The drum key drill bit is a godsend particularly when you're changing out all of your drums' heads, or if you're in the middle of a gig. I would love to see a smaller drill made specifically for drummers that functions like a torque wrench and can be set to finger tight, plus a variety of tunings like high, medium and low. I love my TuneBot for trying to match pitches when I want to recreate tunings like you, but as a tone chaser I try to go by what sounds good to my ear. Thanks for making these great videos! Sehr gut gemacht!!
I have a BOSCH GO 2 Cordless screwdriver and a WORX one that has torque settings... I put them on the lowest, and lugs are about finger tight... So these items exist. Hope that helps?
Highly recommend the Snareweight "Speedy" Drumkey. It's got a fine housing with magnets like the Remo one PLUS a plastic side you can flip over and park over your lug while playing and it's not ratelling at all. Plus the Key is very sensitive yet heavy and precise aswell.
Tune bot is great for lug matching especially on imperfect drum. The drum dial is great for finding a drums problem. That could be the bearing edge, the hoop, or the head itself. Drumdial has a video that shows after setting with their tool the pitch at each lug is identical. Unfortunately for me, when I tune all lugs to match each other tone wise the tension readings are different. To minimize this I check the hoops and heads for flatness prior to installation.
This definitely helps. The other day I was changing drumheads on the floor tom and accidentally put the wrong drumhead on the top (Remo pinstripe) and what I wanted to put was the Remo coated emperor on top, and the pinstripe on bottom. I’ll go look for a drum key drill thingy
One thing, especially for beginners: Take your time and experiment! What relations of batter and reso will yield what sound? And what does relation A sound in room B and room C? Make the bass drum super dead, tune it up and let it get more resonant. Try to reproduce sounds of your favorite songs. Tunebot and Drumdial are wonderful tools to (quickly) reproduce your sound every time. But to find your sound, or the sound fitting for the song/occasion you have to experiment.
Great video. Sometimes it helps to tune a screw a little step down. Same like to tune a guitar string. Just a little bit down. Get below and try again to reach your target. If you above your target it will not help to get just back. Will not stay in tune at playing.
All you need is.a drum key, and your ear.thats it. It's not time consuming. If you have even a half a wit about you and mechanical understanding you can change a head in about a minute n a half
I just changed my bass drum's head with only my drum key & it was a piece of cake !!

I wish someone would've thought about this in the 70s!!! It would have saved me untold hours in wrist busting!
