This Scarlatti sonata has such emotional potential that the performer brings out, that if Scarlatti were to hear it, he would probably faint. You simply can’t have comparable dynamics on a harpsichord. I’m sure that the Wanda Landowski and GlennGould aficionados are horrified - playing Scarlatti in a modern/late romantic style! Heavens! But for the rest of us, it is sublime.
it is so unfortunate that most people still do not know that Scarlatti played both types of harpsichords namely cembali di penna (feather quill) and cembali di martelletti (with hammers) that is early pianoforte.
To be up front: I have come to regard Scarlatti as the greatest composer, though I remain extremely fond of Bach and Mozart. But for me, Scarlatti is just in a different world.
I was just thinking of learning some Scarlatti. This is now number one on the list. I have never heard this sonata played this way. Dear Domenico, please forgive me in advance!
- SCARLATTI, K. 466 - You can't see it. Nobody can. You'd never even guess. Nobody could because - well, you see, the thing is ... I"m crying from the Inside Out. What a cruel thing to do, Domenico - To make an Old Man Cry. It's a Lovely type of Cruelty, though - and so I forgive you, and I thank you because - well, you see, the thing is ... Right now - at this very Moment, I needed those Heavenly Tears.
Great playing! I know how to play this piece, but I still work on it to improve my playing. I learned a lot from this performance, there are tons of idea that I can copy! For me this is the best K.466!
Wow! Thank You! You are a great inspiration for the beauty of perfectly shaped phrasing. I can't wait to dig out my Scarlatti and set to work on expressing some of what you do. You are such a gift. And I also admire your compositions!
@neversayneveragain3748 Nope. I've listened to other beautiful pieces, and they made me tearful. I'm not going to say my exact age, but I'm just going to say that I'm not old.
I just started studying this piece last week, after recently discovering Scarlatti. I love his compositions! They are such fun to learn. This performance is really nice. Maybe not so Baroquish, but still lovely.
Distile, fermente, dingin duygular...
I love Tiffany Poon's delicacy and sensibility, but the best rendition of this piece, to me, is the one of Yuja Wang. Unfortunately, there is only an audio version available on RUclips...
@@amanoutetue-miche6591 Everyone to their own taste. I have heard good things about Ms. Wang’s playing, and since it’s audio only, perhaps I’ll give it a try. I generally prefer my musicians fully clothed.
@@mencken8 🤣🤣🤣 does a bare leg or shoulder scare you? This woman doesn't give a damn about susceptibility of prudish people like you, and she's perfectly right! Poor you 😂
Like I think instead of making such face impression and whispers (to spice the performance up) he could at least play correctly not changing the dynamics. You can reply hateful comments, but to other musicians it’s just pathetically unfair to overestimate mediocre musicians
I respect the pianist’s effort but I didn’t like the interpretation at all, it was mediocre and I believe lots of unknown musicians can play this piece way better. Warner need to find them instead of overestimating mediocre musicians
Fazil's performance here is absolutely so beautifully tender. Trills to die for. My favorite interpretation ever.
IMO,, with this performance Fasil Say now OWNS Scarlatti, K. 466.
Since he is also a composer it makes difference
I love how baroque music can be interpreted so many different ways

music is romantic, and emotion, this is.

Wonderful Scarlatti, wonderful Fazıl Say ! Bravo !
Most exquisite interpretation of K.466 ever.

Sin duda la mejor composición de Sacarlatti. Tremendamente hermosa.
Just incredible, such a sublime rendition, so diverse and well built up at the same time
Diverse? What the hell is that supposed to mean?
en sevdigim sonata !!!!! çok mutluyum su an
Fazil, you are my biggest inspiration for my playing AND composing. Thank you for this sublime performance.❤
Grazie ❤
Tears drop where Fazil whispers.
As far as spirit can go, this is magic
Saludos de Chile a gran Compositor y a gran Pianista

Nothing wrong in those emotions, particularly played in such exquisite way
Glenn Gould doesn’t play Scarlatti Bach or Beethoven he plays Glenn Gould

Spellbinding!
Fazıl Say, seni dinlemek seninle aynı ülkede yaşıyor olmak tanrının bir lütfu...
A great pianist and composer 👌
Yes.
heartbreaking, wonderful!
Pure poetry!
Grande Fazil, tocco stupendo.
Only 2077 kids remember this 😢😊
Me encanta. Trabajo en ella
Grazie.
Cok guzel. Tesekkurler!!
If Domenico had lived 100 years later...
Yet here he is still being played 300 years later. His music is for all time, all interpretations.
Wladimir Horowitz could not have done it better. And he was one the greatest Scarlatti interpreters of all times.
Bravo B
Horowitz version is great too ! But this one IS awesomely beautiful
hayatımda dinlediğim en şahane parçalardan biri.

this musicalité is wonderful
I believe Keith Jarrett's Paris concert was inspired by this song.
