  • This is a rerelease of Coby's reactions to all five Indiana Jones movies in one video! For fun, we thought it would be neat to have her experience the saga in chronological order starting with Temple of Doom first and then going to Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade which deals with Indy and the Nazis! And we finish with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny!
Hello everyone, welcome to Popcorn Roulette! We are a movie and television reaction channel featuring a dynamic roster of reactors including COBY, AMELIA, and JONATHAN along with CAMI, NICKI and NICOLETTE dropping in from time to time!

The only problem I see with watching in chronological order is the face off with the sword fighters. In Temple of Doom it was supposed to be a call back to when he casually shot the guy in Raiders after all his theatrics, but in Temple it’s supposed to be kind of funny when he realizes that he doesn’t have his gun on him.

yeah. watching any film series in chronological order if you've never seen them is always a bad idea. Not sure why people do this.

Well, it sort of works but in a different way. This way it's sort of a progression. Back then he didn't have his gun and that got him into trouble. Later on he made sure he has his gun.

      There's more than that.
In "Raiders" he's a skeptical science-only atheist despite having not just witnessing a few, but *summoning* a divine miracle, from *another religious tradition* he wasn't even brought up in, a year before flying off to Egypt to find Moses's luggage. By 1936, not only should he be more open minded to the supernatural, he would be a full-on fundamentalist Hindu

When they made Raiders Of The Lost Ark, they were paying homage to the Saturday morning adventure films that had a short episode ending on a cliff hanger and the following week you could see how the hero got out of the cliffhanger situation.

Difficult remembering that far back but at our Saturday morning pictures in the Granada cinema it always seemed to be Zorro and it was sixpence (equiv. to 2.5p?) to get in. Lost in Space was the only TV program I can remember with Cliffhanger endings.

Chronological order fixes a big problem most reactors have with Temple of Doom - that Willie isn't Marion 😅
Getting Willie first means that instead of pining for Marion, you can actually enjoy Willie - who is a hilarious damsel in distress played to 11.

You made a comment about how these are like "Adventure Bond" movies. These were sort done as a spiritual successor to Bond films. Lucas and Speilberg were already good friends before working on this. Lucas thought Star Wars was going to bomb, so he went to Hawaii to kind of hide out so he didn't have to hear what the box office numbers were like. Spielberg went with him. Spielberg expressed to Lucas his desire to direct a Bond film and Lucas told him "I've got something better than Bond", and proceeded to tell him about archaeologist Indiana Smith, who, because Spielberg thought the name was too similar to "Nevada Smith", a character played by Steve McQueen in a movie of the same name, Lucas said "Fine, we'll call him Indiana Jones." And then of course, by the time we get to Last Crusade, there was only one actor they wanted to play Indy's father. James Bond himself.

  • @billbabcock1833

Oh Coby who suggested watching these in chronological order? It's not as bad as telling someone to watch Star Wars in chronological order, but close.
All of these classic franchises should be seen in release order. Watching them in release order lets you see them as the world saw them when they came out. Besides, if you watch them chronologically you're inviting spoilers. Everybody knows what I'm talking about.
    Just my opinion.
Nevertheless, as someone who saw all of these great 70s and 80s movies as they came out, I'm looking forward to watching how much you're going to enjoy these.

    • @gastronomist
      @gastronomist Месяц назад +1

I agree - you'd see them as the world saw them in release order except for you don't get the long wait between sequels. The best example is the three years that people had to wait between 1980 and 1983 to see if Darth Vader was really Luke's father.

    • @PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm
      @PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm День назад

In this case it was only flip-flopping the first two films so it wasn't really that big of a deal. And the only reason they made Temple of Doom a prequel to Raiders was so Indy could have a different love interest! Otherwise people would think he was cheating on Marion!

When I saw that this was 3 hours 51 minutes I was intimidated--and when I saw that you had lined up all five movie reactions I decided to make the time. Thank you for sharing your reactions. It was as if I were seeing new movies through your eyes even though these were highlight clips.
Indiana Jones was supposed to be James Bond set in the Thirties but doing archeology, not espionage, not "licensed to kill." Travel to exotic lands, meet new people in strange cultures, kill them--oops! Like the James Bond movies, the first act is an entire adventure--that has some connection to the main adventure. In the Last Crusade, Dr Jones Sr is working on the Grail diary during the initial scene and cannot be disturbed.
In the beginning of "The Last Crusade" that "husky" was the famous dog Indiana. On the Disneyland Railroad there used to be Indiana's doghouse between Main Street Station and New Orleans Station.
Another person pointed this out to me--Indiana Jones never gets the item he was after. What happened to the Ark, the magical stone, the Holy Grail, the Crystal Skull and the Dial of Destiny?
Again, thanks for four entertaining hours.

I think I as a kid saw Doom first, just because of the practicality of myself being not a baby when DOOM aired on HBO free preview weekends, so I never had the endless comparisons to Willie not being as brave or kickass of a girl as Marion which most people complain about. It was shot on location in the courtyard of the Arts & Crafts School of Almería, in South East Spain, not too far from where I'm from (most exterior scenes from that part of the movie where in the Almería area). I totally get what you mean about how old movies sometimes looked kind of fake in so many shots filmed on actual location such as this one. My guess is that it's due to the fact that the shot has both natural lighting and a lot of extra sources of artifical light pointing at the characters, so the end result is not too natural and can make our brains just assume that those actors were shot separately from the background.

Initially Spielberg and the production would have wanted to do it in The Alhambra (Granada, Spain 🇪🇸), but they did not obtain permission to film there.
The car ride along that street with Salah is also Almería , just as the desert part is the Tabernas Desert, in the same province of Almería, considered the only desert in the territory of Europe…the motorcycle chase was also in Spain...

A fun fact, it´s when young Indy uses the whip and gets a scar himself in the chin. Harrison Ford, in real life, has a scar in the same place, but in his case was due to a car crash when he was young.

The arc's a holding box for holy relics. The lid w/ the cherubim is the mercy seat where God's Presence dwelt among His people. Powerful and dangerous, but not evil, and also not a weapon to be used w/o reverence.

I didn't think it was great, but thought dial of destiny was okay. It was a lukewarm, tonally appropriate sendoff. Like a middle-aged or older person drinking coffee just the way Mom or Dad Used to make it, even though it's not that objectively good and there is much better these days. It captured the spirit though.

If I understood the movie, the dial was programmed to take you back to that time period only. It wasn't meant to be a time-traveling device to wherever you wanted to go.

    27:14
Hindu gods with many arms include the god Vishnu, who is often depicted with four or more arms. Also, the goddess Kali is often depicted with four arms, the god Shiva is often depicted with six arms, and the goddess Durga is often depicted with ten arms.
But the deity this branch of the Thuggees worship is not Kali.
This looks more like a demon Mola Ram made up to justify the search for the stones.

As bad as Crystal skull was, especially in comparison to the real trilogy, dial of destiny was absolutely ridiculous and atrocious. The beginning was decent, but everything after the fact was an absolute letdown.

Ford actually appeared in a nice little cameo in the YOUNG INDIANA JONES show, which was released across 3 sets of DVDs. They combined two episodes each into one "movie".
Ford is in MYSTERY OF THE BLUES.
Whole show is a great watch, but its more historical adventure, where he as a child and as a young men meets and witnesses historical events and people instead of ancient mystical relics.
It is great even considering the advances in TV SFX and composition.

I'm glad Temple of Doom wasn't the first, since it didn't do as well as Raiders at the Box office and chances are if it was first there most likely wouldn't of been any sequels.

A lot of kids I grew up with saw Temple of Doom in theaters first and then Raiders later on cable before Last Crusade in theaters again. Either way they always loved all the movies regardless of which they watched first but Raiders does pair nicely with Crusade’s World War II connections.

Great reaction yes it is better in the big screen but the way you’re saying is good. I never thought of using it doing this order but you’re right that is the best way. I think you love the next one and I know people say foreign five or not good be as good as the other three but they are good. They should all be seen good parts and parts. If you like the relationships you’ll love part four don’t let people talk you out of Crystal skull until next time.

If you want to see Sean Connery in another great film, one that he had a good part in was "The Untouchables", in which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. It takes place mainly in Chicago during Prohibition. It also stars Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness and Robert De Niro as Al Capone.

1:26:55 in the Bible the ark of the covenant is a wooden box covered in gold inside and out with a lid that’s also covered in gold and has golden Cheribon statue fused on top, inside it’s supposed to be the 10 Commandments, a Golden jar of mana, Aaron Steph and maybe the original versions of the 10 Commandments that were smashed before getting put in the ark, With four golden rings added to each side of the arc to carry wooden planks because the wooden plagues were the ways people would carry the ark and the reason the wooden planks were needed was because anyone who didn’t make the ark was for bidden to touch and look inside the ark. The ark of the covenant also brought bad luck to anyone who stole it from the Hebrews.
