This has been my no.1 song of theirs since I first heard it on my older brother's copy of Utter Madness when it was first released. Nothing comes close to the sheer absolute utter joy it brings me.
I recall walking 5 km home in the early morning from a bird's place (got nothing). This song consoled me. Love this band!!! Listened on that Sony cassette playing thing (Jesus I'm old).
I am a huge Madness fan and have been for a very long time. I would love to know why Madness didn't make Victoria Gardens the 'A' side and one better day the 'B' side ?
Totally agree, this should have been their fair well single back in 84. It’s got an end of an era feel to it, a bit like The Jam’s Beat Surrender. They should have drawn a line under it at this stage and not gone on for two more years.
i wonder how this would have charted if they would have released by far the best non single and this is the single mix recorded for release for the label to pull for grey day instead

One better day is a classic
Easy. Because One Better Day is superior. So too is Prospects, Keep Moving and Brand New Beat on the LP.

@@davedinsdale8606 i knew it was one of the day recordings and as far as i know they didnt even plan that release
My guess is a lot of people who like Madness won't have heard this track which is a shame cos it's a cracking song.
Strange mix, prefer the LP version..sounded fuller
