    I know it's almost unheard of in the US, but not everyone craves media attention and constant self-promotion (going to avoid the more vulgar terminology here). Others need her for clicks and views, not the other way around. The only time she really used her status was to shift focus to an issue that should matter to others >> REDS. Yet nothing really changed, so... Nothing left to prove to anyone.

    Cheering for Jenya as Russian too. Still, find it very sad that also the Olympics are so politics dependent. Normal people in any country mustn't be punished for what the rich elite power of this world is doing... Very sad. Still cheering for all Russian speaking athletes!!

    The comments about the combined event are spot on - Janja's been knocked off the #1 spot in a few individual events but the chances of Ai or Oriane winning a combined event are pretty slim - I feel like the only competitor who might give Janja a run for her money isn't Natalia............it's Brooke.

      Dunno about that all due respect. Whose WC medal count highe? And by more thsn a couple just saying. Team USA & JPN four climbers legit chance for podium but only two spots. And I'd add 4-5 others - at least - real shot standing on either side next to we know who. Hehe i'm already stressed out - this is a STRONG field vying for glory. G/L to all the women.

    I don't think Alex in his 20s could've been in the elite level in the comps anyway. His hardest climb is 9a. That was his mid 30s though so i could be wrong. But the Olympic climbers are incredibly strong and athletic and Alex seems more mentally strong than a pure athlete to me.

  • @spacebrainer

    Ai Mori could maybe beat Janja in lead but you forgot to mention the score for boulder and lead is combined. Sorry but Ai is not that good in boulder from what I've seen so the chances she takes gold in this combined event are very slim.

    • @michaelmccluskey2044
      @michaelmccluskey2044 3 часа назад

      The scoring could mean that boulder doesn't matter that much. It's stupid system, but the way it's designed, if the boulder round is super hard, then it becomes largely a lead comp (and vice versa). Besides, AI Mori is a really good boulderer. If the jumpy coordination boulder is too hard or too easy, then she can compete.

    Alex been really enjoying these podcasts over the last year hope you keep the channel going. That pic of Fitz over your shoulder is mega. Good that climbing is in the olympics and hope all the guys entering have fun, but i've gotta admit i'd be more psyched if they mixed it up and instead of the venue they build at Bouget went out to the mountains. I know it would be a break from typical competition settings but there is so many epic routes/boulders in france i think they have missed the boat think they could have done something really unique. Conversations like this is one of the reasons why the athletes at the apex experience burnout and anxiety... I get it's 'fun' to throw names and predictions, but keep in mind they're humans too.. Imagine people have comparative conversations about you, wouldn't feel too great.. Makes you wonder why Janja keeps such a low profile despite being one of the biggest names in competition climbing.

  • @gottadomor7438

    Barring injury, Garnbret's odds on for top podium spot easy. Maybe Mori can improve enough on the boulders so the rope wall gives her chance to upset but that a longshot. However, she might not even make finals if the boulder semi goes bad. A battle for silver & bronze imho & i'd say 5-6 or even 7-8 have a real chance for them. Looking forward to this for sure.

      It's going to be intense - pressure packed - b/c so many women climbers so fun to cheer for, & absolutely brutal only two other podium places available. I think I'll feel worse for 4th 5th 6th place finishers than I will good for the 2 other medalists.

Going to miss a bunch aren't even there - Stasa Gejo, Jain Kim, Futaba Ito (who finished higher in the OQS than 6 who are in Paris, froze out b/c only 2 spots per country, (which i think unfair but ... So I don't really want indoor gyms to just be a training place for something I can do at most once a year. I'd rather have some fun and I'm not mad if people start to create new challenges that wouldn't be typically found outdoors because that's part of the unique strength of not being relient on only what nature produced

    He misrepresented the average ages of the top competitors quite a bit. Taking an average over a couple of years, Ondra and Schubert are by far the best male lead climbers and both in their 30s. Tomoa is probably still the top male boulderer and he's in his late 20s. Janja always wins boulder and usually wins lead, and she's 25. Until recently, the number 2 boulderer and number 2 lead climber in womens were also not super young. Yes, there is quite a bit of young talent coming through at the moment, but this isn't the first time this has happened (Janja has been winning since she was 16, and many other top climbers also went straight to the top as teenagers and then stayed there into their late 20s or early 30s). There's no reason to think the top comp climbers will keep getting younger.

    Alex, you are my favourite commentator, but I have a very petty complaint here... Speed climbing wall is not 100m tall, but 15m tall. So sprinting is still faster discipline than speed climbing, because how fast you are is determined by your speed, which is a ratio of the distance you pass and the time you do it in. So speed of Sam Watson would be 3.09 m/s (15m divided by 4.85 s) and Usain Bolt speed would be 10.44 m/s (100m/9.58s).

      If you're going by human speed, luge and skeleton both go over 36 m/s. I think those are the fastest.

    I've watched Alex climb free solo, I'm not a climber never have been but Alex brought me to watching people climb it's a awesome sport and sometimes life dedication, and I think people who risk their lives for a passion are special humans who keep the rest of us in awe, but also inspire other people in their every day lives, if they can do that I can do my bit in my life, I call it positive mental attitude so I applaud good positive people, anyone going through a tough time in their lives watch these people climb it's shows you with determination there is always a route to the summit
