Wild Camping on the Tallest Mountain in The Cambrian Range | Pumlumon Fawr
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 июл 2024
- I returned to the Cambrian Mountains to explore Pumlumon and the surrounding areas. I hiked along some of the Pumlumon Fawr's Five Trails, spent a night camped on the summit of Pumlumon Fach, and visited the source of the Severn. On my second day, I hiked some more of the trails until I reached The Wye Valley Walk, where I spent the night camped next to a river.
Thanks for stopping by,
Ryan.

Your videos are a real tonic for the soul, Toby really did win the dog lottery. Superb. Just superb, and the end is brilliant.
That's nice to hear, John. Thank you and thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Those views! My fave part of the world. Quality videos 👌👏
Stunning scenery! Thanks for making these videos, Ryan. I really enjoy watching you and Toby hiking around Wales. Lovely shots, as always.
No need to thank me, mate, I'm just doing what I love. Thank you for the positive comments, bud. All the best to you!
Glad to see Toby make it on this one, he should be on Britains got talent, walking through the lift up sty easy part, leaping big puddle, fell in, just carried on, over the high walk and through the metal grid, and you could be paid for guide on these walks, now you have walked the walk, have fun always enjoyable to watch
Peter
And
Lucky
The
12 year old
Boxer Dog
Thank you, Peter. It's a much better outing with Toby by my side. He's the same age as your Lucky, so he's doing pretty good with the obstacles for an old boy. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Sorry I laughed when you said bastard at the end 😂
Ha ha, no worries, I think everyone has laughed so far. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Superb film making.
Thank you, David. ATB, Ryan.
Simply stunning Ryan! Dear Toby scampering around having a fine time with his best mate! That sunset and sunrise was epic, funny to think it was the opposite end of the days here! Your instincts and planning serve you well, such a serene and scenic camp! Thanks for sharing with us, including the outtake at the end!😊
Thank you, Amanda. It was a special night camped on the summit with such great views. Thanks for watching. Atb, Ryan.
Toby is so good with obstacles fair play to him xxx
He's one of a kind, Debra. Thank you for watching. ATB, Ryan.
What a cracking video Ryan, we have walked little bits of this and yes it's beautiful. Toby seemed to love it. Brilliant camera work again, unlucky with the stream crossing at the end, Reckon we've all been there and able to laugh after. Keep them coming. 😊 thanks.
Thank you, Neil. Yes, it's a beautiful area, we had a great time. Better fall in at the end, rather than the start. Thanks for watching, mate. ATB, Ryan.
Thankyou Ryan again totally awesome..... Shows what a sport you are leaving your fall in at the end 😂
Thanks, Ian. It had to be left in, a good ending to the trip, ha ha
Absolutely cracking vlog again.
I have to admit I might be going to hell for laughing at the tumble at the beginning and end mate. 😂
Thank you, mate. Ha ha, no worries at all, I was laughing at it myself. Diolch!
Cracking ending 😂
It wasn't the ending I had planned 😂 thanks for watching, mate
Yep enjoyed really good 👍🩵💙🩵
Nice one, Carla. Thanks from us both!
Inspirational stuff once more, lovely video. 👍🏴🥃
Thank you, Ben. Glad you enjoyed, mate 👍🏼
Love watching your adventures Ryan, you take us through some beautiful landscape with some great footage. The sunrise that morning and those views were amazing. Nicely done getting back on your feet at the end, Toby’s probably wondering what the hell happened 😂. ATB Serk
Thanks once again, Serk. It's nice to hear how much you're enjoying our adventures. It was a special night upon that summit, we both enjoyed that one. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Great video! Beautiful sunsets and sunrises! Great to see Toby enjoying the hike with you. Some great scenery throughout the video. Ha! Loved the little take out at the end with you almost falling in the creek.
Thank you, Chris. We were treated to some great scenery on this one, I'm looking forward to getting back up there. Hope you're good and well. ATB, Ryan.
First class as always. Amazing part of the country with great shots. Loved the final scene 😂 Well done, Ry ❤

Brilliant! Great video Rye.
Toby made me laugh sitting in that stream too
5 *
Ha ha, thank you, mate! I think he stopped in every stream we passed, it was nice he could cool off. Thanks for watching, bud.
Cracking scenery mate ,another good vid..Toby is in his element 😆👍
He loves it, Alan. Thank you, mate.
Thank you so much for this video mate, you captured the beuty and remoteness of this place perfectly, jst inspires me to get back even more, and not to mention that ending was epic,we've all been there havent we,i suppose sometimes filming the perfect river crossing doesnt always go to plan, thanks again mate and look forward to your next 1.👍
That was the final shot of the day too, ha ha. Thanks once again for the positive feedback, mate. ATB, Ryan.
Another great informative video mate, stunning timelapse and a classic stumble at the end……”bastard”😂😂
Cheers, bud. It was a great little adventure up there. Glad you enjoyed my final dip 😂
Great video again Ryan 👏
Cheers, Robert. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Beautiful video, ❤ Toby such a chilled out dog. Lovely area. Many thanks Ryan for sharing.
Thank you for watching. It was a beautiful camp, we both enjoyed this one. ATB, Ryan.
Camped there quite a few times with Dai kelly camp n wild with the dragon and Darren. It is indeed, a spectacular spot, and the glacial llyn is beautiful too, not too many people there either; although, when we first camped there.. 20-odd off road motorbikers were there as it's a huge off road scramble area.
I watched the one where the three of you camped by the lake. It's a great video that one, Dai shot some incredible drone footage. It's a nice spot to camp for sure. Thanks for watching, mate.
Another great video there, you really do know how to show off the landscape with your drone footage. That spot on the first night was fantastic, the views were 👌. Hope your boots dried out in time for your next outing. Look forward to seeing what you get upto next 👍
Thank you, Glenn, I appreciate the positive feedback, mate. It was a cracking few days up there. Cheers for watching, bud
Awesome mate
Thanks, me old buddy.
Great video show me the views I missed when walking the Cambrian Way. Wet, windy and misty. Camped behind a peat hag near the source of the Severn.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed. That's one walk I've yet to do, it's been calling my name for years. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
I really enjoyed watching the video, thank you. The scenery is so so beautiful. I also like the little snippets of informationyou mention, how marvellous to spend your honeymoon night on the top of a mountain!
Thank you and thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's a beautiful part of Wales. ATB, Ryan.

Thank you, Marty! Very much appreciated. Welcome to the members club...but I've got to pull my finger out now and figure out how the members club works 😂 please be patient with me. Glad you enjoyed the video, mate. Diolch yn Fawr 👍🏼
Hey bro! Two thumbs up. One for the photography and one for Toby. Looks like a fine, healthy and mature pooch.
Thank you, Mile! Yes, he's doing pretty good for an old boy. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Great video that been fancying that area
Thanks, Nigel. It's definitely worth a visit, mate.
Not been up there for a while,Ryan. That sunset was stunning. Will have to do a camp up there. Great editing and Toby seemed to enjoy the trip too. ATB Martin
Thank you, Martin. It's definitely worth getting up there for a camp, we had a great time on this one. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Dude, that sunset was epic!
Would have been great just to have that as a live stream!
Those rolling hills were amazing, having that even just as a desktop wallpaper would be amazing!
Just seen your pics of your recent camp on FB so hoping there's a video to accompany that!!
Loved the slip at the end...briliant!! 😄😄
Thanks, buddy! Yes, I was lucky to get those views and that sunset, it was a pretty special night. I just got home from last night's camp, what a spot. Hopefully if I have no editing issues, I'll have the video up tomorrow night. Take it easy, pal.
It's fantastic watching you and Toby having adventures even if you do get a bit wet lol xxx
All good fun, Nita, we had a great time. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Just Got back from the end of a 3 week project in Leicester and this was food for the heart and mind buddy 👏 fantastic stuff as always FairPlay!
Thank you, buddy! It was a great camp on that summit. Hope you've got a well deserved bit of time off.
Really good video that Ryan, that first summit camp was something else with that cracking sunset and sunrise. I was fortunate a couple of weeks ago to experience the same camping on the Old Man of Coniston in the lake district, fantastic!
Thank you, Sean. With all the gloomy weather we've had this year, we've got to appreciate a good sunrise/sunset. Hopefully we'll get some better weather for our future camps. Thanks for watching, mate. ATB, Ryan.
Great video well done
Thank you, Patrick and thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
What an excellent video, Ryan. Your filming and editing seem to have a unique look. With all that fantastic scenery, you have a winning video mate!
I loved that first gate with a special place for Toby to past through. I never seen that before.
Hello, Jack, thanks for the positive comments, mate. It was an amazing place to visit, we really enjoyed this one. There's quite a few of those dog gates on stiles around the Beacons, they're great for Toby as he gets older. ATB, Ryan.
Brilliant - you've been framed as they say!! Did Toby laugh or run concerned to your rescue? Another inspiring video and walk to plan in sometime. Your journeys make a hard day disappear!
Thank you, Chris, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, mate. I don't think he was concerned in the slightest to be honest, ha ha. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Great vid mate thanks
You're welcome, and thank you for watching. ATB, Ryan.
I love the quiet central Welsh mountains region. So much quieter than most areas. Although I never follow tracks or trails and always trek into wild overgrown locations where nobody goes.
I regularly eat raw garlic 🧄 and this keeps the ticks, midges and mosquito 🦟 at bay.
Nice to see you doing a back flip across the stream fully clothed! 😂
Subscribed. 😉
I have to agree, it is so very peaceful up there. I've just returned from another trip up there, and I hardly saw another soul. I've tried the garlic trick, but my missus wasn't too happy with it. Thank you for the sub, and welcome to the channel. ATB, Ryan.
@@wildaboutwales I tend to pick women that love garlic 🧄🤣
@@Globetrotter-1 😂
Loved that Ryan.
Great intro.
What a spot to pitch up. Stunning!
Toby does live like a king, he deserves it though.
You showed it so well what it's all about⛺️🌅
Wales is a beautiful place.
Nice little swimming pool for you.
Good fall at the end😂👌👏👏👍
Tell your mam not to watch the last few seconds😂😉👋
Thanks buddy, much appreciated. It's an incredible place to explore and the camp was spot on. Cheers for watching, fella. Take it easy, Ryan.
@@wildaboutwales
I'm off in a few hours to Llyn y fan fach.
Camping there for one night by the lake.
No sunset or sunrise for me today.
I just want to get out.
Looking forward to your next trip butty👍
@@JamieHarding5 nice one, mate. Have a great one and enjoy it 👌🏼
Cracking video Ryan nothing like a good camping adventure I need to start writing these places down and go explore them myself. The midges look mean after the sticks burnt out. The slip at the end 😂😂 on his arse haha atb mate 👍🏻
Thank you, mate. This is definitely one to put on your list, it's an incredible place of beauty. ATB, Ryan.
I'm gonna have to get some of them insence sticks Ryan, you proved they work. Man them views! That place! Wow need to get back up there. I noticed there was loads of spots to camp when I was there. Great editing as usual, and your fall in the river at the end was just so funny. Thanks for making me smile, the things we do for youtube ha ha. I learn so much from your channel. You have great knowledge Ryan
Thank you, Dai, much appreciated. I picked the sticks up on Amazon. I watched your video where you camped by the lake, it's incredible up there isn't it, nice and peaceful too. Cheers for watching, bud. Take it easy!
You both had fun and got wet. I like the crest/patches on your pack. You may want to consider a custom patch/crest. Diolch
Thank you, Derek. Yes, a good idea for the patch, and I will get some done soon. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
cironella insense sticks are skin so softly by Avon, the military use it, nice one both from The Rhinogs
Never heard of them, but I'm gonna take a look for some. Thank you, and thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Another great video mate, Pumlumon is on my to die list hopefully this year. It’s a real 360 up there and wow amazing sunrise and sunset over Nant Y Moch. I can imagine the dark skys were impressive too.
The fall into the river made me laugh, I did the same on the way up Pen Y Gadair Fawr in the black mountains, was at the start of a winter walk and was wet and freezing all the way up after that lol. Best wishes
Thank you, mate. Yes, I'm glad it was at the end and not as I set off, as I was drenched. It's a very special place, I really enjoyed walking the whole area - definitely one to do. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Ba$tard!!! Haha. Lovely video mate. Never been to the Cambrians. Always drove straight past to Snowdonia then back home to Caerphilly. Must try to get there soon. Thanks.
Thanks, mate, glad you enjoyed. It's most definitely worth a visit, It's a special part of Wales. ATB, Ryan.
Nice one Ryan and not forgetting Toby , what a lovely lad he is, and a credit to you and you're family 🙏. Excellent editing Ryan. Stunning and thank you I really enjoyed this adventure Ryan 👏 ATB Phil
Thanks once again, Phil. Glad you enjoyed, mate. ATB, Ryan.
Another inspiring video... thanks mate.
Thanks for watching, Lennie.
My spiritual home I'd say Ryan-it's a water world up there mate. Yeah, it's good to go off piste up at Pumlumon - get to see and feel all the gnarly stuff. The Wye intrigues you? I feel a plan coming on. Good trip. All the best. Mark
Thanks, Mark. I can see why you've got such a bond with the place, it's a very special and interesting area. Yes, I'll definitely be returning to explore some more. ATB, Ryan.
nice one
Thank you, Phil.
Lol... I had completely forgotten about that crossing the river clip you showed at the beginning - got so engrossed in the scenery... laughed my head off! Luckily it was on your way back. Those midgies at the end.. arrrgh. Beautiful scenery and thoroughly enjoyed the video. I walked Pumlumon from the Farmers CP at Eisteddfa Curig (£5 a day).. walked up the George Borrow Trail (I know it starts in a different place but can be accessed from the cp and then came back down the Bonnington Trail after going to see the Wye Valley Soure - its disappointing Ryan.. not marked unless I missed it - I scrambled down looking for a marker or something but not visible to me? Seeing this video I am even more keen to get up there and explore once I am able. atb Al
Thanks, Alan. I'm glad I didn't scramble down trying to find it then; I'll give it another bash on my next visit. I hope you'll be able to get back out and about soon so you can get up there. ATB, Ryan.
We have something in common Alan - we've both enjoyed Pumlumon. But I have to disagree - the beauty of the Wye source is that it is so unassuming - it's merely seepage and no bigger than a bowler hat as Robert Gibbings said. It's not like the Severn source with signs and walkways.
Nice video, mate, as always. I am just back from hiking and seakayaking at the Pembrokeshire coast and the Preseli Hills exploring the bluestone quarries.
Sounds fantastic, Michael. No doubt you had a great time, it's a beautiful part of Wales. Thank you for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Definitely, only I had no Toby 😢
Thank you for yet another great video. I always feel so relaxed watching them.. well done to you and Toby … 👍 love the ‘soundtrack’ too. What is it please ?
Thank you, Eileen, it's nice to hear you're enjoying the videos. We had a great time on this camp. The soundtrack is a track off RUclips Studio, called Woodshedder by Quincas Moreira (link below). ATB, Ryan.

Can I ask you. Which are the best maps to use for paths and tracks avoiding roads. Iam just starting out after watching you. I don't have a clue where to start. Cheers. Colin
I'll be honest, Colin, I've been using Ordnance Survey Maps all of my life so I can't comment on any of the other apps out there. Personally, I think Ordnance Survey is the best map you could use. You can either buy a paper map for the area you're walking in, or download the OS maps app. It's an annual subscription of £36.99 and covers the whole of the UK. You can plot your routes on there and download them before heading out. I don't know if you've done map reading before, but it will be necessary if you're using OS maps. You could maybe look at a map reading course or there's a lot of tutorials on RUclips that you could watch. You could download the OS app and use the free version to see how you get along with it before paying for a subscription. Hope this helps, mate.
Here's a link for the app: shop.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/maps/os-maps-subscriptions/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwkJm0BhBxEiwAwT1AXKsizLdzauU_JtsTMkV4pYRX0SKQMyWu7uJyHdqU5UXCmErPGM_zDhoCkpIQAvD_BwE
Any questions feel free to ask, mate.
Absolutely superb scenery, drone shots were amazing, great vid,a sub from me!
May i ask where you got your OMM bottle holders from?
Thank you very much! Cheers for the sub, and welcome to the channel. ATB, Ryan.
