  • My old Sonola standard accordion is still in repairs so I'm playing on free-bass exclusively for now. Muzio Clementi was an Italian-born concert pianist, composer, publisher, educator & piano manufacturer who spent a large part of his life in England. It is said that he was the very first piano concert specialist as the age of the harpsichord was coming to an end. Interestingly, he was invited to a piano competition with Mozart before the court of the German Emperor Joseph II in 1781 which the Emperor graciously called a tie. Most of you are familiar with Clementi's famous C major sonatina whereas this one is a bit more advanced at the Grade 6 or 7 level. It's the Rondo 3rd movement from his Op. 36, no. 5 sonatina & is in the form of a modified French Rondo in ABACABA form. The popularity of his works has established them as a fundamental part of the piano repertoire & many of them are easily transcribed for free-bass accordion. Note that in measure 83 I make use of the extended right-hand keyboard when the short descending scale passage calls for a low 'E.'
