Wild Camping in the Shadows of Pen y Fan
I'm sorry it's taken so long to get this video out there, but I've been busy at work and couldn't find the time to do the editing.
This camp is from last week - I walked the Storey Arms route towards the summit of Corn Du, then made a descent down to Llyn Cwm Llwch. The wind was brutal on higher ground, but once down at the glacier lake, I was protected from the wind by the surrounding mountains. It was a beautiful camp, under the shadows of Corn Du and Pen y Fan. It was however, absolutely freezing, the first real taste of winter.

After another long week of 12hr shifts I found myself needing to head back out to nature for a night under the stars. I headed to a favourite location of mine, a wooded area, next to a river. A simple camp under a tarp next to a fire. Thanks for stopping by, Ryan. #wildcampinguk #tarp #bushcraftuk Instagram: wild.aboutwales?igsh=NzFmbTkydjF4a2xu Facebook: ryan.owen.14...
ALL YOU NEED: A TARP, 3 PEGS, AND A LENGTH OF CORD
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.28 дней назад
In this video I demonstrate how to set up a plough point tarp configuration using the DD Tarps 3.5 x 3.5. The plough point is one of my favourite tarp set ups, it's quick to set up, it offers good protection from bad weather, it gives you plenty of room under the tarp, and all you need is a tarp, 3 pegs, and a length of cord. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll help if I can. I...
A Quick Plough Point Tarp Set Up to Escape Heavy Rain.

As soon as I heard we were having heavy rain, I headed straight out to a favourite spot of mine in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park to do a tarp camp. I enjoyed a cosy night listening to the rain, whilst sat by the fire enjoying some good food and an Irish coffee. Thanks for stopping by, Ryan. #wildcampinguk #tarp #campingintherain Instagram: wild.aboutwales?igsh=NzFmbTkydjF4a...

A Simple but Effective Tarp Set Up | One Tarp Two Configurations
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 месяца назад
A simple but effective tarp set up which is also great for beginners. In this video I set my OEX Bush Pro tarp up in an A-frame configuration, leaving long guy lines which are tied with a taut-lune hitch knot - this allows you to change the configuration for an open shelter. I attached the tarp to the ridge line using prusik knots, you can however just drape the tarp over the ridgeline, this wo...

Good evening Ryan. I just found your channel by IG suggestion. What a nice camp. Have fun and stay safe.

Very inspiring mate 💓👍
Absolute class video mate stunning part of the world wales is we spoilt for choice here nice little tribute to Tommy aswel I never heard of it before watching this video
That’s a very sad story at the end of your video. The nent looks good. My wife is always telling me about a school trip she went on and had the walk up Pen y Fan. She got blisters, very sore point and that was 55 years ago. Keep up the good work. Phil. 🇬🇧
Another brilliant camp by the looks of it. Ah it's gutting when you got a place in mind but someone gets there before you, isn't it 🤣 it happened to me the other week up North Wales lol. Wow that ginger bread latte looked right up my street. I've never saw that before. Did you get it from a supermarket please? If you don't mind me asking. Another brilliant video 👍🏻
Quality Video mate. Loved it....
Thank you, Lee 👍🏼

I am smitten with wild wales, for a bird watching wildlife enthusiast whos got a set of bins and a camera its heaven... you should change the names to Gods chair, Gods staircase and Gods Bridge, awesome scenery, thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you, Deb. You would have a field day along the Llŷn Peninsula, bird watching, it's bustling with all sorts of wildlife. Thanks for watching and all the best, Ryan, Marianne & Toby
@wildaboutwales Some of the best birding weve done in UK so far, the Red Kite are amazing, did you know that a white tailed eagle regularly cruises up and down the coast line? You will have to.keep your eyes peeled on your adventures, shouldnt be too hard to spot, theyre massive lol, brilliant vid, so glad i found your channel 😀
@deblou7 thank you, Deb, glad hear you're enjoying it. I'm lucky to see a lot of Red Kites where I live, beautiful birds. No, I had no idea, I'll have to keep a lookout for that, sounds incredible.
Great video Brother. Cheers from the USA 🇺🇸. 🤘😎
Thanks, buddy! 🙌🏼 Best wishes from Wales 🏴
Ryan it's great to be welsh butt. We so lucky and blessed to have such amazing places to explore ❤. I usually hammock or tarp camping but would love to camp and explore the brecon what tent would u recommend for on a mountain?
Toby looks very happy and snug 😊
He sure was, Heather 🙂
Cracking pitch 👏🏻 great video as always mate
Cheers, bud! 🙌🏼
nice spot i took three American friends there in July they loved it.They couldnt believe all the countryside and coast on our doorstep.I was in Georgia with them in February and we had to drive over 3 hours to find somewhere to camp.
Hi mate, have you ever had a go at freezedrying food? Enjoy 🫡🫡🫡
Not freeze drying, but I do dehydrate meals for hiking.
Great video 🫡🫡🫡
Thank you, Jennifer 🙂
I didn't know sausages and garlic were bad for dogs!
I knew onions and garlic were bad, but not sausages. They're ok in moderation as a treat once in a while.
Like that tent! I've never seen a Robens tent. Must be made in the U.K.. Let's us know it fairs in the winter!! Good Luck to you Ryan !
I was wondering why no steak for Toby, but I did read other posts where you indicated that the steak issue will be resolved. Diolch
Cracking video really enjoy your adventures.
Thanks, Rodney, glad you're enjoying, mate! 🙏🏼
Looked a cold one that mate..
Bloody freezing, Steve, but the whisky warmed me up a bit 🥃👌🏼
You're a lucky man to have such a beautiful area so close to home. Great video as always, Ryan just what I needed on a dreary Sunday afternoon. I always feel compelled to crack open a beer and pour a wee nip so you don't have to drink alone! Cheers! My best to Toby as well.
I thought you might have had a dip before returning home, that's unlike you. 😊 A very pleasant watch and hope the tail end of Bert didn't make it too wet for you. atb Al
Thanks, Alan. A swim was on the cards, but I spent too much time chatting. I didn't make it out for the storm, the roads were too bad. Nevermind, I've got 3 weeks off to make up for it 🙂
Brilliant video, I was looking forward to this all weekend! One of my favourite walks, such a beautiful area 👍 Toby is one happy/spoilt pooch! We all know that so don’t worry . . . You do owe him a steak though 😂
Always love the videos! Sad story about Tommy! 😢
Another enjoyable video, the location looks beautiful. I’ve just finished reading ‘Finding Hildasay” by Christian Lewis, that I bought recently following your recommendation, and really enjoyed it, so much so, that I’ve ordered the sequel which should arrive any day. If any of your viewers are looking for a stocking filler, or have been tasked with a “Secret Santa” mission, they could do far worse, or of course just fancy it themselves. The recipient wouldn’t necessarily need to be a camper , it’s a feel good , easy read, and offers an insight into parts of the U.K. they’ve likely not heard of.
Hello buddy. You must be so proud to have that beautiful landscape on your doorstep. The tent looked good, and that can too at 11%😅. Good to see you out again, always love your videos. Cheers, Serk
Another fantastic video, love your content - great stuff 👍💪🏴👏
Cheers, Ben, much appreciated, pal 🙌🏼
Ahh, now I feel for Toby…. You’re eating his sausages 🤦♂️. Sorry Toby boy, for your own good pal, honest😖🙄
It's okay, Phil, there's a nice big juicy steak sitting in the fridge for him for our next camp 🙂
Hi Ryan, really enjoy your videos and explanations, it's really helping me to get kit together and giving me motivation to get out there. I'm quite regularly working in Ebbw Vale at the moment so I get some tremendous views on the drive down from Manchester, makes it feel almost effortless 😊 Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your experiences with us all.
Nice vlog again, love the simple vac pack idea,I do a lot of m/cycle camping I’ll try that out, all the best, nice tent too. 👏👏🏴✊KTF.
Thank you, Neil. It's a great way to take good home cooking out with you. All the best, Ryan.
Lovely to see a family full of happiness and love. And an amazing hike to make it even better. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share.
Thank you, John, I'm glad you enjoyed our little adventure. All the best, from the 3 of us.
Liking this now and going to watch it tomorrow while I’m back over the wrong side of the border 😂look forward to this one buddy 👏
Cheers, mucker, hope you enjoy, and I hope you get back on the right side of the bridge for a much earned rest. Take it easy, bud!
Just finished watching another Great video . The tent looks great 😊 It is a beautiful spot there , I like to put hand warmers in-between 2 pairs of socks works great and warms the sleeping bag up a bit .we look forward to the next video take care keep safe both ⛺.
Thanks so much! Funnily enough, I've just stocked up on warmers for our next camp. All the best to you, Ryan & Toby.
Lovely to see you and Toby out again ❤
It's great to be out again, Sharon. Many thanks! 🙏🏼
