So back in December, Mount Vernon replaced all of their 612s with new Modulator 8032Bs. The issue was that the voice messages weren't very effective with the old, rotating sirens. But not to worry...after calling the fire chief, we found out that the 612s were sold to a county south of them where they would likely be refurbished and put back up. Mount Vernon also added a new Mod at a park near the hospital last year, bringing the city siren count up to five. Coverage is still not the best but I'm hoping more sirens get added.
This siren is located at Veterans Memorial Park. The 612 sat at the same location on the corner of Forest & 26th. I suspect there's some programming errors since it doesn't do any voice test whatsoever. You can periodically hear two Mods to my west do voice announcements. One is the Time Square Mall siren which replaced the 612 with the weird 'wail' signal. The other is that brand new installation at the park.

Mine too! I like Modulator and Whelen electronic sirens. Not a huge fan of those older and outdated types of sirens that use motors and choppers/rotors to produce sounds. Electronic sirens rule!

Believe it or not, They are fine. Birds eardrums are super strong, Actually. You can play a 200,000 Hz Tone directly into their ears and they would be fine.
I personally wonder why this one didn't do the pre recorded voice... I'm assuming a bad receiver. Usually I find Modulators being activated on FSK tones, and not DTMF Strings, so that may be linked to it.
Besides the siren itself, the angles you got are very impressive! And GEEZ, That thing is TALL! I also heard the largest mod you could get from the first Modulator line was taller than this.

These were by far the most steadfast birds I've ever seen on a siren.
I love the sound of the wail tone on the FS Ultravoice controller.
Nice! Just on Saturday I was passing by on I-64 and I spotted a new MOD off in the distance. I believe it was the hospital one.

There seems to be some sort of programming error certainly. I can hear a distant MOD doing voice before both tones, including the tornado warning tone before Alert. These certainly sound punchy. Hopefully they continue working on them and get the bugs ironed out. Nice video Brandon.

I used to work near the terminals in Houston, TX, but never once heard them go off (I guess that’s a good thing since if I did, that would mean “it’s too late to run, find cover”)

All of the EOWS 612 Sirens had been replaced with Modulators in December of 2018

I remember seeing one of these in Texas on my way to Galveston TX. It was on the side of the road by a gas station i believe. Was the only time I ever saw a modulator. It was actually the first and only tornado siren besides a whelen WPS 2905 or 2906 in Lake Charles LA that i have seen to this day.

@@sirenkid2177 unfortunately i cant remember. All I remember is that it was next to a gas station or some building and I was going to Galveston from Alexandria La.

Jefferson County Central Dispatch Center is the Sheriff’s office dispatches the test by talking too the Fire Department’s and other community’s in the Area about the test Mount Vernon Fire Department Tests them Every First Tuesday Of The Month At 10 AM weather permitting

Does the voice say the same announcement as the 612’s? By the way, that’s a surprise that they’re moving the 612’s south of the county. You would think they’d scrap them. Where exactly are the old ones going?
Honestly those old 612's fitted with an UltraVoice controller would last easily another 30+ years. Siratone controllers were awful because of a few failing components according to someone I asked who has done extensive research on the Siratone controllers it was supposedly a bad capacitor as well as other issues. I'd rather take a UV fitted EOWS over a modulator any day.
I'm not sure on where exactly the 612s will be going, but if I had to guess it would probably be around Rend Lake. There's not a whole lot of sirens there.
DSRX100 that would make sense. Most Rural areas are weak of sirens I bet.
Yeah especially that area. That lake is a pretty large recreational area around Southern Illinois, so it'd make sense to place a few sirens there.

They're already deaf from a previous test.
They were on the top of the siren, not next to it. The siren is designed to project outward, not up.

No, that is just his radio. Those tones are played over the radio network and are decoded by the siren, which activates it.

They are called DTMF Tones, or "DTMF strings". These are used similar like car keys to arm, activate, and cancel the siren.

Come on MV, not only did you screw up on your programming, but you’re still using the same radio tones as before. It seems like they threw the system together in 5 minutes and called it macaroni.
There's also this very long delay between the DTMF tones and it activating. I had to edit it down a bit too.
The new UV's are only available as two-way, dtmf is a two-way activation method, why spend hundreds of dollars for purchase of a new set of dtmf when what exists works just fine?
