Whatever the deal about who's to blame for their problems, the end result of their collaboration together with Roth is undeniable and unmatched. Legendary music was created!
It’s to bad that it took a name of a band to break up !!
The Sammy era was as great! And any VH fan who doesn't get it is a numb nut...❤ from France
unmatched? there were plenty that did it better than him. Plant, Mercury, Daltrey, etc. etc. dlr was a clown.
Chemistry comes with volatility. Eddie clashed with Dave over the creative direction of VH. They had some great moments though. Fair Warning was good. Of course 1984
@@adrianpoesiatFair Warning is good.
Every time I see Diamond Dave these days, he's dressed like Farmer Dave.
He looks like my Accountant Dave... David Horowitz personal finance and LLC specialties
Well, he was born in Indiana
He has sheep dogs. The man is more than music!
He doesn't need brioni suits which easily can afford.
Lol. JazzyT.
He sounds just so funny, and having a good time, love Dave!!
David sure had a very energetic on stage persona that equaled EVH guitar prowess!! And made the band look like they were having a blast, the time of their life!!!
Sejrec56 * Van Halen was the ultimate "Party band" & ultimate "feel good band". Bar none.
that's a great point. He really was a great showman for VH. totally conveyed the vibe you just described. perfect timing for the mtv generation.
He could have NOT screwed Mike out of royalties in the process
All of that talent and crazy energy, creativity, tension and ego etc.etc. was necessary to create some of the most incredible music ever produced.
DLR was not in Metallica
Well said brother!
Well said!!!!
You get it!

So true. The bands that understand that and can channel it properly (never easy but worth the effort) have long successful careers together.
no, many bands and groups of people manages to work together doing a good job, VH achievement was doing a great job DESPITE not getting along
uh....
Could you imagine hanging out with Dave for a weekend? Come Sunday night I'd be reflecting on it thinking, what in the holy hell just went on??
I’d probably die. I came to learn with experience that for reasons unknown some humans have a supernatural constitution. Their bodies can withstand acute drug toxicity that would kill the average human being, and they can do it night after night. Don’t mistake it for acquired tolerance either, it’s something else.
No I think by the end of the first night I would want to kill him.
It would’ve been exhausting
I agree 1000%. He's really outttttt thereeeee most of the time. Its kindof hard to imagine though that if his daddy wouldn't have had money to buy Roth a PA system,we likely would not have had a clue who the hell David Lee Roth even was & more importantly who Van Halen was. So eventhough I've found him to be not so talented in the vocal arena, his position in the band may very well have been one of the primary reasons why Van Halen took off like they did.Even on Van Halens most recent tour with DLR in tow,his dressing room had to be as far away as possible from the other members dressing rooms,so he's still an a****** to this day and he still has to feel like he's the star of the show, otherwise he doesn't take part in a tour. His 70's/80's good looks and stage showmanship were the only two reasons he was ever good for Van Halen because nothing else he done/had was worth a ****.
I watched an interview with his sister, and she said Dave is 100% different in private. The cameras see him, and he totally changes. People that dealt with him when he was an EMT said the same.
Can you imagine hanging out with DLR that much? I'd be exhausted..
He’d drain all your energy in 5 minutes!
@@jackwezesa1081energy vampire
Roth suffers from severe LSD. That being said, he is ten times the front man as Axl Rose. Dave broke his nose with a mic stand while on stage, got his nose bandaged and continued the show. Axl would walk off of stage every time he had a menstrual cycle.
There's no need to hyper-focus on relations within the band. They went through the same strains that any band goes through when under pressure to write, perform and everything else that goes along with being in a band... while being in each other's faces for many long hours each day. It's rare when a band *doesn't* go through it.
Dave is such a beautiful human being what a guy...hope the very best for him.✌
He’s washed up and even more brain dead than before. 😂
@@listenupfoolio-mx8metakes one to know one huh??😂😂
I've never seen an angry face on this man!!😁
I wish Mr Roth all the beautiful music and enjoyable days. He’s made a big contribution to our entertainment. He’s done a good job. I’d like to thank him.
The best part of DLR, is when he was an EMT, when they would back the Ambulance into the E.R. bay, Dave would kick the back door of the transport open, a cloud of dry-ice fog would peel out, he would jump out of the cloud, land in the splits, point his thumb over his left shoulder and say "Somebody Get me a Doctor! Somebody give the Patient a Shot!!". It's true.
I like to remember them as they were, not as they are. It's was beautiful for a short time. I was there.
Absolutely
Dave looking like a TV cartoon host
You make fun of him but let the man dress the F like he wants. Dude, you think he'd look good still dressing up in torn 80's attire now in his 60's ? We all evolve.
Imagine how epic your summers have to be if you gauge the passing of time by counting them
People say he's full of himself but .. and I quote: " Whether we've made a contribution, that's for YOU to decide!" Right-the-f***-ONNNN. 💜
This might be the most truthful this man has been other than the interview with the beret and leaning on a wall he says 30 years back the reporter says something we’re you fired or quit he say he was fired they say he bailed I just know I’m glad they came together before Eddie passed an did a different kind of truth
The best front man to ever do it. The best guitarist to ever do it. The best drummer to ever do it. The best rock band to ever do it
You’re absolutely right, I live Led Zepp! 😂
@@skwak3041 yup, led zepp
yup LED zepp
And the best bassist to ever do it
You’re describing Led Zeppelin.
Legendary band. Legendary performers. Just glad they were around in my lifetime
DLR..... The best rock n roll front man ever. The debate over who was the best singer in rock will go on til we are all dead. But as far as FRONT MAN, nobody, NOBODY was better than diamond dave
I think Paul Rodgers( Bad Co), Ronnie James Dio wouldlaughat your remark and most classic rock lovers that know real rock vocalists will agree!
He went from Rockstar to corn farmer from Iowa.
He is, at this core, just a guy from Indiana.
@emirparkreiner7801 when they play Indiana, he always talks about being from Bloomington and spending a lot of time on his grandfather's farm in New Castle.
Loves David’s care free attitude.
Hell, yeah They made a contribution !!!
I don't think I have ever heard a better and more humbling description of a rock n roll life. I would say in my opinion you definitely made a contribution my friend.
It's seems weird how there was a huge wave of sentiment to hold concerts for Taylor Hawkins but not EVH. Not slamming Hawkins; just surprised at the turn of events.
Maybe the reason could be that most know that Dave is the singular hold out of anything regarding Vanhalen going forward. Dave is a complex personality. Humorous and cracking jokes, but in business can be pretty difficult to work with.
@@WhizMitchell I would have thought there would have been artists playing a memorial gig even without DLR. Getting those remaining members together is about a hopeless case at this point.
Everyone loves a loser and that drug addict was one of them. Edward was a whole different thing.
His smile is so contagious 😊
David made it look easy. EDDIE was brilliant. The first 4 albums were amazing. Al and Mike were the heartbeat/ massive turbine driving that band. Perfect timing, guys. I saw Led Zep, Floyd , Stones, and Ramones, and these guys Turned it up past 11 and made rock n roll fun.. BEING DLR was, is, and always will be uniquely exhausting for the quick-witted and extremely hyper " Hold on tightly." You rock, Dave
They weren't the first ones to turn it up past 11. KISS was a powerhouse in the 70's. Got kicked off the Sabbath tour because they were just monsters. Zeppelin and Queen refused to have KISS open fkr them. KISS destroyed everyone live and then VH came in and picked up on KISS' vibe and continued on
With all the disfunction in Van Halen, they still created some of the greatest music in the history of Rock and Roll! Just an incredible contribution by all members of The Mighty Van Halen!!!
The problem with Roth is that his onstage persona is exactly who he is in real life. Cobain could sing about depression so authentically because it was his reality. Axl Rose sang about angst and violence, and every Guns n Roses show ended in a riot during the 90's. Some performers can not separate art from life, and the consequences are devastating.
Why do you consider that a problem?
@@jmm1817 Because Cobain killed himself, Axl tore the band apart and destroyed their career, and nobody in VH could stand to be in the room with Roth for more than 5 minutes. If you live inside that performer persona 24 hrs a day you'll eventually destroy everything.
@@stringtheoryguitars4952 Dave and Alex talk to each other on the phone daily and have so for years . I’ll admit DLR can be annoying but whether the Eddie worshipers admit or not there would be no VH without DLR people forget DLR wrote the lyrics to those great songs from 78-84. Eddie loved Dave team Sammy won’t agree but Dave was the third VH brother.
@@stringtheoryguitars4952 performer persona? I think Roth is just Roth on stage or off. He was probably definitely hard to get along with that's for sure that's but that's art and what makes great music
LOVE DLR!!!!!
The Van Hagar years suck ASS bro!
DLR is a pistol bro! He is lightning in a bottle, hard to handle, and impossible to control! The dude is out of his Phukin mind, and ya know what? I dig TF out of it!
He is who he is, and doesn't sugar coat it, or apologize for it! That is what makes Dave so special!
I invited DLR up to this place I had for a month on Panama City Beach Fl a couple years back for a month. (no homo, just so we all are clear) Never heard from him, but wished he would have shown up. Place was Dope AF! 20th floor Gulf Front, wrap around balcony, 3br, 3 bath, place was sick!
Still had a great time, but wanted to give Dave a VIP trip, but did not hear back from him.
Cheers fellow DLR fans!

Well whatever conflict it created some magic. I’m thankful for it.
That conflict is what makes for amazing work.
How many bands have put out masterpieces while in the background they can’t stand each other.
When ever I refer to “wild” I always say, “wild like David Lee Roth”.
He hit the wall really hard.
Dave’s a great front man 🤘
When Talent Clash it's a Bash.
Being different made them diverse and great. It also ended them eventually.
Diamond Dave is the best to ever do it and Van Halen is the funkiest rock in roll band ever!!! Unmatched rock gods!!!
Love you Dave. Thanks for making that fucking contribution
Dave was 99% of the conflict I’m sure. Egomaniac
DLR is his own biggest fan
I have to admit that these are some wise words spoken by David Lee Roth. 😎👍🏻
Diamond Dave
I’m guessing what happened towards the end is that they got older at more mature. They basically moved past their bullshit, which is epic! 🤙
conflict always with problems 👀. 👀
Wow that whole clip and almost nothing about their conflict
In the words of Steve Martin
Here’s an idea
The next time you tell one of your stories
Have a point
It makes it so much more enjoyable for the listener

Mr. David 💎 Lee Roth 🎤 ⚡️ 🔥 💪 👊 😎
Wonderful perspective "what we've been allowed to do" very humble.
I think DLR has mellowed over the years. It comes with age, for most of us. Older, and wiser. And like fine wine and cheese, we only get better with age. He looks great!
He’s one highly intelligent person
Dave is still the MAN!
Drugs and booze didn't help.
He sang well on the first 6 albums in studio and (presumably) sober.
Alcohol (being drunk live) threw his voice way off.
@@jameslee1062 more the cigarettes
If only Eddie Van Halen could have gotten along with David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony, Van Halen would have been even bigger.
Uh , in the end Ed and Dave kissed and made up . I saw some backstage pics of the two after a D.K.O.T. show and it was like the old days .
Everyone was about love and friendship when the time sadly came . I don't know about Sammy and truly don't care . He's always come off as fake to me.
I just miss Eddie. Roth/Hagar good front men , maybe great . Eddie was the show for me.
@@wisdomseeker3362 - gotta disagree about Sammy. He is who he is but he's definitely not fake. Spins things his own way of course, many superstars do the same. Dave is another one
Yeah MA is an awesome solid bass player and backing vocalist.
So much Talent God loves his people Alex Eddie Dave and Michael However the the drugs alcohol 🍸 will Tear.down the best of Men.Women. and Bands.
Thank god for Van Halen!!! The world is a better place listening to there music tunes!!!
I loved this dude
No different than the interviews with Sting and Stewart Copeland. The contrast and conflicts are part of making legendary, iconic music.
One of the best front men of all time. But, I have to imagine I’d be sick to death of him after 10 minutes.
Hard to believe Farmer Roth is the same guy as the one on those album covers.
he could be a prick.somerimes, but i still love and respect the man
Conflict can happen as long as there isn't steamroller behavior
Dave came right from his farm.
I'd like to hear his thoughts on EVH now that he's been gone.
Исключительно здоровый и счастливый человек.Молодец ,всегда в отличной форме.
His book is great.
Nice hairpiece Dave!
Diamond Dave was an amazing front man. He's very entertaining as a interview too. Living life to the fullest. 💪
“but there will come a day, when youth will pass away…” and it did. not just for Dave but me as well
DLR POSSESSES A LOVE OF LIFE, AND A VERY HIGH INTELLIGENCE LIKE NO OTHER IN AMERICAN ROCK HISTORY. DLR IS THE G.O.A.T. !!!!!
1978-1983....they slayed and conquered every city and stage. I saw the first two tours (78,79) but 1981-82 they were just mighty and the best!
Very similar to sibling rivalry it seems! I can certainly identify with that!😉👌
Whatever The RUN IN WAS MAN 😅 Diamond Dave has a dianamic personality and talent
Menudo. LOL! DLR is hilarious!
And that farmers' outfit, overalls...
The guy is a real comedian!!!
Great entertainer. Genius, really...
Dave is dressed and ready for Bob Keeshen Captain Kangaroo
I loved that show ❗
Dont forget the 🏓 !
This is old Dave shaved his head and put peroxide in the fuzz and trashed his voice
@@wisdomseeker3362 And Mr Green Jeans?? 😂😂🤣😂

Dave wouldn’t exist without Eddie
Without DLR 1978 1984 there is no Van Halen ..he named the BAND made sure they all got paid Idiot stop Chirping ...
Love you man
I will always have a soft spot ..he was so hot.we all get old it's not gonna stop for no one
He’s very smart

HI,, THERE'S MY DAVID;!! I Was having a shitty day until I came upon you on You Tube! You always make me feel better DAVE! HAVE A GREAT DAY! AND GREAT SEEING YOU! I LOVE YOUR PERSONALITY TOO!!!
This is dated, Dave has hair, now he shaved it and put peroxide on the fuzz
I will always march in David Lee Roth's army. Glad I was alive at the same time as Van Halen's first 6 albums! Long live the mighty Van Halen!
David is a diamond 💎
Brothers fight & get over it fast .
They can't even get it together for an EVH tribute show. Such a shame! Always conflict.... even in death. 🤦
LOL Dave is a unique fellow. To the rest of the world it is Eddie Van Halen. To Dave it is Edward Van Halen... gotta love it!
Me encanta este hombre!!❤️❤️❤️🥰
Dave looks like he’s taking time off from making moonshine to do the interview!
Just let it go man god bless
He has his tooth here.
lol came for this comment
I picture Dave with a white face and the next Joker in batman .
Yep. Regardless the contribution it was always Roth's way.
