They should make a retired button where they go into an inactive list so it doesn't clog the active character list. A rebirth button could be cool too, where it resets the lvl back to 1 and you can have a name change or something.

I know someone that doesn't keep more than a couple at a time, he levels to max, gears it out, then deletes it. His reasoning is that he can just un delete them if he wants to. It doesn't make sense.
I've never deleted a capped level toon because I have never had more than like 5 capped level toons at a time. I just have a bunch of crappy medium level alts across different servers. I'm an altaholic who is also a collector unfortunately. I don't delete shit. I've got a ridiculous amount of stuff in my bank because Blizz won't let you put anything sniffing the word unique into your void storage which means that every single freaking cool trinket that summons a cool thing has to sit in the bank, not void bank. If Blizz would let you put "unique" stuff in the void bank, then it would be better.
I can't do purges. Just not me. I made a panda DK just for the hell of it and he still sits there, doing nothing.

Yes, even though I don't enjoy pexing and playing alts anymore, this also made me smile and reminded me of my younger self who used to love starting news character with the same enthusiasm Hazel is showing in this video. So cute and refreshing, some of the back stories behind those character names really made me laugh too lol

a part of me is a little sad that the evokers don't start at level 1, I honestly would love too level 1-60 on them
I can relate completely to your thought process regarding clearing space to have more fun. I decided a long time ago that having fun was the primary reason for playing and the minute it starts feeling like work, it's time to change things up. I love levelling! I love starting a new character, especially when it involves an aspect that is new, like the overhauled talent system. Go forth and have fun!
Same! The lower leveling is more fun to me. At a certain point there are too many skills and everything starts to get more complicated which makes it less fun overall. I have my handful of max characters but make new ones then delete them at a certain level once they become unfun to play.

After a long time playing WoW, I think leveling is one of the best qualitative ways to enjoy the game. You do you.

This one made me smile. And made me feel not so odd 😜 I have been doing this sort of thing for 17 years. After a long expansion I almost always get in a start a new toon mood. Also I learn new things better when I do it from the beginning. Changing everything I have been doing on an existing toon is exhausting for me. New toons are fun. I have been playing since 2005 so my play style has changed over the years many times. Altaholic to my core. I love that you are open about your quirks make you extra fun for me

So a few years ago you did a little series of baby battle grounds on the classes you were leveling at the time! I had quit wow at the time and hadn’t played in around 4 years. I saw one of those videos and by the time the battleground was over I was resigning up for wow and hopping on to start playing! If you were to ever do that series again that would be amazing! ❤️

As a massive altoholic, this has actually given me some confidence to perhaps go through with my own purge, though it’s not as big as yours. I’m up to 45 characters at level 50 or above (Legion invasions/prepatch gave me way too many) and just started a Highmountain Rogue to play with the new talents, so I’m thinking I may just pick my fave 2-3 of each class once cross-faction guilds are a thing. Remove some of the stress of having so many in the list while still making sure my faves are around.
Any advice for how to get over the hump to actually do so?

I don’t have as many alts as you but I have gone through a similar process. Did you say you were sending anima to your main? What use will anima be in Dragonflight? Why save it now? Also not quite sure how either.
Anyone know the name of all the mog on Hazeline the human? And is it available for Horde?
I haven't even watched the video yet, but I find leveling alts to be so therapeutic and relaxing. It's one of my favorite things to do in wow, so I support your decision regardless of your reasoning!

What are your favorite things to do in the game? I used to do wayyy more alts, but my OCD makes me focus on gearing one main, and one alt, max.
i totally get why you are doing this.. i love leveling as well - there is something so satisfying about seeing my characters climb, grow (& hopefully, improve).. some people just don't understand & even go as far as scolding me for this.. this does not deter me in the least, since i play for my enjoyment and no one else's.. glad to know i am not alone in this.. good on you, Ms Hazelnutty :D

This sounds like a good reason to level more hunters for Hazel :D Jokes aside I am also feeling the urge to level new toons with the new talents and the rescaled exp in the world. Leveling is a nice change of pace :)
@1:09 - "apparently they're bumping the character cap up to 60". If that's true, I will resubscribe. I wasn't going to delete a 60 to create an Evoker. I told that to Blizz when I cancelled last month. I haven't even been able to create an allied race because I hit the character quantity cap about a decade ago. Even with 10 new slots, I'll have to skip two of the ten allied races, however, since I also want to create an Evoker and a Demon Hunter. Any suggestions as to which two allied races I should skip? Which ones are the most useless?

How do you "save" the name? Don't you have to delete the toon and create a new one with the same name. Will it let you do that?
Sometimes the experiences we have while leveling are some of our best memories. I've deleted characters to play them again and i've gone to new servers. Played Alliance from launch to warlords and Horde since Legion. Have you ever regretted deleting a character?
I get you, Hazel! I've only gotten the talents done for 2.5 characters so far and I'm already tired of figuring out what talents I want, and what my new rotations will be. Halfway through working on my warlock yesterday I got fed up and made a new character just so I could have a stress-free time of leveling and getting talent points in a trickle instead of a flood.
And I also feel guilty about starting a new character when I already have a leveled version. However, I'm also attached to their names and appearances, and the stress of not getting a name back freaks me out as well. I wish there was a "reset character" button

Wow Hazel, way to go! I deleted a bunch of alts to consolidate all my horde characters onto the same server as my alliance ones. But none were above 50. I sucked up the cost of transferring four level 60 alts rather than relevel. I limit my characters by only allowing myself one alt per spec. I do like to have a different race, story and style for each spec alt rather than switching specs on a single character.
Thank you thank you thank you. I am so glad to know I am not the only one who does this. ❤️ I actually recently deleted two max level characters. One was because he was the wrong class (he should be a warrior, but I had leveled him as a monk), and the other because she was a favorite of mine but I felt like I had lost her story. She's a class and specialization I don't know much about and am not very good at. But I have two friends who are both very very good at playing the class, so I'm starting her over with their help, and continuing her role-playing story. I lost a few items that make me kind of sad, but it was worth it.
I also completely agree that when I look at my long list of characters, I feel overwhelmed and cluttered. I've actually been going through a phase where all my playing is strictly related to organizing my characters banks, money, guild banks, and making checklists of things for them to do. I'm not actually playing the game. And that isn't fun. By restarting some characters and deleting others, I'm sort of clearing away the clutter to see all the adventures that these characters want to have that have gotten buried.

Not to mention the fact that as far as the video shows, they were just straight up deleted.
Whenever I've deleted a character, I move all the gold back to my main, sell all the soulbound items that I can, and move any trade goods (ore, herbs, cloth, etc.) to a bank alt.
@@Enigma1788 well as she mentions briefly in the beginning, we cleared them out in the daily streams in the weeks up to altaggeddon ;)
so everthing Worth something was redirected to her bank goblin... dont worry ;)
I'm personally at 50 characters on my account and when I make a character, I have an entire roleplay identity in mind, with transmog ideas, spec, everything planned. I never make a character thinking "I'm going to use this character for X content", it's almost always "this character is going to be [something]" like an orc blade-master, a forsaken apothecary, a goblin trade-prince...
When I had to delete a max-level character, it's was the worst dilemma because of how much of myself I put into each character (especially before Shadowlands when max-level was 120, it was such a bigger investment than now).
I'd rather pay 25€ to migrate the character to a second account to archive it.
The +10 max characters per account is a gift from Heaven for me.

Including my two bank alts, I have 31 characters spread across 3 servers (Suramar and Draka are in the same battle group, so essentially two). That's after I deleted three alts (one being a max level Troll Mage) because I just wasn't clicking with them, as I like each character to have it's own vibe. Now, I'm debating if I'm going to make an Alliance Evoker in addition to the Horde Evoker that I know I'll make (For the Horde!) and for like the third or fourth time whether or not to create a natural Worgen character just so I can get the Heritage Armor.
Makes perfect sense. I didn't delete any since I only had a few alts, but I switched to a new server and started over. (NA to OCE too. Finally, no lag!) Also gave in to my love of druids and made one of every possible race. It's been fun playing with the new talents. Love the names you reserved.

How long after you delete a character can you restore it in your client?

I totally relate to the feeling, but when I get this feeling I move the alt to a world boss, or the entrance of a dungeon I need a mount from and leave it there. If I ever feel like taking a shot it makes it convenient for future me. I manually put them at the bottom of my stack too so they don't take up scroll space

Is anyone having trouble creating more than 50 characters on a single server? The "create new character" button is gone with 50 characters, but I can still create more characters on different servers.
I sometimes delete characters just so that I have a reason to level a new character. Is that weird?
I so feel the same way. The talent tree at level 60 looks difficult at first. I want to have the experience of level 1 and add skill point by skill point every time I level. I want to feel the rpg progress I crave
I feel this, leveling with a new talentsystem lets you connect to the character better and learn the speccs and different builds. I leveld quite a few characters as mechagnomes in the past because i love mechagnomes and i had great ideas for names (my favorite one being Plaguefart - DK).
Why is your webcam like a portrait on an easel? And why did you feel the need to cover half of your character scroll area?

This video was impressive to watch. I feel guilty deleting level 10 characters. 😂 I have a level 13 or warrior that I've had since Legion prepatch and it's so hard for me to delete her even though I probably would rather have a Maghar orc warrior, but I am at 50 character slots. So, good thing they are giving us 10 more. I had to delete some little ones to make room for possible evoker names and it was so hard. And I'm still not sure if I like the names I saved.

I completely get this, I am debating something like this myself. Levelling through the new talent system is much more appealing than learning it on multiple capped toons.

I know the feeling precisely. I have previously deleted several max level alts, and it didn't faze me at all. I love making new alts, especially when I start getting bored from current content, as I don't mind reliving past expansion content, and now it is super easy to do that with Chromie Time. And as you mentioned, sometimes it is easier to get used to a new system by starting completely over. Besides, deleted characters can be brought back, and I have done that as well, after changing my mind. After a character is brought back, you just have to wait 7 days before you can do it again, if you have others to bring back.

Have you considered making a new account? I did that for a complete reset, it was nice. I got to level all the achieves again and whatnot, do all my favorite collections knowing what I know now
I completely relate! I’ve leveled a bunch of characters since WoD that I’m not terribly attach to anymore. I’m probably going to keep some, but several are gonna be purged so my list of characters on my main realm doesn’t get past 30 lol.

I plugged in the Wii I had when I was like 10 and saw the saves of super Mario galaxy I had from all the way back then. It made me so nostalgic to see the old saves and memories I couldn't delete them.
I am actually starting over fresh on Stormrage right now as alliance. Just made 12 classes to start leveling even though I have 12 classes at 60 on Blackhand already. Can’t wait
I definitely remember doing this once per expansion to clear alts for new ones while I did play WoW. I don't have to worry about this on my FFXIV account since you can do everything on one character. I do sometimes miss having multiple characters to change things up at times.
During my downtime, i went through ALL of my characters (granted I had only maybe 30 total), and deleted most of them (leaving Moon Guard alone cuz I'm too attached to my RP characters). I plan on leveling every class to max as much as I can to explore the new talent trees and see if I vibe with any of them better. Was hard for me to like DKs, warriors, and shamans, but maybe this will be a nice start and break away from my Hunter main ways. :)

I have 36 toons (all races covered)...one of each spec...6 toons on 6 servers (all profs on all 6 servers)...half allie half horde...all at lvl 40 waiting for november 15th to finish them.
I like the new talents but I have to be honest a feel overwhelmed with them, so I decided to level up a new character to know what to do with my other characters.

I always loved making alts! Even if it's just 3 different ones for the same profession cooldowns. Lately with mmo's I'm just sticking with 1 character
and it really feels more satisfying and more meaningful somehow. I absolutely loved TBC classic that's the last thing I played. It did feel
a bit different than back in the day though but that's obvious 🤓
I did the same thing a couple of months ago, had a bunch of characters with the first 4 letters of their names were all the same. I ran out of new name ideas to incorporate the first 4 letters, deleted them all and started over using the random name generator.
I'm very similar, I'm looking at my alts right now and the new talent tree like, I'd love to level with this new system. Glad I'm not the only one!
I currently have 48 characters and I also love leveling. I have them split between two servers - LLane and Arygos. Llane for Alliance and Arygos for Horde. Here's the deal, Llane and Arygos share a server so I duplicate the characters on each server for PvP Random BGs. This allows me to easily switch sides based on which side is winning most of the battles. It also lets me to easily switch between classes when I get tired of playing the same one every day. I will also be deleting some as I really want to level with the new talent trees as we did back in the day.
It is strangely refreshing to see this. The last few expansions I went from having always been sticking to the same main character for years to literally wanting to create a new character to fit into each expansion's new story, despite having a bunch of unleveled alts already... 😅

I struggled to delete a level 50. A single level 50. Her name was Alexakinz, she was a mechagnome I did for the achievement/heritage armor. I realized I hate mechagnomes for their lack of tmog options and wasn't paying $32 Canadian for a race change, so she got deleted and the last few days I was leveling a Worgen Priest to replace her. Much better name, like how she looks more etc. I also already made enough toons that I am at account cap of 60 once I make 4 Evokers lol. I need help.
I also find it hard to connect to Belf/Velf characters, but I love to play them as a rogue. Their stealth animation is just the best in the game. But the rest of their animations also feel a little "weightless", especially compared to female night elves, who just have the best "lightfooted fighting/double kickflip jump" animations for a rogue, and best bow shooting animations for a hunter.
To each their own obviously, but I will never understand leveling up multiples of the same class. One of each class maybe but not duplicates. If anyone has the time and enjoys grinding the same class, can you explain why, thanks in advance.
I'm somewhat in a similar midnset, but only when there are drastic changes with each expansion, as is the case with Dragonflight. I get the urge to lvl up from 1 because it feels like a new journey, connecting with my characters and their story....a very RPG-like mindset, i reasons i love classic era.

I have 4 of each class 2 of each faction (5 are 60 rest are 50) but when my realm got connected to another was when i started making the horde toons so i just put all horde on the new connected realm and then only made alliance on my "main" realm it makes for easy character screen navigation
