I have been working on reels for 40 years, and now that I am retired, I also run catfish charters. Glad to see your video! The internal gearing, bridge, and jack plate are extremely similar in design and material to that of the Abu's. 3 things that I like BETTER than the Abu's are the reel seat (60 Rover much stronger than nearly all of the Abu 6500's) the clicker (much more robust click tabs and button in the Rover) and the bearings (sealed spool bearings on Rover, shielded only on the Abu's). I have had to repair 3 Abu 6500 catfish specials for the reel seat pulling loose from the tie bars. I actually prefer the Rover over the Abu's for those reasons, and now have 6 Rover 60's that I use in my charter business for the past year wiht no issues. Smoothness of drag is about equal. Don't put too much in how high the drag goes, bait casters are all typically in the low 20's, but if you really need more drag, get hung up, etc., use your thumb. The frames can handle it. If you just have to, you can also increase your drag by increasing surface area (go carbontex real thin and add another drag washer). You can go real high dollar and get reels that "feel" real smooth, look like jewelry, etc., but they are just not worth it. I was a Daiwa Sealine/Seagate man until I got my Rovers. I am not endorsed by Kastking....lol. but I wish I was.
My husband and I have been major fans for years. We love watching you and your videos!!! We came up with this idea for night fishing. The dollar tree sometimes have these plastic spheres that are for making circular ice cubes. I used super glue to glue the 2 halves together and screwed an eye into the top silicone opening and put super glue around that. Then the tiny glow sticks fit into it and then the silicone stopper closes and it is a glow in the dark bobber. Then when the glow stick dies, you can switch it out. I have pictures, I'll email you the pictures as well.
Oh, I almost forgot. When my husband goes bank fishin he just takes his fishing backpack. He usually goes all day. So he takes everything from morning fishing to night fishing. So he takes mini glow sticks and zip ties to put wherever he needs when it gets dark. I put the 2 inch mini glow sticks in an old medicine bottle. That way they don't accidentally crack in his backpack if they're just in plastic bags and don't take up too much space.
I started bass fishing as a kid in the 1970’s . Worm fishing was all about the Abu Garcia Ambassadeurs . I looked at the KastKings for catfish and I see an old Ambassadeur. Watched a few videos & they seemed solid inside and out. So that’s what I bought to catfish with, the Rover 60. I have 4 on Whisker Seeker rods. Catfish don’t make long blistering runs to smoke a drag & so far they’ve done fine. $250 vs $50? Well, I’d rather put the money in decent rods. Santee weekend trip last month I reeled in 15 Blues 13-20 pounds without a hitch. Lost one heavy who peeled drag to a rock and broke 55 pound braid. Will they somehow cost me the “fish of a lifetime” someday? Maybe, but I doubt it. I’ve been pretty satisfied so far.
I have a kast king bass set-up and I really like it. It's not quiet as good as some of the upper end stuff but for the money it's damn close at a fraction of the cost.
My daughter was gifted 2 KastKing low profile baitcasters this year as she is just getting into fishing. They are rod/reel combos from KastKing and so far we have absolutely loved them over many others we've tried so far. She loves them so much she practically BEGGED Santa for one of their backpacks and he delivered, which made her super excited. We'll definitely be investing in more KK gear in the future, so far we have not been disappointed!
I learned about Kastking June 2023 and bought a MegaJaws Elite baitcaster. I was so impressed, I've bought 7 more reels and rods from them. They are not cheap... they are AFFORDABLE! 😛 I hope they send you some other gear to try out and you can do a video on it. And how cool you got your own discount code!
For testing the drag , you should have have used a long board with a handle on one end and a hinge on the other . Put a few eye hooks between the handle and the hinge , and hook the scale between the line and one of the hooks . This allows you to use less force to achieve a higher loading on the line / reel drag , and helps with controllability so you aren't jerking the line which will give more accurate results . Alternately you can rog a miniature block and tackle with some small pulleys and accessory cord or clothesline . This will also accomplish the same end and probably give you a longer pull length / testing window than a simple lever set up . Everyone can't afford a side by side , either .
Dude Im 8 miles north of a Carolina Line on Lake Gaston and I feel like youre "my people".....That being said I appreciate all that you do and this was....AWESOME!
I have several Kastking Rover reels, an 80, 60 and a 40. Have had them for several years and they have held up well. Will they replace my Abu Garcia reels? Of course not, but they are a great reel for the price.
Great information. I’ve always used spinning reels and kept my hair burred off. A couple of years ago I decided that since I was growing up, I needed a big boy’s hair cut and a casting reel. So I got on eBay and picked up a Abu Pretty cheap but then I had to rebuild it so I probably still had more in it than what that kastking cost. So when I get more I may look into the kastking. Great video Keith.
I have to say, I have two Kastking reels BFS and they are one of my favourite reels, well finished, and very smooth, of course, I have my abus for saltwater and salmon fishing, but Kastking came strong to the game! well done.
I have 5 kast king rovers I’ve been using for years with never an issue. I love them. Another good thing about kast king is the support. I bought 2 more on Black Friday last year and I just got a rod for the second one recently so I just took it out of the box yesterday. I put line on it and took it out fishing and couldn’t get it to adjust the cast control correctly. I came home and emailed support. I had a return email this morning with a direct phone number to Paul. I called him, he immediately picked up and helped me get the reel operating perfectly. Also, he told me to call him back and let him know how it was doing after I gave it some real world use and if I have any more problems with it, I have a year from the date I purchased it to get it fixed or replaced. Customer support like that is hard to find any more. I can afford to buy abu’s but why??
I bought some of the Kast King 3700 boxes and I'm very impressed. Interested to see if the reels are any good. Looks like they aren't bad at all...pretty good value, probably. The one thing you didn't test is the only thing I really care about in a larger reel, and that's how SMOOTH the drag is near the top. I don't care if a drag will lock down hard enough to break the line, I care if it will smoothly let line out so it DON'T break! If you could do that test again with the SxS, but go slower and see how smooth the drag lets out, over a longer run, that would be something.
All I use now are the KastKing Sharky III bait runner reels, I have 5 of them, 1 3000, 3 4000, and 1 5000 and they haven't let me down yet and I have had them for 3 years now.
Great review! I've used all KastKing Reels and rods for bass fishing and panfish for several years now. Never used that line of reels, although I've heard good things. Thanks for sharing!
Another very useful video my friend.... I live in Augusta and fish the Savanah river and Clarks Hill lake for big cats and stripers along with a few trips to the coast for saltwater fishing as well. Although I don't have any Kastking reels yet, I have seen and talked to others with these reels coupled with decent rods and they have nothing but good to say about them. Some of them like me also hit the saltwater with the same rigs and say they do equally well with big reds, black drum and sharks as well. Being on a limited budget in retirement, I believe the Kastking would be hard to beat for cost performance value. Based on your video, and feedback I have received from others including the comments below, when I retire a reel, I will replacing with KastKing. Thanks again for the great Fishin N Stuff content.... Joe
I’ve got two of the 80 r and they are on my warrior cat heavy rods. Awesome setup for big live baits and humongous flatheads! They been performing flawlessly for years.
Im an Abu man myself but those Kastkings look like a great bargain especially if your needing to outfit several new rods at one time. A big cat fever rod and any of those kastkings is cheaper together than all those 'premium' reels by themselves.
loved watching this video and the "stance" part made my spit out my coffee. I have used Kastking for a bit now (Tautog and surf) and so far they have no failed me.
I have several kastkings using specifically for cats. Have reeled in multiple 25+ flats and a blue about 50. They perform great and I love the bait clicker on them.
I just did the same those C4’s with the extra bearings make them smooth as butter and can wrench a tree off the bottom and I have never had an Ugly Stick fail me and all I use catfishing or trolling
I bought a cast king spincast reel two years ago. It cast well, but after less than an hour of use it became hard to crank. I took it apart, cleaned and greased it, and the same thing happened. One hour seems to be it.
Those are good, but slow retrieves. I prefer the Zebco Bullet, a fast and smoothe reel. But as good as they are, they only last a year, two at best. The line cuts a notch into the take up mechanism and then they are shot.
I already left a review but I went to buy a that 39$ rekon reel and when I put your code in it says it cant be used with the existing discounts. As it shows the rekon is normally 59. Just thought it it should be brought up. However, I did buy the rekon for 39$ and I found me some braided fishing line on their site as well that was on sale for 11$ some 50lb, the real should take all 300 yards so its perfect. 50$ even which gets free shipping.
I have to say after the drill test when you turned the handle with your hand it seemed to spin much longer than normal. Makes me wonder if I should do this with some as well.
Hahaha another great video. you always have great diy vids. would really dig more review vids. you make everything fun and informative. Keep up the great work
Great video Keith. It's funny sometimes anglers can get into arguments over what are the best reels, rods.... whatever. With the catfish explosion there has been a large amount of new products that have been released. Definitely do some research. I've started using the Piscifun Chaos 60. It's in that cheaper range and pretty AWESOME 😎👍
Thanks for showing some cheeper gear I should say less expensive gear as a disabled vet on a fixed income it's nice to see some good gear I can afford that isn't going to fall apart
Can you figure out a way of testing the longevity of the line counter no matter what brand seem to always have issues with them not counting or freezing up great video thank you
GREAT video Kieth. Should of threw some water, sand and dirt on the reel 😆. My piscifun i have on my 11' rod finally took a crap. I was casting and it re-engaged. The reel sounds like a train going down yhe tracks 😆. Its the only one ive had problems with over many of years. I'd say 7 or so.
Great info! I have kastking spinning reels and like them but hadn’t made to the jump to a bait caster. Gonna have to try one after this vid u did. Thanks again!
Yeah we build all kinds stuff haha . Actually me and Todd ( AKA the pool Guy ) we are working on a Volkswagen boat lol . We went and picked up a old pontoon a week ago with a 50hp on it . We tore it down now we got to cut down the toons next
Thanks for doing this video. I been thinking about buying the Rover. I have all my other reels are spinning and they are all Kast King. I want a casting reel and wanted to know what the bait clicker sounded like and you did it at the end. Thanks bro.
I have a few Kastking products, including a couple of spinning reels I use in the surf. It's pretty good stuff for its low cost. I don't get too mad when a kid dunks one in salt water or drops it in the sand. Hose it off and go on, buy another if necessary 😂.
I've been Kastking for six years, all I can say is I will never go back to Abu. My next is the 300 , I have the red mega jaw, and two sharkies. "AWESOME"
Speaking of manatees, I accidentally hooked one about 6 months ago. Manatee was not happy. I had to grab the spool and break him off. There is no slowing down a manatee.
You never need more than 11 pounds of drag. Smooth is way more important than weight. I am a lover of cheap reels for catfish. I have multiple of the Piscifun Chaos, Kastking Rover, and BPS Catmaxx. The Catmaxx is the best built, most quiet, and has the smoothest drag. It is also the most expensive. I just hate the wimpy handle. It is defiantly a Shimano parody, and probably comes from one of their factories. The Piscifun is the smoothest feeling overall. I love the size and the way it casts. I have the 50's and 60's, and they come with a nice power handle. They are the best value, and I kinda prefer them over the other two. Lews sells an exact copy of the Piscifun Chaos 50 for more $, yet it comes with a cheaper handle. Even though they are clear copies of the old Abu's, the Kaskings have the cheapest built quality. They definitely live up to their name though as they cast the furthest. The black 50's come with a power handle which is a plus, but it is not as nice as the Piscifun handle. One of the two 40's I purchased made a lot of nose out of the box. It was a gear on gear noise from the left side that couldn't be resolved with greasing. However, it did function perfectly. In all you can't really go wrong with any of them so long as you realize they are not lifetime reels. Don't expect $200+ longevity and performance from them. Really nice power handles are available on Temu, Alixpress, and Amazon for cheap if you don't like the stock handles on them. I swapped out the ones I didn't like.
I agree but still twice the price . This video is probably not for everyone . And I do get that . I'm not selling my Abu 6500s. But some people just don't have the funds you know
i like your video's. you do them with a sense of humor. you know how much the reel tightens down is not the most important part. a nice smooth drag with no catches is the most important. and the range, does it go to tight real fast or is it gradual.
It's gradual . I was just looking em down because that's the only spec they give you on reels is the max drag . I just wanted to see if they would really do what they say lol
They cast pretty good . But honestly nothing beats an Abu . I'm not saying that because I love em . They literally hold the world record for distance. Of course that wasn't a stock , out of the box Abu . It was modified
The orange rods I was using fishing are HellCats , they are made by Catch the fever . There more about them on that rod video . The black rods are Ugly stix . I used them for the gator scene because I didn't want to hurt my good rods acting stupid lol
Fishing gear from jig heads to reels have started to get out of hand with their pricing , so much so that kids who want to begin the sport and hobby of fishing cannot afford it .
Just bought my first kastking ever to see what the hype was about. KASTKING megajaws elite bait caster. It’s nice. Seems built well. Casts well. We will see how it holds up next to my Lew’s and Shimano Reels.
When reel manufacturers test the drag on their reels they put only a small amount of line on the reel. More line on the reel means more leverage . The numbers they report are not accurate. No one fishes with 10 yards of line on their reel.

If you don't want any of them reels I'll take em off your hands lol
In regards to the drag on these reels, I would also be equally concerned about the smoothness as well as the weight of the resistance
bingo, worthless to have 50 lbs of drag, if it aint smooth

I got lots of kastking stuff, including two rekons paired with my hellcat rods. Nothing of theirs has let me down just yet!
Your idea is awesome

Kastking reels are legit. I have several. Kestrel elite is my favorite. I have a handful of Abu Garcia Zata reels and all are amazing.
now that's 2 fishing youtubers i follow that have had good things to say about kastking. i think i know what brand my next reel is gonna be.
When you factor quality vs price they are hard to beat. I own a couple rods and reels and I’ve never had an issue. I give them as gifts now.
Not Project Farm, but a darn good video. Thank you.
Well I don't normally do tests but just being in the same comment as Project Farm is a complement
I'll watch this channel over project anyday
I love my KastKing Rover. I have two!
I have a kast king bass set-up and I really like it. It's not quiet as good as some of the upper end stuff but for the money it's damn close at a fraction of the cost.

I have purchased and used KastKing reels, braid, mono, flouro, and apparel. I have yet to have an issue with any of their products.
I have two KastKings and have no issues at all. For two years now fishing exclusively in salt water. From flounders to sharks, no problems!
I’ve got two of the 80 r and they are on my warrior cat heavy rods. Awesome setup for big live baits and humongous flatheads! They been performing flawlessly for years.
Kastking is a good company with quality equipment.
I only have one CastKing, it's a spinning reel, but so far no problems, of course I don't go fishing often.
Im an Abu man myself but those Kastkings look like a great bargain especially if your needing to outfit several new rods at one time. A big cat fever rod and any of those kastkings is cheaper together than all those 'premium' reels by themselves.
Red Necks and Red Next Tests .............................. Yaaaaaaaaaa ! 👍👍 Good test, two thumbs up. Tight Line

What did you use to hold the reel down during the drill test? That gave me an idea don how to spool reels a lot quicker
Just a scrap piece of metal and a welding wrench 🔧 lol
I rarely laugh at any videos. Maybe a chuckle here and there… y’all had me rolling with that fishing scene. My kinda folks.
I live in South Africa and LOVE your videos. Watched 1 and KNEW i HAD to subscribe. Loved this one!!!
Thank you very much
I just bought 2 bait casters 2 Sharkey 300's and 1 rekon 500..like em all..good reels.
I'm an Abu guy too. I have Ambassadeurs that are as old as I am (40) and function like new. The new ones are even better. They're hard to beat.
Just bought 4 Abu C4’s at $180 each and 4 catfish special Ugly Sticks at 65ish each so about a grand
I just did the same those C4’s with the extra bearings make them smooth as butter and can wrench a tree off the bottom and I have never had an Ugly Stick fail me and all I use catfishing or trolling
Drag is more than just pounds of drag - how smooth/consistent is it when drag is pulling - will it bind and break the line.
On the specs of every reel all the put is max drag so that's what I tested for . But I do agree with you
@FishinNStuff it is important, but that "smooth" is what costs more.
Love your content.
I bought a cast king spincast reel two years ago. It cast well, but after less than an hour of use it became hard to crank. I took it apart, cleaned and greased it, and the same thing happened. One hour seems to be it.
The best spinning reel for the money is a pflueger President in my opinion. For the money 💰
Those are good, but slow retrieves. I prefer the Zebco Bullet, a fast and smoothe reel. But as good as they are, they only last a year, two at best. The line cuts a notch into the take up mechanism and then they are shot.
When will your store be back up and running.
It was just the bearing breaking in more . I wouldn't do it you'd just help wear it out faster
Thanks for putting kastking on my radar. I have a lot of high end gear (I hate my guest to use) I look forward to checking them out. 👍🎣
I've been using Kastking reels for jigging and bottom fishing on kayak for years. I'm loving the sharky model. ❤❤❤
KastKing Sharky , r definitely awesome reels, we have caught multiple Blue cats over 60 lbs on them, n a 40+ lb carp ✌️✌️
Hahaha another great video. you always have great diy vids. would really dig more review vids. you make everything fun and informative. Keep up the great work
Thank you very much
Never owned a Penn reel in my life, so far... You hit the nail on the head sometimes,
and nobody saw the hammer...!
God bless ALL of us!

I have been using their reels for a few years now. Those Rovers are some of the best bang for the buck reels.
I had been thinking about trying a Rekon, but wasn't sure about the EVA handle lasting. I've got a Rover 70 and that's a tough handle.
It is a tough handle . I'm not sure but it's not as soft as it looks but not as hard as the rover
Thanks for showing some cheeper gear I should say less expensive gear as a disabled vet on a fixed income it's nice to see some good gear I can afford that isn't going to fall apart
I was surprised they did so good .
I've been using Kastking Rods and also love their Silky 8 Braided line
I have several different products from Kastking. Always been real solid gear. And for the price they are great.
Can you figure out a way of testing the longevity of the line counter no matter what brand seem to always have issues with them not counting or freezing up great video thank you
My round baitcasters are Abu Garcia. I just ordered in a new rod it's a St.Croix spinning xh power my new catfish rod.
I love Abu Garcias . I probably own 40 of them , I've collected over the years . And St. Croix are great rods.
Thank you very much Want2B
I love my abu because i can switch clicker off 😊
Great show as always 😊
👍🏴😁✌️
Wheres the pesky fish telling jokes llf
Just saying 😊
Nice.
Thank you for the code!!
you had me sold with the first test! lol.
I’m a newbie, what fish would you be casting for?
These reels are good for catfish and striper or anything larger
Great info! I have kastking spinning reels and like them but hadn’t made to the jump to a bait caster. Gonna have to try one after this vid u did. Thanks again!
They aren't the best . But they could be the best for the money for sure
Forget the reels, I need some red monster truck videos lol 1:21
I own kastking reels no problems with them
I've been Kastking for six years, all I can say is I will never go back to Abu. My next is the 300 , I have the red mega jaw, and two sharkies. "AWESOME"
Kastking fishing line is excellent to.
The new SuperPower Color Shield braid is the best line I've ever used. The black color line is awesome!
Sell my one question would be is I live in Florida how would they hold up to saltwater?
Speaking of manatees, I accidentally hooked one about 6 months ago. Manatee was not happy. I had to grab the spool and break him off. There is no slowing down a manatee.
"Better do a good job even though we ain't payin' ya." Lol
Ok, found it. But how’d they do on the water?
I used a cast king and an akuma for over a year akuma is tuffer real sied by side one year test
I agree but still twice the price . This video is probably not for everyone . And I do get that . I'm not selling my Abu 6500s. But some people just don't have the funds you know
We use the kastking spinning reels been a great reel
Been using kastking reels since 2017. Haven't had an issue yet!
Those are some nice reels would love to have one
How about that, the cheap reel, made like the old school good real, was good…
I love it.
i like your video's. you do them with a sense of humor. you know how much the reel tightens down is not the most important part. a nice smooth drag with no catches is the most important. and the range, does it go to tight real fast or is it gradual.
It's gradual . I was just looking em down because that's the only spec they give you on reels is the max drag . I just wanted to see if they would really do what they say lol
Awesome video! Would love to see more like this!
I have a Kastking baitcast reel. Awesome reel 💪🏻😎. Big brands can learn from em.
I’ve pushed kastking for years. I have hundreds of videos on my channel and you’ll see kastkings in every one.
lol you can always tell lake Norman because of the steam from duke power. not bad video. looks like it was a cold day.
Yep lol
Needed to put a fathom in the mix. They are beasts
What about the castablility? How far do they cast compared to the ABU's?
They cast pretty good . But honestly nothing beats an Abu . I'm not saying that because I love em . They literally hold the world record for distance. Of course that wasn't a stock , out of the box Abu . It was modified
I actually bought 2 rover 40s about a week ago, I have used them maybe 3 times. Not to bad actually. Great video as always.
Thank you
Great video I enjoy seeing your diy fishing video I'm also a Abu Garcia kind of guy 🎣👍🏽
Brother when that shot of y'all on the water came up and I saw that steam I thought y'all was on belews lake
Try using Kastking spinning reels or bait cast reels. They are long lasting. Take care of them and they last.
Hi buy cheap Okuma line counter , last one year only…
Really enjoying my KastKing tackle bag and boxs
I would like to know about your fishing poles ??? Where you got them ??
The orange rods I was using fishing are HellCats , they are made by Catch the fever . There more about them on that rod video . The black rods are Ugly stix . I used them for the gator scene because I didn't want to hurt my good rods acting stupid lol
@@FishinNStuff I do saltwater fishing but like the look of your rods ! To put my Abu Garcia on it or my # 7 on !! They are solid rods !
Fishing gear from jig heads to reels have started to get out of hand with their pricing , so much so that kids who want to begin the sport and hobby of fishing cannot afford it .
I think you forgot about Zebco. But seriously I will definitely be buying one or more of these in the near future! Thank you again, Mr. Keith.
I would have included zebco but I don't think the make a conventional reels lol but then 33s is awesome
Just bought my first kastking ever to see what the hype was about. KASTKING megajaws elite bait caster. It’s nice. Seems built well. Casts well. We will see how it holds up next to my Lew’s and Shimano Reels.
This was a very good video thank you for putting it out
Drag test should be how long it can last at 70% before it starts to get hot or lose power or lose it's smoothness
Mine were funnier though lol
When reel manufacturers test the drag on their reels they put only a small amount of line on the reel. More line on the reel means more leverage . The numbers they report are not accurate. No one fishes with 10 yards of line on their reel.
Great video as always Keith
