Great video, it helped tremendously in taking on this project - I did use my existing wiring, I made sure that I wired the two wire side on the garage door to the transmitter and the single wire side on the garage door to the receiver. Then I simply wired the single wire from the old opener into location 1 and 2 in the opener housing and it all worked.

in my opinion your replaced one of the best garage door systems (liftmaster) with the worse garage door opener avail , Genie!!! i hope its still working for you and wish you many years luck with it . love your dog
about to change mine tomorrow morning and I'm wondering if I can do it with the original cables instead of using the new wires - they're in the wall and ceiling so I really don't feel like taping/tying and pulling through or trying to drop it down from the attic
so the BLD directions completely tell you the WRONG wiring FUCK ME I spent hours trying to figure out why the light wouldn't come on the push button and then when I looked at the actual documents it showed to put the wires in 3 and 4 not 1 and 2 like the BLD app told me. GODDAMN IT Still can't get the fucking sensors to pick up - even when I wire directly to the unit on a short wire only one light comes on so I have no fucking clue why it's so hard to get the wires to connect in the terminal
How does the belt turnbuckle engage into the carriage once everything is installed and mounted? At 2:42, it is still not engaged and I assume it still isn't after you bolt the rail end to the wall and hang the motor from the ceiling. Clearly, if the turnbuckle is outside the carriage, the door won't move even if the belt does. Once inserted onto the motor shaft, the belt cannot be moved manually so you can't really slide the turnbuckle in that way (at least I couldn't). Did you partly open the door, manually, until the carriage moved over the turnbuckle, engage it, then start programming the opener controls from that position? Thanks!
At 2:13 there is a black sleeve I fed the line through. This is what engages the door and the belt. It's also what can disengage the two if you pull the rope hanging from it. Hope that answers your question!
@@kove Thanks so much for the reply, really appreciate the help. Actually, my question was a little different: You do feed the turnbuckle through the carriage sleeve (and connect the two ends of the belt), but from the video it seems that by the time you hoist the motor up and do the install of the rail to the wall, all the way to the moment when you connect the carriage to the door, the turnbuckle is not lodged inside the carriage sleeve. It's down the rail. How does it travel to the carriage sleeve? Did you move the belt to make the turnbuckle travel to the carriage, somehow? Did you lift the door manually first? Incidentally, this is one step which is totally missing in the instructions.
@@fd7231 Ah! Yes, you hit hit the button to move the belt and it will find it's way to the sleeve eventually and lock itself in. You then do need to set the stopping point of travel manually. I don't recall the process for that, and wish I included it in the video as others have asked about that.
@@kove Thanks so much!! That's invaluable information! It's the one little step skipped in the instruction manual fron Genie. I was about to do the same as you wrote: it's very helpful to know that's indeed the correct technique that works. Thanks again!
Great video. Deciding if I want to change out my chain drive opener. Nothing js wrong with it but the master bedroom is right above the garage. Wondering if it'll make a big enough difference. Also, what is the distance from the wall to the opener? I definitely don't want to have to move my current support.
Very Informative video! Now that is has been a year later how has this been keeping up? Since there is so much work involved and buying this for a high price tag I would like to assume this will last for years to come lol thanks

about to change mine tomorrow morning and I'm wondering if I can do it with the original cables instead of using the new wires - they're in the wall and ceiling so I really don't feel like taping/tying and pulling through or trying to drop it down from the attic
so the BLD directions completely tell you the WRONG wiring FUCK ME I spent hours trying to figure out why the light wouldn't come on the push button and then when I looked at the actual documents it showed to put the wires in 3 and 4 not 1 and 2 like the BLD app told me. GODDAMN IT
Still can't get the fucking sensors to pick up - even when I wire directly to the unit on a short wire only one light comes on so I have no fucking clue why it's so hard to get the wires to connect in the terminal
Sorry to here ROB! Have you figured it out?
Great video thanks 👏👏👏👏👏👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice! I love my smart garage door opener.
I wish I purchased years ago.
Slick setup.
I wish i had done it years ago!
Well done
Thanks aki!
Nice lawn
Thanks 👍
No fair u had a helper!!!
haha, a great one!
Another good one Koven 👍🏼
Thanks!
Great video.
Thanks Eric!
What’s the fix for the belt not engaging with the carrier itself? It just slides through and the door does not move.
Did you make sure the level (with hand rope attached) isn't disengaged?
Great video. Deciding if I want to change out my chain drive opener. Nothing js wrong with it but the master bedroom is right above the garage. Wondering if it'll make a big enough difference. Also, what is the distance from the wall to the opener? I definitely don't want to have to move my current support.
Without doubt worth the upgrade to belt, so much quieter and pleasant. Mine is about 9' from the front of the motor unit to the garage door.
good job !!
Thank you very much!
Very Informative video! Now that is has been a year later how has this been keeping up? Since there is so much work involved and buying this for a high price tag I would like to assume this will last for years to come lol thanks
Working like a charm! App works well too.
Outstanding ! Did you get the one with the battery backup. Or is that a waste of money.
I didn't, figure I could always open by hand if I really needed it.
Great video, go tarheels!
Thanks Scott!
@@kove can you tell me if that garage door opener came with the bracket it hangs on or do you have to buy and install that separately? Thanks
@@scottworley1479 he had to buy that separately. In my case, I reused what was already there.
@@kove ok that's what I thought. Thanks
Hey! What are the gray bars called that you mounted the opener to as you were leveling? It's looks like the pi symbol
Hey naija_luv, what is the time mark in the video I can see them?
@@kove 4:17
@@daquiri23 you described it perfectly, can't believe I didn't know Right off the bat! Anyway that is punched angle iron. Best to buy in a garage door opener mount kit, you could pick them up at any hardware store.
@@kove no worries ☺ I will be getting the garage door kit from Lowe's or HD! Thank you so much!
Well done!
Thanks Tommy!
