruit and "green" vegetables, and it's a bit more adaptive to small amounts of added fats or even an occasional animal product without causing problems. I personally eat zero meat but will eat a couple eggs maybe once a month, and probably some incidental dairy or eggs in stuff like pasta or baked goods.
@@csn583 we have evolved on fruit for millions of years before we migrated out of the tropics. All fruit is good for us, granted quality fruit is hard to come by these days, esp. In winter
@@IronJohn755 exactly, quality fruit is hard to come by. Yes, including starches is the only way to sustain it. Starches are very similar to fruit in their macros.
I wouldn't say it's enormously performance enhancing, it's just a bit of a stimulant. Creatine does a lot more for you. I'd say steroids are enormously performance enhancing.
As someone with diverse farming experience, an avid diet experimenter and an environmental studies degree I’m a firm believer that locally raised and slaughtered rotationally grazed grass fed cattle is the single most planet and people friendly food. Food for thought 😉
Is it really sustainable to feed the planet with that method though? Don't you need vast grazing lands which they're already destroying wildlands and forests at an alarming rate for?
He literally said he’s been a vegetarian for 15 years. Eats meat because he does travel quite a bit and there can be restraints and so he eats what’s available. He Has done so many charities minimising the environmental damage impact meanwhile you’re on RUclips thinking you have some kind of a moral high ground. I’m a vegan by choice and vegetarian since birth but jeez you guys are weird!!!

I love how chill he is about food!

But a Alex points out here, not all fruit is equal. (Obviously not processed, but even fresh.) Strawberries >> grapes, just on a sugar basis.

The interesting one is caffeine, given its enormous performance-enhancing qualities. It’s basically the one ‘free’ (allowed) PE drug for athletes.

Great video
Thanks!
Alex, just eat some almonds with your grapes and your sugar level will be fine

Grass fed is worst for the climate, and the animals still die.
@@OmegaPointZen You are categorically wrong.
Please don’t call it „Free solo Food“
Hey Phil, why don’t you like the title?
Disappointing to hear that you eat meat. 🙁🙁🙁

Why wouldn’t you just post the entire interview? Breaking up one interview into a bunch of videos is aggravating.
