  • This is arguably the most popular of Bach's 15 two-part inventions which he composed for contrapuntal composition instruction of his son Wilhelm. Some analysts call it a 'canon,' which is basically a modified 'round' with repeated contrapuntal entries & exits of a subject (Dux), but my theory instructor feels that it's a modified fugue with a "subject" (bar 1) followed by a countersubject (bar 2). I used the "fugal" description as a guide for highlighting the individual voices. It took me two months just to learn this Grade 8 Royal Conservatory piece & I found the greatest technical challenge to to be the descending scale passages of the 'countersubject' (especially the ending). The easiest sections were those beautiful parallel 6th bars Bach used between modulations.
N.B. I don't know how someone could claim a copyright on this public domain piece & the performance is no one's by my very own. A lot of these claims make no sense at all.

Wow, this sounds so delightful to listen to. I was thinking I only wish it was longer and had other variations but I just played it over and over again from beginning to end to give it the feeling that it went on forever. I hope you can start posting your musical accomplishments with more frequency because this music on the accordion just never get enough play time. But thank you for the videos you do post. From the previous comment, it looks like only the Richards have ears to hear so far.

Thank you Richard, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I agree with you,...it is a short piece & the irony of it all is that the work I put into it for 2 months resulted in a performance that was less than one minute.

Two months!!! That my friend may be unsurpassed irony. But I still believe in miracles. After all, your playing lasted 1:05 while Chopin's Minute Waltz is actually only about 42 to 46 seconds. And Chopin's accordion stood on three legs. All humor aside, while I don't pick winners or losers I'm sure there are many blessings in store for your future endeavors. Blessings.
