Not true. My 98 ram was a stick and it got jacked in houston.
this is a stupid narrative to keep pushing. if you own an EM1 Si or a CRX or something, and a thief actually wants it, owning stick isn't gonna stop it from being taken. the most it will stop is teenage joyriders (your gears are gonna get fucked if they decide to go faster than 1st gear will allow them). that's it. sticks won't stop actual car thieves
fast, informative, and you guys did a very clean and professional job on those electrical connections. so many "how to install a tach" vids ive seen are sloppy and careless. Thank you guys. good show

Then again he also has a boost gauge but no turbo LOL.
whats so funny about a boost gauge in a non turbo car?

There is no way this video is 12 years old. I remember wiring up the tachometer on my 78 ford when I was 15(24 now) and watched this for help. Almost 9 years of mcm for me. Absolutely crazy!
It makes the video way funnier if you think of tacos everytime he says tacho XD

Go to Taco Bell, and buy a taco, place it on your dash

I don't get it. So this mod is illegal in Australia because of "view obstruction", but drinking and driving is totally legit?

For some cars you can put the RPM signal wire from the gauge into the OBD port in the IG slot, It worked for me
+Melted Record Visuals & Mixes no not ecu, if you have kik or something I can send you a pic of it
If in doubt check your wiring diagram. If you can't work it out, do the whole install then pay an auto electrician to do the rev wire for you.

thanks so the spark plug is used to tell the revs of the engine and i have to make sure i get one with three wires

1:30 THANKS MARTY AND MOOG! I got a 1986 Dodge Ram 50 4g54 2.6L (Mitsubishi L200 where you guys are from) and Im getting her running for the first time in 7 years. I got it started and the tach is not reading ... My coil looks a tad rusty and im wonder about cleaning the LEFT TERMINAL or just replacing with new. I HOPE THIS WORKS. Once again yall come in CLUTCH. THANKS OLD MCM VIDEO!!
not all car manufacturers has the same wiring color codes... not all tacho are electronic... some tacho are cable driven tacho..

Well with a few simple parts you can get off of ebay including: a GPS to locate taco stands, a large guage to show when you are getting close to a taco stand, an led alarm light to let you know when you have located a taco, then some wiring and a soldering iron to help you install it in your car.

Damn - I was about to sell the AUDI for the Hyundai+Tacho combo. It's good that everything on the internet is real and trustworthy and there for the greater benefit of society. I almost made a huge mistake!

14 years later and I just had someone bring this same gauge in the shop for install 😂🤣
On the dragstrip with a high revving engine it might be useful with a tach that size but for everyday driving, one that goes up to 6-7k rpm and in-dash small size would be enough if even necessary.

the flames on it give you a extra 30kw!!!
I need a bigger one because you can read the rpm in a shorter amount of time compared to the little one inbuilt in the dash. And It looks quite cool tbh!
You need to disconnect the battery when working on electrical. Soldering irons inject small voltages into the wire you are soldering, which may or may not be protected.
How do soldering irons "inject voltage"?The only issue you might have is if you are using a cheap 2$ iron that isnt properly grounded and you get a static shock.
You are both morons. A) Soldering iron tips are referenced directly to earth. B) They do not "inject" voltages .... if yours does, next time don't buy an iron from the dollar store C) If the iron wasn't grounded, how would that in any way cause you to get a static shock? That doesn't make any sense.

lol,you might want to go reeducate yourself then.You'll soon realize that just because something is grounded with a 3 prong plug that it doesnt automatically make it esd safe.There is still a potential for damage caused by a difference in electrical potential that could exist between the iron and whatever you're working on.But hey I'm so sure that you already knew that.
Oh and you might also want to read my original comment again since reading comprehension has failed you.Because as you so gracefully pointed out how a cheap dollar store iron that isnt grounded could be a problem.Or was my answer wrong because I said 2$ iron??Instead of dollar store?

Signal wire to the - on the ignition coil
depends where you install it, if it "obstructs" your view, it might be illegal, so install it away from the windshield
It's a device that measures the size of your taco so you know how fast you can safely eat it. If you eat it too fast the taco will possibly break and explode.

The yellow things are heat shrink. It just covers the wire so the bear wire won't short out on anything. The tool he has is a wire stripper.
all u have to do for the tacho signal is look in the fusebox and look for the guage/guages fuse pull the fuse out. push the wire in and replace the fuse

wire you're looking for should be coming from coil, not distributor.
have you got a workshop manual? look in a workshop manual at the wiring diagrams and look for the instrument cluster, should be a wire for tacho somewhere.
Most cars are pre-equipped with the wiring for a tacho behind the instrument cluster (even if your model was never equipped with one), just have to get a wiring diagram and find out which ones.
rigid one to my 88 toyota pick up 4x4, looks mad. It didnt have a tachometer so its also practical.

i beg to differ with that Hyundai thing. I have 2 a 2014 genisis coupe v6 and a 2002 Elantra GT with a 4G63 pushing 17psi and 430hp at the wheels, and she looks mostly stock. I have surprised a few Porsche's, BMW's and pretty much anyone who raced me with that car.

Amen to this. It's sad as an American, I can't buy a decent Ford or GM product at a affordable price. Hell, I went with Honda because they're cheaper, hold their value, and I get peppy power at a low cost. Plus I can get parts for my '05 from a wrecked '03 civic. American car markers should take note.

Aesthetic, better viewpoint (preference) or in my case, your stock tacho doesn't work. It may be more accurate if it's anything like an aftermarket boost gauge.
@FiveStarFilmz you can always install an shift light. Saves you all the trouble. ;)
I can shift nicely until my sound system is on higher volume. The sub runs louder than the engine if you hear music with a lot of beats, thats why i would prefer external rpm gauges. Its just a personal preference, no need to get offensive here

set the ;little knob to your shift to the rpms you want to shift at

@Jashomartin Pretty much anywhere that sells gauges? You don't need a huge one with a shift light etc, you can get small ones that just have the needle, like a normal tacho, or you can get those monster tach's with the shift lights etc, which no one really needs cos' if you don't know when to change gear on the street, well, enough said.

I have an 82 suzuki sierra, no ECU, no fuel injection, hardly any electrics. They said something about a negative point from the distributor, what am I looking for to wire up the tachometer?

some crown vics up untill a few years ago didnt have em..also a ton of cars from the 80s n 90s didnt have em unless they were somewhat sporty cars

Ok but im pretty sure your probable Saxo doesnt need gauges, i personally think its just as quick to just read the normal gauge but to each his own... i guess...
Can you install a Taco gauge on your mad diahatsu? It's like a shift light, but it turns on when your tacos are ready at the other side of the drive thru
@SmashOut200 The Hyundai Genesis is cool straight from the factory. RWD, the base models are turboed, and the high end have a beefy V6. I'll take one if you don't think it's cool. lol
