This worked for me. Also figured out a way to speed it up... I already had a copy of the 9.00 FW, so downloading it again seemed pointless. I wasn't sure if the PKG would be looking for it in the root of the USB drive or in \PS4\UPDATE as per usual. So I just had a copy in both places. When I was prompted whether or not to download it or just go, choosing to just go was successful. I successfully updated my 7.02 no BD PS4 to 9.00! Thank you for all your work, MODDED WARFARE.
@@fendertroylibunao2153 GoldHEN is a 9.00 thing, so no, you cannot use it to upgrade to 9.00. Mine was on 7.02, which uses a JB that only works 10% of the time. So expect it to fail, but that failure doesn't cause any damage so you can just try it again until it works.
My PS4 wasn't jail broken and I was on 4.74 and I got mine to update through an existing exploit that I had found. So I'm hoping there's the same in the future for 8.xx because I can't get the other one I have to update.
Just so everybody knows the actual arrow does not come from a broken Blu-ray drive it comes from the main chip on the board that handles the disk drive it’s locked to the console and when it breaks you can’t replace it and until now PS4s in that condition were considered bricked. I’ve had two of those come across my bench in the past year so they are rare but this does still happen. I’m just glad someone finally made a noBD method to get around that so people can at least update firmware again.

Yeah me to picked up a ps4 11XX with do dvd drive or HDD, when I put a HDD in it’s showing it’s on 9.00 So frustrating. Wish there was a way to initialize a disk in another PS4 but unfortunately looks like I’m stuck.

I'm on 9.00, I planned to upgrade the HDD to SSD but after inserting cloned/clean SSD to PS4 it prompts to initialize the PS4, then to software update, then it'll end up in SU-42118-6, which is nobd error. Any solution for this yet? In the event that this existing HDD fails, how do I upgrade/swap to an SSD or any other HDD without BD?

So it put you in safeboot right? Just reinstall your current firmware version (6.72) and then do the update method. I hope you have a backup of your saves.

If it says no memory I found a fix just continue pressing the ok button and clear web history and delete caches repeatedly everytime it brings that error eventually it will work

Does anyone know if it's safe to factory reset a second hand console before doing the jailbreak for the first time? I'm getting a 8.03 FW console soon and wanted to factory reset it before doing the whole update to 9.00 etc, without it trying to force some kind of update on me.
I've had two 2nd hand consoles that managed to download 9.51 before I could turn off the auto-download updates options. If that happens to you, you just have to make sure you delete the downloaded update files before you do anything else. Best to just not hook up to the internet until you have the necessary options turned off anyways.

This method can't be used on console with corrupted hdd, can't be done via safe mode.

This won’t work on the early PS4’s where the daughter board that sits on the disc drive is gone.
