  • I've already posted the 1st & 3rd movements of this trailblazing composition, so I feel I should post the 2nd movement to make it complete. As with all concerti, the order of tempi goes Fast- slow- very fast so this is the slow movement. It's in ternary ABA form & opens with a reflective, melancholic theme in the A section, but the climax is a bright scherzo-like episode in a major key. Mr. Kazakov was a student of the composer & a trail-blazer in his own right. He was instrumental in designing & perfecting the mulititimbral chromatic converter bayan in the 1950s & was responsible for moving the instrument from being a folk-only instrument to one that can take part in orchestras and even a full solo recital. I, too, felt that Kazakov induced me to change my attitude to the bayan. After touring with Kazakov, the famous Armenian composer concluded, "Remaining a favorite folk instrument, the bayan is asserting itself on the peak of musical Olympus. The bayan has reached maturity and taken the place it deserves in "big music" and this should be put down to the credit of Yuri Kazakov and other likeminded musicians".

This is something of which I have never seen the like. Kazakov's mastery of his instrument is self evident and I found this very moving. I can't thank you enough for uploading this.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Lloyd. I've yet to hear anyone who can equal his musicality apart from the great Galla-Rini. They're music is so noble & unpretentious.
