    Thermidor 2: A-
The Lobster is back - both this machine and X-Terminator clearly had a phobia of Phillipa Forrester, since the only series it did well in was when she was away on maternity leave. 15 flips really doesn’t seem like a lot, and it shows - Thermidor gets weaker towards the end of its’ fights. But here, experience and power was enough to get it through - perhaps with a dose of having an opponent completely incapable of winning S7 judges and producers over, despite how good it was.
    Mighty Mouse: B+
Trevor Wright is definitely one of the better drivers on Robot Wars, overshadowed by guys like Graham Bone and Ian Watts who had better combat success. But kind of like David Gribble, I respect having driving skill for a non-standard robot without two wheels. But Mighty Mouse was never going to get far in such an anti-ram bot series - a heat final is a fitting reward after so little success with Velocirippa. That said, just wait for Ironside 3…
    Kronic the Wedgehog: B+
I could have sworn Kronic fought Thermidor but maybe the producers figured it would be a better heat final, kind of like what they do with Spawn Again’s heat later (REALLY not looking forward to that one). Unfortunately, despite beginning to show the root that would eventually become the awesome Apollo, electric problems ensue. A very worthy competitor though, that was happy to put on a good show much like Beast was.
    The Kraken: D+
This machine could have been so, so lucky. People mention that Michael Oates (Eruption) finishes fights quickly, but Tsunami proved how toying with your enemy can be fatal, and Thermidor had a number of times it could have had a fight completely in the bag go wrong. But it didn’t, and the match that the Kraken gave to them on a silver platter was taken, if dangerously. I mean seriously. Even before I’d seen the pneumatic claw bend in half like a paraplegic limbo dancer, questions had to be asked how weight saving was put in place to have both an effective crusher and a pneumatic ram - apparently it was to make the ‘clutcher’ arm out of tin foil. At least it kept running all the way through the fight, which is why it gets a D+.
    8645T 2: B
See this is why the Floor Flipper should be active more often, rather than just to throw robots for a good replay opportunity. It’s fun, powerful and utterly hilarious. Beast isn’t showing close to the design philosophy that would lead it to it’s current form, and the amazing success of its’ Featherweight counterpart Beauty, but that axe looks suspiciously similar to how Beast runs as Harpy at the live events. The more things change and all that.
    Mobot: D
A bizarre design, but full points for effort. An invertible spinner that changes orientation when flipped - a strange precursor to PP3D. It barely had time to get going though, and I have my doubts about the effectiveness of the weaponry. Amusing to note though that this is the only machine from this fight that didn’t end up in S8 Heat E.
    Pinser: C+
I mentioned during the Crusher Crunch-Up that without Tiberius this is probably the best ‘me too’ Razer clone in Series 7. It did the most damage, but I think it forgot the one thing that arguably Razer was good at, getting back out and doing something else. Both in this and in the CCU, one serious blow was all it took to completely hobble the machine. Well designed to do the main job, Must Try Harder for part 2.
    Cobra: D-
Not going to give this a full F because that would imply this had absolutely no work or effort put into it, and it looked interesting enough. Titanium armour, golf stud wheels… you can tell they made an effort. But my god, only 5 blows with a pneumatic spike, which has never worked in combat robots aside from the ridiculously lucky 101? Just… so many things are bad decisions on this machine, it’s kind of a good thing we have a very honest competitor in Cobra (BE) nowadays to remove this thing from the memory.
    Hard: A-
Speaking of Belgian machines! Hard has a difficult place for me because like Topbot, it’s replacing a regular hero for its’ country - Diotior might be the more iconic machine but Deppopasaurus Rex, Philliper and Philliper 2 are ‘the Belgian machines’ to me going back to the old series. This one is excellently engineered though, and driven very well. That flipper’s not bad compared to some we see in this series - short swing but maximum force is one I personally like.
Riptillion: C-I was so ready to give this one a terrible mark but… I don’t know. There’s something about this robot I like. That spinner isn’t that much of a joke, considering the mark it made in Hard’s armour. It simply wouldn’t be flipped over, at all, and it might have kept fighting if it wasn’t for the crush that Growler’s jaws inflicted upon it. Judging by the driver’s face, wiping his brow… he was just happy it got into the arena and did something. I have to respect that.
