    What about Tolkien stands out to you the most in the category of "badass"?
    Also, I realized I didn't pronounce his name right, which will likely drive real fans to the brink of insanity. It's the common pronunciation I knew growing up, and would have come off as a little Martha Steward pretentious to pronounce it properly.

I am smiling now as I imagine his response to being described by the vulgar slang term "badass". Of all of Tolkien's characters, who would use a term like "badass"? Bill Ferny perhaps.

    So where was your point here? All I got from this video is that you appear to think in a very simplistic way about the world, or that you can only portray your thoughts very simplisticly. Using basic phrases like "Grow a pair", calling people losers for not knowing of an author's work, and calling yourself a "little pussy boy" are insulting next to the messages and literary work of Tolkien. You meandered and wandered blindly in your words with a string of stock, dramatic music and vaguely connected clips of "masculine" things mixed with art from Tolkein's work as though it had some meaning to it. And vague is the perfect word to describe your message. What storm on the horizon are you so afraid to name outright? Why do you need to insist that I need to "hang in there" with you because your point will "all make sense and tie back in at the end."? If you had actual convictions against a form of evil in the world, and wanted the men of this world to know it, you would say it. Instead, you flash random snippets of video involving what appear to be queer in one way or another and then never address why they are there, and you show a clip of the American flag burning to garner sympathy for whatever it is you're trying to say. If you are so afraid to speak your mind plainly for all to judge it as they see fit, then you should reasses what you're trying to say, and speak it forthrightly because you see it as needed to be said. Don't ever use the name of a great man to justify your inability to articulate a flawed belief. I'm not for indoctrination, or brainwashing, or the softening of the world, I respect strong willed individuals. You have proven yourself to be subversive, indirect, and weak to deceive people searching for genuine purpose, and if that isn't in line with Tolkein's idea of evil, I don't know what is. You're like Wormtongue, poisoning the mind of the great king Theodin to bring the downfall of his kingdom, Rohan. Don't use Tolkein's name and greatness to portray your flawed movement as good or just, when you can't even articulate what you believe plainly. It's insulting, and deserves to be squashed in contempt for being so tonedeaf in its message. You can have your beliefs, I can't take them from you, but have the decency to not disguise them when convincing others to believe them too. It's cowardly, and nothing like what a strong willed man who you seem to think you are would do. Go back to the shadow, such ugly behavior only belongs in the dark, where evil things skulk and hide from the light of truth, and honesty. You are only one of millions of repulsive fools in this world for such behavior

    • @Jason-Calhoun
      @Jason-Calhoun  2 года назад +3

      So, wait what was your point here? Kidding. Actually I liked your comment. Most of it. I’d normally ignore comments like this, but I actually think there’s a lot of truth in your reply. I do think you come on a little strong, but I do appreciate the well thought out response, and the directness of it, although it does feel like you wanted to highlight your passion and clear skill in writing maybe more than the meaning behind the message itself, but either way, i think you’re probably right.

    • @Jason-Calhoun

      As a side thought, one area I think you didn’t think about was why I created the video, and the strategy behind it. I’ll admit, I don’t have much of a strategy, but I do have reasons for not pushing too hard into what I see as the evil, mainly RUclips algorithm. I think most people watching understand where I’m pointing.

    Actually it started much earlier than the 1930's. Tolkien said in leter 131 to his publisher something like "I can't recall a time when I was not working on it." Even at age 6 he began tinkering with the invention of new languages, and it was that work that led him to the creation of histories behind those languages. It was truly a lifelong passion for him, and The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings are his gifts to us as a result.

    I've always urged my children to simply THINK, and to think for THEMSELVES. Not to follow blindly some mob, but to think enough to understand WHY they believe as they do, and to be sure they are doing that for good reasons. By and large I believe this urging has resulted in success - I'm very proud of my children and the way they manage their opinions. And they don't all agree across the board, but that is ok. I would use Tolkien's quote here too - it's not for me to DEFINE my children's minds, but to teach them and mold them into people who are capable of defining their own minds in ways that are worthy of the title "human." My job here was not to crank out five carbon copies of myself. That would be me trying to control the future weather. The mantle passes to them in time.

    This guy doesn't know the first thing about masculinity and if he did actually start to dissect it, he would soon realise that the idea of masculinity is redundant because the traits parallel exactly with what makes a good person. This dude is actively trying to bring more power to the patriarchy and twisting Tolkiens words to do so is downright shameful. Hey Jason, as you clearly highlight in this video; you've lived in a bubble for far too long and have such a surface level interpretation of what you try your hardest to sound informed on. Actually the Elves were doomed to fade right from the start - before their misdeeds. They were eternally bound to Arda - to the world. The didn't age, they didn't succumb to disease, and even if they were slain their spirits were not freed from Arda. They went to the Halls of Mados for a time and then were reembodied. They might then live in Valinor with the Valar, but in some cases were sent back to Middle Earth, as in the case of Glorfindel. There was no escape for them, ever.
    However, along with they were doomed to be supplanted by Man - their role was to teach and nurture Men, and then "fade" as Men came to their full fruition. For Men, it was all different. Not immortal, and when a man died, their spirit also went to the Halls of Mados, but from there, after a period, they went... somewhere else. Even the Valar didn't know where. That was a mystery Eru Illuvatar kept entirely to himself. But the Elves envied this destiny and regarded it as "the Gift of Men." They simply couldn't understand the envy that men felt toward them because of their own immortality.
    The Elves definitely committed misdeeds. And there were prices to pay for those. But none of it changed their eternal connection to Arda.

      At that point they have made their choice. Pray for the healing of their dysphoria and love them as I would hope you always have.

      Love that response. Can’t beat a hug and telling her you love her. To me, that love is there no matter what choices my kids make. They could never do anything, choose anything that could change that.
