@@nanmaco It is easy to grow a pineapple tree, just take the top part of the pineapple (the part she cut off) and place it in water until roots grow or some people just plant it in dirt. When you water, water the middle of leaves to prevent root rot. I have 3 that I am growing from earlier this year. Apparently it takes 2-3 years to produce.
Love this ! Found a fantastic deal for beautiful fresh pineapples! Bought 13 of them . A lady at the store came up to me asked what I was doing with all the pineapple.( She was about 60 ) I told her I was going to can them ! She was SHOCKED 😲!! She kept saying how amazing that was ! I told her I hunt for deals and either Can , dehydrate or put it in my freezer . She said " I never would have expected someone so young to be into canning " ( I'm 31) I told her I grew up doing it and explained this is what I've always done , last week I found a bunch of cauliflower on-sale and made a bunch of pickled cauliflower. This week I got pineapple and tons of bags of fresh cranberries for 0.25 ! We just had Thanksgiving here in Canada and Cranberries are always so cheap after Thanksgiving. So I grabbed 36 bags for $9 and am going to make my own cranberry juice concentrate . She thought that was amazing lol But I'm very thankful I have the skills to do stuff like this . God blesses me with Deals and I'm able to make things for my family ❤️

Pam a couple things: 1. I prefer the OXO Pineapple Corer. It is metal and takes less strength to get the goodies out. Just a suggestion. 2. I do the standard USDA guidelines on canning the fruit. However, if you scrub the skins, I take the skins and remaining fruit inside and boil it down and strain it in a food mill on fine, and boil it down with sugar or honey, for Pineapple Jam or glaze. It is spectacular on Ham, Pork Roasts, or even in some sweet and sour recipes. Our Farmer's Market here gets Pineapples several time a year that could be considered by the consumer market as "over-ripe." LOL No... It's just right for canning. I have even checked the pH and added a bit of lemon juice to correct the pH. It is fantastic and checks all the boxes for being safe. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I canned 21 pints of fresh pineapple in August following the USDA guidelines. Additionally: I hand squeezed my empty pineapples for more juice and I use the sharp tip of my carrot peeler to clean up all of the “eyes”. tx for sharing
@trashcatlinol You definitely can. I've taken the cores and boiled them in water, sugar and a little lime juice and made Pineapple Jelly! You can also use the cleaned rinds (or cores) to flavor chilled water. Very refreshing!
I’m always amused when I have a moment of realization that I can do something like…can pineapple! For whatever reason it has never crossed my mind. I’ve already ordered my ‘gadget’ so I’ll be ready when we’re able to score a great deal on pineapple! Thank you for sharing the tool because honestly the tool makes this seem so doable.
I canned pineapple a couple months ago and for the "simple syrup " I took all of the very clean peels and cores, some water, and any juice from slicing and boiled it for about 40 minutes and strained it. It was sweet enough that I didn't need to add sugar/sweeteners (that's helpful for diabetics). So it was canned in its own pineapple juice. Very good. I also let the pineapples sit on the counter for a week to make sure they were really ripe. A tip for knowing when pineapple is ripe is pulling an inner leaf. If it comes out easy it is ripe. If it doesn't come out it isn't ripe yet. I love pineapple 🍍. Thank u for the great info, always.
Thank you for such a thorough explaination! My family is plagued with genetic diabetes, so no added sugar canning tips are always great! One book about diabetic canning I use recommended using apple juice concentrate to sweeten desserts and I wonder if frozen pineapple juice concentrate could work if for some reason you don't have enough juice.... Thanks for sharing the super helpful and resourceful tip!
@@trashcatlinol would u mind sharing the name of your diabetic canning cookbook please? I would think the pineapple concentrate would work. That's kinda what I was trying to replicate using the skins etc. I just filled a large pot with the skins, cores, and any juice then filled the pot with water to cover everything and it was plenty of juice to fill the jars. I learned that from watching another RUclips video but I can't remember who's it was. I'll try to look back to see if I can find it and edit my comment if I find it. Thanks
The one with mostly juice would be good to add to smoothies, or bring to a boil and thicken with cornstarch, and use it as a topping for ice cream and / or cake!
I Have added canned pineapple to my food storage so we can have chicken (Chinese) hatstacks. Great over rice with canned chicken made into gravy. We also top this dish with raisens, shredded coconut and dry roasted peanuts. Awesome food storage meal.
I never thought about canning pineapple, but I when I see it on sale, I believe I will try it as my grandchildren love pineapple. Thank You again for your wonderful videos on canning.
I just got a bunch of pineapples at walmart for only $1 right after i watched this video!! I jumped right on it! Thank you so much!!!! I cant wait to can tomorrow!!! I will have this video playing as a reference!!!
Added tip after coring I rubbed my clean hands inside the pineapple shell and used my knuckles and fingertips to get as much juice out as possible and pressed from the outside with my other hand. I got a bunch of pineapples for free and gave 2 to my cousin and kept 9, 1 out of the 9 was no good but out of 8 I got over 5 cups of juice that way. And I went out and bought that kitchen gadget you have and wow that works great. I have bad arthritis in my hands and they weren't hurting at all from this tool. Thank you
That looks really great. Best prices I saw last year was $.97. Best price this year so far was $1.50. I am like you...buy good deals and get to canning or dehydrating. I haven't bought one of those coring tools, though. Do it the old fashion way with just a knife. Now I need a new gadget. Your are an inspiration!
I canned up lots of pints of pineapple back in August. I even was able to rings in wide mouth Ball jars. I had to seperate the spiral into single rings but they are beautiful, I had to wear a pair of nitril gardening gloves(new, for kitchen use) to protect my fingers handling hot food and jars..even the very lightest syrup is hotter than water...come winter, pineapple upside down cake is a holiday family favorite. Blessings!
Freeze dried pineapples are divine! Just rinse your chunks, pat dry, and freeze on a rack overnight before freeze drying. I also ran the leftovers thru my juicer and saved the juice. You can plant the tops anywhere outside and watch them grow.
Well this is a coincidence. I just found a great deal on pineapples in Yuma AZ. Making jam with 6, then chunking the rest for canning. If you like pineapple you should give the jam a try, it’s marvellous. On a side note, I have just bought the 4 tray HR freeze dryer. It has to sit for 24 hours the book says and that’s killing me ( not particularly patient lol), however I do have a line up of foods ready to go….after all the proper setups and bread run has been completed. Watching you with yours gave me the extra push I needed to make the purchase ( no pressure lol ). Before I buy anything I do absolutely loads of research. About 2 years worth on this so I know I’m going to be extremely satisfied with it. Cheers from Alberta.
Yesterday we found pineapples at our local Kroger’s (Smith’s is the Western Branch of the Kroger grocery family). Our pineapples cost $1,65/each; we are an additional 2,000 miles East of you and Hawaii (transport cost escalation?). I only wish I had the “core and slicer gadget;” I just followed the instructions on the card clipped to the pineapple. However, rather than hot bath pack the pineapple “diced” chunks cut I loaded our Harvest Right Freeze Dryer trays (lined with silicone mats) and pre-froze the trays to -11F then pre-chilled the Freeze Dryer and loaded the trays. It is surprising the pineapple dried to an indicated vacuum of 200 mT @ 135F in approximately 36 hours (I added an additional two (2) “Extra Drying Time” for my convenience) before removing and storing the freeze dried diced pineapples chunks. My preference for storing our freeze dried products is using canning jars (64 oz preferred; but, these are in short supply, so, I used 32 oz Ball jars). I vacuum seal the jars to 27 in-Hg (we live in Tennessee, our “homestead’s elevation is almost exactly 1,000 ft above SL I find this storage method an advantage since we can oped a jar use the amount of product required then promptly restore the preservation jars vacuum then back to its cool and dark storage location Thanks for all your inspiration, advice, techniques and technologies (I.e. “gadgets). Looking forward to your and Cindy’s Cookbook.
I really enjoy your canning videos so much. You're obviously a wonderful professor, you're so thorough and scientific in your explanation and research that you share with us. You break it down so that we can all fully understand the reasons behind the USDA guidelines. Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Over the past 6 months you have encouraged, inspired and taught us all so mych! Even just reading the comment sections help. Covering so many topics that cover basic ‘need to know’ things for every day life. Thanks to you both !! After learning and practicing water bath and pressure canning i was able to teach my sister to do both this past weekend. Great memories made. God bless you both
Canned 9 pints of pineapples today. Someone commented to chop cores add about 2 cups of water per pineapple cored and boil 10 minutes to make a natural pineapple syrup. I did this, smelled so nice in our NC home. Good information and good canning experience. Thanks to all!! God bless!
I have one of those pineapple corer gadgets. It's amazing! I just found pineapples on sale for $1 here locally in Louisville, Ky. I'm going tomorrow and score as many nice ones as I can. I'd love to put up that many pints as you did so hoping they have at least 10 nice ones! Oh, one tip I found on another channel, pull the cores out and process them in with your simple syrup!
Jumbo pineapples are on sale here i Ontario Canada at Walmart for 1$. I bought 11 of them lol. Im sure thats enough to can and dehydrate for my 3 hungry teenagers.
Wow, thanks for this video. My Aldi has pineapple for .97 cents each. Asked on our neighborhood website if anyone had a pineapple coring gadget for use in exchange for a jar Yes I am borrowing one from a neighbor. Yippee. All the jars I have left are 1/2 pint but they will do nicely. Thanks again. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Jim.
I love how clean and safe you are when doing things. Ive learned so much about canning -and the science of it- from your channel and I'm so thankful for you and your knowledge and time!
I've been canning for about 15 years and I've never seen a Jam Pan I love it! I must get one! Thank you for your video's they are very informative and I love them.
I’ve just bought a butane gas cooker like yours as I can’t use my presto on my induction hob but since all the power shortages it’s a back up too. I’m making fresh pineapple today and your apple pie filling tomorrow. We made the apple pie last year and it’s was delicious thank you
They really are beautiful jars and i love that you told how many canned jars you got from the ten pineapples. Thanks for these lovely informative videos.
I learned something in the first two minutes and fifteen seconds. Something that seems obvious, but I hadn't quite thought of especially if you're saving the juice is to wash the pineapple first! Well goes to show I just learned recently all about washing your bananas when you bring them home from the store as well, so this makes sense, thank you.
I never made jam before, this will be my first attempt. Your instruction and presentation make me believe "I can do this." I saw your review on Amazon and purchased the mazlin pan. Thank you! Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving, Pam and Jim. I love pineapple and will get some canned up when I can find any on sale. Thank you for all you both do for us all. You are amazing! Enjoy your holiday and try to get some rest. God bless
MicroMoment Topic -> this video is perfect timing. I love my Instant Pot pressure canner that I purchased after watching your videos. It makes canning a large number of small batches during the week super easy. I can run 4 pints through the canner while I cook dinner. The canner instructions state that you can use the pressure canner to can high acid foods (e.g., pineapple, cuties, jams, etc.) on the low pressure setting. I can’t find any additional guidance on this topic other than the instruction manual. I have used the pressure canner on low pressure using the USDA recipe and processing times for the water bath method to pressure can pineapple and cuties. This may be a no brainer but your guidance would be greatly appreciated because I am not sure if this is safe, the timing is overkill for pressure canning instead of water bath, not recommend/acceptable, etc.
Thanks to watching your video, I am now canning pineapple. Who knew and why not! We can so many varieties of fruit in jars to enjoy all winter long. Adding pineapple to our stash is a big bonus as we love it. 34 pints pineapple added to the pantry :)
Pam, I have several questions for you regarding equipment. I am being gifted a newer stove with a glass cooktop. From this video I assume it's safe to use a glass cooktop for Water bath canning. For pressure canning I know you use a camp chef. How do you keep it at 12000 btu when it's a 30,000 btu model? I know Presto says not to use on a stove higher than 12,000 btu. Thank you for your great videos.
I Love pineapples , but after I cut the top off, like you did, I plant the tops in good soil and take care of them like any other crop. They do take a long time to harvest ( about 2 yrs) but if you have the space, it's worth it. My brother gave me 2 plants, and I have planted about 10 more. I already harvested 1 a few months ago, and it was very sweet and juicey. Not as big as in stores, more rounded.
I always love to watch canning videos. One thing that puzzles me, though, is that we are told to have a towel or pad down on the counter to protect from thermal shock when they come out of the canner. When I am doing canning, I use a towel when putting hot food into hot jars while getting them ready for the canner. It seems to me that there would still be thermal shock even if the jars and contents aren't quite as hot as they will be coming out of the canner. Even if they don't break right then, I would think it would weaken the jars and shorten their useful life.
Just canned 1 pineapple in 1/2p jars. I added about 1.5T of minced ginger to the whole batch for a little kick and toake it differentthan store bought. Yum!
I just bought two pineapples for canning. I have not canned anything yet! I’m starting small and so glad you have this video! I don’t think I would of ever thought to save the juice! I also will only can them in water to lower sugar consumption. So saving the juice is a great idea
Thank you so much. Our community market here put out pineapple by the case to toss. some still green ! A man with hogs comes and gets stuff they have left over. Well this little piggy goes by there and gleens from whats still good. I got 3 but should have gotten more . I gave one to my sister and am canning the other 2. I so need one of those gadgets ! lol Gotta budget for one. My son has really good knife skills so was able to get him to cut them up. I had my juicer from when I had cancer and was jicing so... I had beautiful juice and appreciated the low sugar. Canned juice too and had enough to have a nice drink. Wink wink ! lol Again thank you so much.
I watched Alaska Granny and apparently pineapple does not preserve for a long time because the acid eventually eats through the seal. Just a heads up. We eat a lot of pineapple so I think we would be ok. My daughter bought me the gadget and I use it a lot. We are kitchen gadget girls!! I started several pineapples from tops and then their pups. I had 16 plants and they produced the best tasting fruit ever. They all froze in the Texas deep freeze.
That works out to roughly 70 cents a pint. Of course, that is not counting sugar, electricity, butane, and your time. Love your pineapple gadget! Thanks, Pam and Jim, and Happy Thanksgiving to you both.
Sandi: Yes, that is what we thought when saw it. Then were amazed at the ease we were able to core the pineapple and pull it out of the husk and chunk it. Thanks for watching our channel. Jim
I live in Florida, and I take the pineapple top and plant it instead of tossing it out. This way I get a free pineapple, though it is a long process. It is fun to watch and fun to eat.
I never add syrup or sugar to mine, because I juice my cores and skins. Plus, I add the caviar from my vanilla beans to a few jars, so delicious. Excellent video btw!
I saw this video last night 6/20/22. Today I went on the hunt for pineapple. My sister-in-law and my daughter and myself have been putting up pineapple and pickles this afternoon.
I loved your maslin pan. I researched prices on the internet & found a company (Lee Valley) that had the maslin pan w/optional lid for much less than the prices on Amazon. It was as well made as the Amazon pans and I love to save money. So my maslin pan came from another website. I love, love it. I make pectin free jams that need to boil down and this will be perfect. TY for teaching us about this pan.
That's also a whole bunch of pineapple plants you can grow from those tops. I haven't canned anything yet, even though I have all the gadgets, but you are encouraging me with each video you make. Love you so! Happy Thanksgiving Mrs Pam 🦃

I just canned pineapple, but wish I didn't have to pay $2.80 each. I also love pineapple and my hubby loves his pineapple upside-down cake. I went on walmart and amazon to find a gadget like that. Soon, I will get it ordered. Thanks for sharing such a great gadget.
Thank is some gorgeous Pineapple Ms. Pam. Think I need your gadget. I want to dehydrate some never have tried.Heard to blend the core real good to help when you over do the heavy things.
Thanks for the video. I have always wanted to try to can pineapple. Sometimes the canned ones can taste a little metallic. When I eat it fresh, I save the core (in the freezer) for smoothies.
Add a small cutting board that fits well within the cookie sheet to protect the cookie sheet for the chopping and cutting, while still capturing the juice.

That is a great price! One of the stores around here, had them priced by the pound. We did not buy any. Jim
Jumbo pineapples are on sale here i Ontario Canada at Walmart for 1$. I bought 11 of them lol. Im sure thats enough to can and dehydrate for my 3 hungry teenagers.
I just bought Pineapples for 77 cents each! I will get busy!! Thank you for the canning class!
Thank you. Our local store has them for $1.42. Will be canning some on Monday. I bid you peace.
Did you also know you can freeze dry the core and powder it? It would make for a wonderful additional spice in so many things.
Another great idea! I love Pam's comment section!
It Might be good meat tenderizer, high in bromelain.
Wow, thanks for this video. My Aldi has pineapple for .97 cents each. Asked on our neighborhood website if anyone had a pineapple coring gadget for use in exchange for a jar
Yes I am borrowing one from a neighbor.
You are so welcome! Thank you for your kink words.
Wow! That gadget is a keeper! I've never seen one operated before, honestly would have thought it wouldn't work if I were looking at one in the store.
Beautiful pineapple!!! Thank you for sharing Pam and wanting to wish you and Jim a very thankful Thanksgiving to you and your family. God bless.
I love the way you explain clearly and succinctly. Thank you!
I've been canning for about 15 years and I've never seen a Jam Pan I love it! I must get one! Thank you for your video's they are very informative and I love them.
I'm headed to the store because Albertson's has them for .97 cents today. Thanks for another fabulous lesson.
I normally don't like tools that are "uni-taskers" because we live in a tiny house, but I think I will invest in one of those.
I love the sound of lids popping! I hope you get your additional pineapple. Have a lovely holiday1
T H: Thank you! Yes, we did get our additional pineapple(s). You have great Thanksgiving. Jim
You inspired me to start canning. I'm starting with water canning. I just bought my supplies and very excited to see how it goes. Thank you
I love you and I like your method of teaching. I am from Belize and I am surely spending a lot of time in your presence on RUclips.
You are broadening my horizons! What a wonderful thing to have beautiful home canned pineapple!
Dan: That is the reason we did this video. Thanks for watching our channel. Jim
Good morning to you too , thank fir sharing with us
I absolutely adore both your husband and you sharing your knowledge! Thank you from Montreal !
Thank you for such a detailed and informative explanation. Can the jars be filled with water rather than a simple syrup?
Haven't seen any pineapple on sale in my area, but we love it! So glad Jim was shopping in the right store at the right time!!
Rosette: Yes I was. The canned pineapple is very good. Jim
Thank you for the motivation. I'm so excited to stop and pick up pineapples. Thank you so much my Red Headed Kitchen Friend!!
You are so welcome! I love it that you husband gave me that name! Thanks!
I never made jam before, this will be my first attempt. Your instruction and presentation make me believe "I can do this." I saw your review on Amazon and purchased the mazlin pan. Thank you! Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
I purchased the pan and the triangle shaped silicon measuring cups!
Happy Thanksgiving, Pam and Jim! Have a beautiful day with your family! Love you guys! Thanks for all you do!
Mary: Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. Jim
Thanks for that Pam, im not yet confident to buy a canner..so I'm starting with water canning foods that can be canned this way.
Thanks to watching your video, I am now canning pineapple. Who knew and why not! We can so many varieties of fruit in jars to enjoy all winter long. Adding pineapple to our stash is a big bonus as we love it. 34 pints pineapple added to the pantry :)
Wonderful! We love to have canned pineapple on hand as well and I am constantly watching for sales on it.
I use old towels when filling and cooling. Wayyyyy less mess just toss into the washer. I have lots of old towels I keep just for this purpose.
You are so welcome! Jim
Fantastic!!! Here in Puerto Rico we are in the pineapple harvest season!! I’ll do it😃💃🏻 Thank you!!!
Luisa: Great!! Let us know how pineapple canning works out. Jim
Thanks! I found a sale yesterday and am heading back for more pineapples 🍍!!!!
I can pineapple too and it is soooo delicious! If you get a chance try it on pizza (with Canadian bacon) made on the grill - FABULOUS!!
This is making my mouth water. I love Pineapple and will definitely be canning pineapple when I see it on sale in the stores.
Tammy: The pineapple was very good when we tested it. We appreciate you watching out video. Jim
Yum, I love fresh pineapple!
Thank you I will be doning some
I watched Alaska Granny and apparently pineapple does not preserve for a long time because the acid eventually eats through the seal.
I wonder if dehydrating the pineapple and then rehydrating it would work or taste good?
Very impressive! I’ve been canning for years. And I love pineapple! That pineapple cutter is neat!
That works out to roughly 70 cents a pint. Of course, that is not counting sugar, electricity, butane, and your time. Love your pineapple gadget! Thanks, Pam and Jim, and Happy Thanksgiving to you both.
Oh wow I will keep my eyes open around here. What a savings. Thank you for sharing. You and your husband inspire me.
Windy: Yes, it is a labor and time saving device. We enjoyed using it.
exciting, I never knew you could can pineapple. I will be watching for sales.
What an awesome device.
The gadget wins awards with me! Fun video and always an inspiration! Thank you!!! 😋
I have canned pineapple & instead of light syrup, I used white unsweetened grape juice. Made it so much simpler. Was very good.
That is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
I think I’m going to use pineapple juice in a can.
I never add syrup or sugar to mine, because I juice my cores and skins. Plus, I add the caviar from my vanilla beans to a few jars, so delicious. Excellent video btw!
Adding vanilla sounds great
Thank you for all that you do. So appreciated!!!!!!!!
I saw this video last night 6/20/22. Today I went on the hunt for pineapple. My sister-in-law and my daughter and myself have been putting up pineapple and pickles this afternoon.
I never even thought about canning pineapple! It's on the radar now and can't wait for the opportunity to do this.
Beautiful!!!! Thank you💐
This is excellent! Now I want to can pineapples!!😂 I love cottage cheese with peaches as well as pineapple. You have made my day sister! ❤
Sandy: That is great research for a great price! Jim
That's also a whole bunch of pineapple plants you can grow from those tops. I haven't canned anything yet, even though I have all the gadgets, but you are encouraging me with each video you make. Love you so! Happy Thanksgiving Mrs Pam 🦃
So nice of you! Thank you. And Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
Too bad they won't regrow pineapples (if i'm not mistaken) but the plant is very lovely! I'll have to save one if I get to can pineapple!
@@trashcatlinolyes they will grow pineapples! Takes about 18 months. Lots of RUclips videos on growing from the tops. You can cut 1 top into 4 to get 4 plants
I just canned pineapple, but wish I didn't have to pay $2.80 each. I also love pineapple and my hubby loves his pineapple upside-down cake. I went on walmart and amazon to find a gadget like that. Soon, I will get it ordered. Thanks for sharing such a great gadget.
Ok that is the slickest of the slick!!! I must find one of those. The pineapple looks so refreshing and delicious.🥰
Gonna do this! And with the leftover peels and cores I make tepache, a delicious, refreshing fermented pineapple drink. So good and nothing is wasted!
az: Sounds like a deal for you to drink. Thanks for watching our channel. Jim
Thanks, Ms Pam.
Thank is some gorgeous Pineapple Ms. Pam. Think I need your gadget. I want to dehydrate some never have tried.Heard to blend the core real good to help when you over do the heavy things.
Thanks! Gonna try this!
I never have canned pineapple, but sure would like to. Looked sooooooo great. Amazingly good price for pineapple!
Thanks for the video. I have always wanted to try to can pineapple. Sometimes the canned ones can taste a little metallic. When I eat it fresh, I save the core (in the freezer) for smoothies.
Thank you both for being so helpful
I love pineapples! I only get 3 at a time when it’s on sale but not anymore! Thank you for this video!
thanks for this video. i’m going to can some pineapple this week! I love learning from you.
Add a small cutting board that fits well within the cookie sheet to protect the cookie sheet for the chopping and cutting, while still capturing the juice.
I don't know which impresses me the most, the price of the pineapples or that gadget. Awesome video. Thanks.
