Interesting thing about one of the members from The Alien. It's Sarah (the little girl on the team). She would actually be part of Tom Brewster's team competing in the 2018 season of Battlebots with Monsoon.
The Alien was actually a bot ahead of its time.. Vertical spinner with a self righting mechanism on its back... they were even fun and destructive back then. I mean, of course they were, Matilda proves that.
Anyone notice how JP says shredder has "beaten good robots like mousetrap in the past" erm if I remember correctly when shredder fought mousetrap shredder was drunk and drove down the pit

Chromalot imo did basically nothing except that 1 thing, GBH and Alien did way more. And, Chromalot had way worse control than GBH

Apart from three or four flicks, G.B.H took loads of damage, nearly drove in the pit at least twice and didn't KO anyone. Also how was Chromealot in less control? It was well driven and didn't enter any hazard zones, unlike GBH.

Hmm, S3 is about the only one I'd rate in this. Well, first heat was a lot more interesting than I expected. The spinning hammers of Alien were quite effective, and so was its unusual srimech. GBH also had a very effective flipper/srimech. Chromalot now has a good lifter/srimech too. Seriously, the standard of bots has improved massively over the last few seasons. I wouldn't care to pick who went through - maybe Alien and GBH but I wouldn't take bets on it. Well the judges went for Alien and Chromalot. I think GBH was unlucky but it was a close thing. In many another heat GBH would have gone through with flying colours on its performance. Second heat - what was with bloody Psycho trapping S3 in the corner? That should be illegal. Just as well the judges put S3 through, along with Shredder not withstanding that S3 had removed one of its blades right at the start. S3 vs Chromalot - savvy tactic by Chromalot to try and lure S3 into the pit - S3's great width makes it very vulnerable to that tactic, they did well to avoid it. Shredder vs Alien - what the hell was Shunt up to, having a go at Alien when it pushed Shredder into the corner, I thought house bots were only supposed to attack the bot that was pushed into the corner, not the one doing the pushing. The house thugbots seriously need their wings clipping. As usual, was JP even watching the same fight? - going on about the power of Alien's weapon when it wasn't working the whole time... in my opinion though, Alien clearly did more, and I think the crowd agreed, and the Shredder guys looked surprised at the judges decision. Shredder was no match for S3 though. I think at the end Shredder were happy to drive themselves into the pit (except bloody Killalot kept getting in the way...)
I'm not sure if The Alien or Sir Chromalot should have gone through, but I thought GBH 2 was the one that had definitely secured their spot. They say 'controversy' a lot about these judges' decisions, but this time yeah. I disagree. GBH 2 is the one that should have gone through for sure.
At the time there was talk about the BBC trying to sell it to the Americans cand trying to make the show look more American, however they had Battle Bots and was happy with that.
That first round melee was one of the best i've seen, everyone was getting stuck in including Sir Chromalot. Altho i feel like GBH 2 did more than the Alien imo. Alien lost it's weapon halfway through and GBH 2 was the more aggressive and it's self-righting was very stylish. ICU, great team very sporting and i bet Marlon Pritchard (X-Terminator captain) must be very pleased with his family for doing their best. shame they went out in the first round.
They have cameras in the arena so all the have to do its tilt them up or even had someone come into the arena with a camera point it up and zoom into the bit of shredder in the roof
A couple of bad decisions IMO. Melee should've been: The Alien and GBH 2 since Chromalot got maybe two flips and spent the rest of the fight on their backs or being hit. Shredder vs The Alien was close, but The Alien controlled the fight early on and they were even for the rest of the fight. The Alien should've gone on.
In fairness, full fights in classic Robot Wars lasted 5 minutes but were edited down to make the time slot. There are some battles that get painted differently from how they actually were by the TV edit. One example of this is King Buxton vs Robodoc in Series 2; King B appears to dominant the fight onscreen with little to no offensive action from Robodoc. According to Phil Brett from the King B team though, it was actually a really close fight that the Judges took 10 minutes to decide on. Aside from that, I feel even based on the TV version that the melee was close, but ultimately ended in the right decision. Sir Chromalot & GBH 2 got a similar amount of attacks in (a lot of bumping/shoving and the same amount of flips/lifts) and spent about the same amount of time being punished (with GBH 2 taking more damage) What swings it in Sir Chromalot’s favour for me is that it KOed ICU. Shredder vs The Alien looked pretty close to me as well, until the end. The Alien may have gotten a few more meaningful shoves in during the early-mid portions of the battle, but they were both consistently at each others throats. Once Shredder escaped from Shunt with 1 minute to go though, it absolutely gained the upper hand, getting several rams in while the Alien slowed down and even retreated a few times.
There is something about Armadrillo that makes it so... dull, for some reason. I mean, it is not the worst Series 6 machine, but similar to Colossus, has nothing that really makes it stand out from the rest of the competitors.

I disagree. I think you make a good point about the weapon but other robots have won in the past with broken weapons. I think it’s ridiculous that the judges made that exception for Sir Chromalot, they were immobilised….simple as. I’d be okay with letting them go through if the judges ordered them to attempt to self right within 30 seconds but if they could not, I would have said “out!” Sometimes I think the judges let robots win who were immobilised but because they were immobilised at the tail end of fights, they didn’t humour where the battle was headed. For example I’d have argued in series 5, Bigger brother were heading for immobilisation and that they didn’t have full control(they were spinning on the spot at the end and in series 4 they penalised Suicidal tendencies for that) but rather than do the right thing and overrule the pit thing, they just were like “It’s fine” and bigger brother were not in a good state for the final, it was barely moving and the flipper barely worked whereas hypnodisc were fighting fit.

Its odd to say now but Sir Chromolot had a decent design and if they had better speed and a more serious driver they could have done better.
