This was my first time watching a championship episode of Robot Wars. This was awesome to watch. I even have this episode in 60fps on Blu-ray and saw the Science Channel cut
Thanks so much for uploading all those videos !
They should have kept the battle music from the old series
There's so much they should have kept from the old series. The old house robots had so much more personality, the old arena was more raw, dangerous and had better style, the old graphics for the transitions, robot info and stuff was so much cooler and the music was great. The whole thing was raw, metal and industrial. This new one felt artificial, clean and too sciency
Bro this guy is an elder bro been here for 17 years wtf
@@Player_723 Who?
These robots were like pottery. They would destroy themselves without a fight 😂😂😂😂
Entertainment, just pure entertainment!!
thank you so much for uploading. i love this show much better than battlebots. so sad they were cancelled.
Are you mad... Those battle bots would of fcuked up robot wars robots.. I loved hypnodisc and razor don't get me wrong... But ours against the battle bots would have been embarrassing... Tombstone, carbide, minataur, riptide would have obliterated any of the robot wars robots.... Even sir killalot would have been a bit shook
Admittedly alot of the battle bots robots are built by University engineering students ours were probably built in sheds by postmen
Honestly, seeing Thor with his dinky boop boop "hammer" really disappointed me.
I'd like to see robot wars go against the US's battlebots in the ultimate competition
Already a few there, carbide boys for example
N Razor boys
Aside from all the great action in this episode, what I loved most about this Grand Final is that for the first time since Series 5, we did _not_ get a bullshit finish with an undeserving winner. Team Typhoon weren’t to blame for what happened previously in Series 7, but the Championship still shouldn’t have gone to them. And don’t get me started on Team Tornado taking their cowardly shortcut with stupidly unfair modifications allowed by flawed rules. Apollo on the other hand showed how to properly win, by just keeping at it until its durability prevailed over Carbide’s and could add to that with plenty of its own attacks, becoming genuinely superior.
The only trouble with Battlebots for the competitors is the cost of the build and repair. Ok for those teams with deep pockets. I do love Battlebots while Robot Wars started something wonderful and the first series amazed our eyes.
57:32 Dara could've announced the winner with a bit more excitement, just like Craig Charles use to do.
I miss this :(
wait its back we can submit applications again ?
battlebots has such a superior format.
Wait how old is this it's older than 7 months ago
What I find quite fitting is that both thor and apollo are both from Greek mythology so it would make sence for them to go up against eachother.
Sorry, but Thor is Norse mythology, not Greek.
The sound design is hilarious, weirdly this was the thing that put me off at the time
Send any of these to vegas... I DARE ya
I think none had watched battlebots that takes place in the USA. Thats what i call real robots war. Each of those botts have destructive weapons. The fights is between 2 robots only and there isn't any childish deterrence or disturbance from the arena. This is a 2016 episode... 😵💫😵💫😵💫.. There can be delay but 8 years....
Carbide, AKA the second coming of Hypno-Disc. 😎
It's terrific to have found Robot Wars on youtube, especially the early series which we never got here in Oz. So funny seeing young Jeremy Clarkson, still wet behind the ears, and the evolution of both the show, arena and robots. I very much appreciate how understated UK Robot Wars is compared to the absurdly over-the-top American version.
I LOVE the Apollo guys, Behemoth, Gabriel (the Unfightable), Thor and Eruption.
On the down side, while Carbide is a fearsome robot, the drivers Dave and Sam have won my Bad Sports of the Millennium award for consistently attacking and wrecking robots that have already died. It's sucker-punch mentality...mean, nasty, unsporting, uncalled for. Despite what Dave and Sam have said on air, fans DON'T want to see Carbide or any other robots wreck dead robots. We want fair fights and once a robot is dead, leave it the heck alone.
Way to many ads as always
I don't like how the house robots can no longer tear apart an immovable robot. Switching from single elimination to round robin was a mistake.
My theory is that it gets too expensive to repair for the contestants. Back in the day it was wild seeing Razor tear apart opponents with the house robots.
17:44 The glue must have wore off. 😛
I like robot fights and stuff, but man the BBC production value is lacking.
It always did. Always on a budget.
wish i had money to build combat robots, i have so many ideas that have never been seen before.
1) add brakes on spinning weapons, so it won't tear itself apart (like tombstone does all the time)
2) add automatic gearbox on spinning weapons, so it has insane torque + speed. i've seen so many spinners get jammed up either in other bots, walls or due bent armor, this would just bruteforce it and keeps it working.
3) don't use chains or belts, use hub motors (that's been done on smaller bots)
4) on flippers and axe bots, use A.I. controlled weapon. it would measure the distance using laser and if there's nothing to hit, it wouldn't hit at all. you have a button that you hold down and during that the weapon is active, so if something enters in the "danger zone", then it will auto fire the weapon. i see so many of them missing hits as they can't time it perfectly, A.I. would eliminate this. wouldn't even have to be A.I., just some automatic system to check. if it won't be able to make the hit, it won't hit. like if object is moving too fast, it won't attempt to hit it or it pre-fires and hits dead-on.
5) instead of using rubberbands or other nonense to pull the flipper back, use springed hinges, this way as long as the flipper is attached to the bot, it will go back to original position, i've seen lot of flippers break and remain open.
6) some bots probably have it, but make upside down controls. if your bot gets flipped and it can drive upside down, then add a switch that you can flip and it flips the controls on your controller aswell, so you won't have to drive with backwards controls.
7) on bots like carbide, use hub motor and make the entire weapon mount flexible, like car engine is mounted on heavy rubber bads, this way it wouldn't take the impact itself and there's less chance that bots goes flying after hitting opponent. it could still probably use a chain, just needs some heavy duty chain tensioner that prevents the chain from coming loose after impacts when the mount is moving.
Somebody fund this lunatic haha
dangggg
1) Was attempted on a Series 4 robot (Disc-O-Inferno) and the brakes burnt out. A more modern attempt would be interesting? But largely impractical as a robot *should* be able to withstand it's own gyroscopic forces. And if it can't, you get an Apex situation.
2) Was done on Son Of Wyachi.
3) As far as I'm aware there isn't currently a hub motor on the market that's powerful enough to drive the weapon on a heavyweight robot.
4) was done by Chomp,
5) is a misunderstanding of how flippers get jammed - most flippers tend to get jammed due to the failure of the exhaust valve, therefore preventing the pressure escaping the cylinder and keeping it at full extension.
6) has already been done quite a lot of times, and some roboteers prefer to just learn what it's like to drive their robot upside-down rather than having to learn two control schemes.
7) would be mighty interesting!
I think the shows actually give a small bonus to help supplement the building costs of a robot. As long as your prove you CAN build one
The house robots make these contests unfair.
The kid driving TR2 is not the best driver, the guy driving Apollo is.
I always preferred Battlebots to Robot Wars
...HMMMMPH...COMPETITION FORMAT WAS OFF, WHY NOT CRAIG CHARLES
...NO WONDER IT WAS CANCELLED
Maybe because he's 60.
go THOR v 2
The level of US competition is much higher. They play in a professional league while these are very amateur. The robots have to fight to the death like in the US. Here the robots don't have destructive weapons.
That's purely because back then the rules and restrictions in robot wars were (and probably are today) more tighter than the big league ones like battle bots. If the rules were lifted and went all out then maybe the UK could compete with the US but that would also mean the structure, strength and integrity of the arena wouldn't be strong enough to withstand massive blows and possibly injure the croud. That's why the bots that were built back then we're designed to have limitations on purpose so they won't get desqualified. But it would be nice if the UK bots were stronger. We just never really kept up with the times very well.
The ultimate robot fights will be humanoids fighting each other...?...these are just-dangerous toys...!
I mean being honest…that Thor design was worthless.
👌🤓👍
this tourney kinda seems like a joke compared to battle bots
Compared to the last 4-5 seasons of BattleBots maybe, but this was filmed in 2016 which would align with about season 2 of BattleBots 2015 reboot.
Very few bots in both shows ran brushless motors, most competitors only had 1 frame and the quality is pretty comparable in my opinion, the biggest difference is that BB had a lot more spinners while the UK had more flippers since the arena had a proper Out Of The Arena zone.
They were on a BBC budget, they weren't allowed sponsorships.
Skip to 8 mins. Then watch one shot fight. Then move on because it's 50 mins of total bollocks back story and lore. Just basically justifying an hour long video with nothing going on
Total waste of time.
Just watch battle bots.
It's much better and actually entertaining with much less TV time filler bs.
Literally this is like pee-wee football compared to the NFL when you look at this garbage compared to Battlebots.
