For those trying to cover the windows, I've used bubble wrap and foam board. I find that I can reuse the foam board a lot easier than the bubble wrap. I'm so cold. I'll use anything. I will stuff bubble wrap in the outlets! Use pillow covers stuffed with sand to keep the draft out from under the doors. Thanks for the suggestions. I love the shiny wall cover to help keep out the cold. I will definitely try this. Thx!

I put regular packing type bubble wrap on the top panes and clear shrinkable plastic on the bottom panes.
Can leave them on year round now.
If you can't afford it, simply place towels over the glass to keep air off the glass.

Just wanted to add, if you can’t find or afford an under the door seal you can use a super thick rolled up bath towel until you get the real seal! 😊

very impressive! thank you for making this information accessible. Especially enjoyed the tip with making a dent with a hammer before screwing into the metal door - this is a tip that is SO SIMPLE and something that I can use in many contexts, where most "repair videos" would only show the "official way" to solve this problem. You have helped a lot of people, especially women (and mothers) with this kind of content. Thank you SO MUCH. I hope you have a happy and safe holiday season

We recently found a crack in the inside pane of our 46" x 82" picture window. The outer pane has no crack so it's not like there was a direct exchange of air between the inside and outside. So far I have received one quote to replace the window which is a ridiculous $5,000. It seems most of these places that send out flyers aren't interested in dealing with people seeking replacement of only one window. I am big on return on investment so I'm still seeking someone that will quote me a reasonable price but I have taken my own actions in the interim with very positive results. This window is in a room we rarely spend time in and the curtains are typically always closed which is why we hadn't noticed the crack that ran from a bottom corner to up 16 inches across and then back down about 1/3 of the way across the lower portion of the window. It resulted in a portion of the window being separated from the main glass totaling about 1 1/2 square feet. What I have done for now is used UV activated windshield repair glue / filler along the crack and sealed the crack with clear silicone. After that I applied an inside layer of Frost King window plastic and used a heat gun to shrink out the wrinkles. A hair dryer is what they recommended but I was getting no results using that method. The results were very positive. We use to notice a chill in the air in this room when passing through that no longer exists. I plan to add the film to a couple other windows in the house that tend to have a chill when the temperature drops outside. We have cheap vinyl windows that the previous owner had installed but being retired we don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money if we can help it. I can certainly attest to the benefit of adding the window film and have also replaced the sweeps and added some seals around two sets of French doors in the room we spend most of our time in. We had an $11,000 high efficiency electric heater and heat pump installed a little over a year ago when our heat pump failed but we are still very energy conscious. Every gap you fill or wall you insulate makes a difference. Thank you for this video. I already have a pretty good idea how to seal and insulate a home but there are many people that don't realize how much you can save on both heating and cooling costs with a little effort while spending very little money. Great job.

How much are you losing by covering up the insulation, I wonder? I just did that in my dining room, and, of course, it looks, well....not good. I'm worried if I cover it, though, I'll lose the insulation properties, since the heat reflects off the insulation.

If you only have single pane glass and no storm and/or if you have no bathroom or kitchen ventilation fans this can happen. Try drying things out and using the window film for fast fix. Consider adding more sturdy/permanent interior or exterior storms, a bathroom exhaust fan and kitchen range hood before next winter if it’s too late to do this year.
