Just discovering this song in 2022. Brilliant. Although I'd been introduced to Madness here in the US via Our House and One Step Beyond, I didnt really appreciate them until the Keep Moving album which was an evolutionary step in the perfect direction for me. Loved the arrangements, production, songwriting, originality, and energy. Those songs demonstrated their depth as musicians and poets and humans. This song is another example of that and I regret not hearing it sooner. I understand Madness is highly regarded in the UK. Unfortunately, I don't think US audiences got exposed to them as anything other than a fun/goofy Ska band.
@@rustynail8925 Yes, One Better Day is at the top for me as well. But, I say that for a great number of their songs... my "favorite song" of theirs is often the last one I heard regardless of how many times I cycle through them.
This is there among the very best Madness creations ever. Trouble is, the best of Madness music is getting mighty crowded. If only all troubles were so untroublesome. Shit that last word has got now one of them red lines underneath. Cos the dictionary man is not a bed & breakfast man or something. Untroublesome.
A huge madness fan, but I wasn't massively keen on Sorry. However, this is the best madness track since the 80s, easily. Superb, I'm actually shocked by how good it is. I really hope it's a big hit, it deserves to be.
Ah, nice song, though surprisingly only used in a montage of the movie "Neues vom Wixxer" (translated...erm..."New stuff from the Jerker"). For those, who are wondering: It's a german comedy of old police movies set in England. The man in the mask is the "Jerker", a criminal killing other criminals in Part 1, and seven people, he announced beforehand in the second (including the first Jerker from part 1 - he became a legacy-character). The tall detective with the melon is "Inspector Very Long", the slightly...bigger one is "Chief Inspector Even Longer" (and yes, nearly everyone has such a punny, english-sounding name, often even sexual). It's a very good comedy, playing with their status as an old timey-story (several areas around London are apparently still Black/White by choice) and their setting in England, even though it's clearly a german film (Longer looking down to the ground, reading trap door and trying to remember, what's the translation). It certainly is a bit silly at times, but it is an intelligent way of silly. So...why Madness for this German Movie? Oliver Kalkofe (producer and actor for Even Longer) is a great fan of Madness, using a cover of one of their songs for Part 1. As a result, Madness expressed their interest in singing for Part 2 themselves.
Lets hope this is the next single to be released in the UK, this is a classic madness track and a great video to match. Woody surely is peter pan - he never seems to age!
It's absolutely one of their best, if very different from their early stuff. If you liked Baggy Trousers,(my previous favorite) this will surprise you, hopefully pleasantly. This isn't nut nut nutty Maddy boy ska. The Liberty of Norton Fulgate is an incredible song. I also liked NW5 and the Clerkenwell Polka. Shoot, I like the whole CD!
I simply appreciate that they’ve always come across as unapologetically working class English blokes. It’s great to still see them as friends and a working band to boot!
I heard this for the first time on the Radio 2 festival in a day, thought it must be a new song from their album!!! Didn't realise it was an older song. Love it!!!!
Going to see madness on the 14th in Nottingham, can't wait fell in love with them when they appeared on magpie, only the older folk will remember, also can't wait to see squeeze loved them times x
Not even released yet and this is already a MADNESS CLASSIC!!! "People change just like the weather, some for good and sometimes never, I hope things work out for the better" BRILLIANT!!
I first heard this song doing the our house musical at school and fell in love with it but the one problem is it makes me cry whenever I hear here it now as it reminds me of how much fun I had doing it
i am so HAPPY to just hear their voices and their sound after all these years from not hearing them on thr radio. Did someone say they are touring again????
Wie ich mich damals gefreut habe, dass Madness zwei Songs zum Soundtrack beitragen durften....aber der Hauptdarsteller und Mitproduzent Oliver Kalkofe ist auch ein großer Madnessfan
Brilliant! This is taken from the German film Neues Vom Wixxer( News from Wanker). Madness play their comedy part in the video. The last part is filmed in Hoxton Square, London N1 and The Church is St Monica‘s RC.
We did a production based on madness called our house including songs like out house nw5 baggy trousers and more and it was a London love story but these are amazing
Brilliant song, they really look like they've got a new lease on life after the Dangermen Sessions, I love this. Four words though boys! Thompson, Foreman, Barson, Bedders? Hope the new album goes interplanetary
saw it in london with the original cast which never had this track in it !! going on wednesday in Edinburgh so will be very intressting to see the changes !!
Much better version than the remix released in the UK. Get your hands on a copy of this via ebay. You know it makes sense. Check out Right Said Fred doing 'The Wizard' from the album 'Wonderful'. Camp as a row of tents but fantastic all the same.
Well he was in the ensemble- was wearing the blue t-shirt and shorts at the begining and had his hat on backwards and he played Joe's double when they were on the stage at the same time-one in the white tracsuit and he was one of the guys with the fire in wings of a dove(the one with blonde highlights)
I think this is the 2nd "Wixxer" film. The song will likely be included in the movie. One film "Neues Vom Wixxer" had the wonderful song "It Must Be Love, Love, Love" (a cover of Labi Siffre), sung by Madness. The video to the song also included parts of the film, including the actors and the band together. That video includes clips of "Alfonse Hatler" frequently. UBERRASCHEN !!!
I would love to hear an audio of the girl playing Sarah in Our House singing this song. I saw this show a couple months ago and loved it, her version of this song was breath taking.
In the original version of the show, the song "Sarah's Song" was used. It was in a revival version of the show that the song NW5 replaced it. Here is one production of the revival show and this song. If you do a search, you can now find clips from various productions of this song. Not sure which is best or features the actress you saw. ruclips.net/video/OH5vS2ahaxE/видео.htmlsi=5HlbJKGJGCdK802o
It seeks its precioussss and hates Bagginses, chipssss and Madnesss. Nine of the other dislikes are ringwraiths, with the other two being Sauruman and Sauron.
I think it's only fair to say, that I - and you probably too - expect a lot from Madness in the years to come. It will be interesting at least to watch them develop from young and nutty to old and wise.
“I will love you all my life but without you in my life” that line

For me it's this and 'one better day' brings out the best of madness in how they tried to depict life in towns and cities in England during the 80s
Loveyoutr commenttruth❤
In that case keep your ears to the ground as I believe they are currently working on a new album
@@rustynail8925 Yes, One Better Day is at the top for me as well. But, I say that for a great number of their songs... my "favorite song" of theirs is often the last one I heard regardless of how many times I cycle through them.
My favourite song is of that era too. Victoria Gardens. After that is the likes of One Better Day and MKII.

It wasnt just used for the movie, nw5 was actually a song in the musical, though it was very different in the musical.
"It's a German comedy." That's funny all by itself.
Saw them last night at the O2. Incredible atmosphere, 20,000 people singing along having lived their lives hrough this type of song.
Lets hope this is the next single to be released in the UK, this is a classic madness track and a great video to match. Woody surely is peter pan - he never seems to age!
Brillantes y geniales en todo lo que sacan. Larga vida a Madness desde Croacia.
Since the Michael Caine video eons ago I have been convinced that these guys could be class A straight actors. Awesome to see them.
Tisaregeniusesmadnessatall❤

An instant Madness classic, I loved it from the moment I first heard it in Dublin. Superb! Madness really do keep getting better.
I simply appreciate that they’ve always come across as unapologetically working class English blokes. It’s great to still see them as friends and a working band to boot!

@kama3 yes it is a part of London i'm fairly certain
