1. Last Crusade 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark 3. Temple of Doom 4. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I don’t even acknowledge Dial of Destiny as part of the series.
Here's my contraversial ranking 1. Last Crusade 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark 3. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Yep, it's awesome) 4. Temple of Doom (sorry, this one was never my thing) 5. Dial of Destiny
Agree, so much of it was boring and didn’t really make sense. Why did Mads look the same age at the beginning flashback and the rest of the movie, and how did he survive the pole to his face?
Not a single minute of Raiders is boring, but Last Crusade wins out for me for the following reasons: 1) Indy's backstory showing his fear of snakes, whip, fedora 2) Venice set-piece culminating in boat canal chase with another boat's propeller threatening to kill him 3) Bangs hot Austrian Elsa 4) Medieval castle set-piece where he escapes a burning room whilst tied to a chair 5) Motorbike & sidecar case where he jousts with a flagpole 6) Infiltrates a Nazi rally right in the middle of Berlin, comes face-to-face with Hitler, and gets his autograph 7) Zeppelin sequence which culminates in an airplane dogfight and later a plane-car chase 8) Battles a tank on horseback and destroys it by shoving a rock down its barrel (whilst Marcus and his dad are inside of the tank) 9) Meets a real, centuries-old Crusader Knight and claims the real Holy Grail 10) Before finally riding off into the sunset with his best friends and family. And all of this, all of this, whilst accompanied by his dad, who's played by none other than James Bond.
Raiders is quicker paced and probably the leaner film over all, but I have to agree. The Last Crusade is fantastic, the absolute pinnacle of the series. It’s Spielberg firing on all cylinders!
@@horrorfanandy4647 HAHAHAHA, Last Crusade was garbage. One of the cringiest yet most boring film I’ve ever seen. Somehow Spielberg managed to do everything wrong which is quite odd because he is a very talented director. Oh well the late 80’s were kind of rough for him relatively speaking.
@@horrorfanandy4647 The story was the same thing as Raiders. Yeah it’s got a great cast but they all give horrible performances. Ford seemed bored out of his mind, Elliot and Connery were just a couple of bumbling oafs, every word out of Alison Doody’s mouth was ear torture, Julian Glover even gave a terrible performance and he’s one of my favorite Bond villains. The set pieces weren’t even great, the Temple of Doom and the Well of Souls were great sets, nothing is great about Last Crusade and yes it’s really really boring. There’s no sense of danger or excitement like the first 2 movies.
Clearly the original 3 are on another level. The last two feel more like epilogues. The main problem is obviously that Indy could not be as heroic anymore. Other than that the writing and stories were much weaker. I do prefer Dial of Destiny over Skull because the story felt more like Indiana Jones, and it had that globe-trotting adventure aspect, taking place in several different locations like Raiders and Last Crusade. The MacGuffin was more interesting and I loved that it gave Indy a chance to actually witness a historical moment he was fascinated by. To me it felt much more like an appropriate send-off for the character, although I almost felt like it would have been more interesting and bold if he had been left behind as he wanted.
As someone who really like Dial of Destiny (not better than any from the original trilogy ofc), I appreciate that your reasoning for its placement doesn't come from a place of vitriol but just what you like about the franchise and how it compares to them. In a sea of pure hate on yt it's refreshing.
What makes Raiders special for me is the sense of mystery and danger about the ark. The macguffin and the chase to find it feels like it has heavier stakes than in any of the other movies, being a literal pandora's box of divine wrath. There's a balance between the wonder and fear of the unknown that Temple and especially Crusade don't have. Plus John Williams' "ark theme" is one of his best imo.
I just introduced these movies to my oldest, and he really liked them. His ranking was 3-1-2-4-5. He felt the last one didn't really feel like Indy to him, which I found interesting. He still liked it though. He really likes Indy, Short Round, and Henry Jones Sr as characters.
1. Last Crusade 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark 3. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 4. Temple of Doom 5. Dial of Destiny Last Crusade is one of my favorite movies ever. Raiders is still great. Temple of Doom and Dial of Destiny both hang around mediocre for me. Temple has high highs and low lows, but Dial never really reaches any emotional peak for me and ends up feeling dull most of the way through. Still props to Harrison Ford, though.
1. Lost ark (perfect movie) 2. Last crusade 3. Crystal skull (alien idea and nuke scene is fuck but the ending is good) 4. Temple of doom (too much James bone less indy) 5. Dial of woke
I would go with Dial as the worst. You make an excellent post that this is an action/adventure series. At 80 years old, he can no longer do Action or Adventure. Crystal Skyll at the very least had some decent action scenes. They should have left it alone, or I would have been down for a new actor in his 30s or 40s to take over. We've had new actors play James Bond, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Dr. WHO, why not Indy?
This is a nice ranking and I find your insights interesting. The Last Crusade is my personal favourite. I know it's very similar to Raiders of the Lost Ark but Indiana Jones having a bit more character, there being some emotion, and the general story and action puts it at the top for me. I do think all three from the 80s are great though.
Come on, your analysis of Crystal Skull is word for word from Mr. Plinkett's review. That video has over five million views. Do you really think nobody will notice that?
Dial of Destiny is the worst!! Kingdom of the Crystal Skull still has Indy being an action hero, not a pathetic, sad, miserable looser who gets sidelined in his own movie. Crystal Skull is not the best, but I would choose that over Dial of Destiny any day.
Dial of Destiny is a complete piece of shit and inarguably the worst film in the canon, how come you don't know that? It's incredibly obvious, you really need to start sharpening your critical faculties. Keep your game tight and you will be alright!!!
The ending scene of raiders with all of the bad guys getting their faces melted off scarred me for life
Is this a Beatrice cameo in the wild?!
All scars last for life
1. Last Crusade
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. Temple of Doom
4. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Last Crusade is one of the most boring films I’ve ever seen, not to mention the most cringe worthy.

How so? It’s got a great story, cast, the set-pieces are fabulous! It’s a little slow on the off-set, but it’s never boring I think.

Nice to see someone who can at least appreciate Dial Of Destiny and not put in the very last place
I reckon if Spielberg had directed DoD, even with the same script, it would have been excellent.

Doom at 4 is wild
Haven’t even started the video but crystal skull is number 1 right
i'd personally say age of adaline is my fav but each to their own
I agree with this list. Although I will say that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had one of the best ending scenes where Indiana snatches his hat back.
1. Lost ark (perfect movie)

I tried to avoid saying the same things but its kinda unavoidable
Great vid!
I’ve never not agreed with HN. Let’s see if that’s still true after these 34 minutes
I’ve never not not agreed with HN
Update: I think the Last Crusade is the best one but it’s been years so I’m due a rewatch. Other than that, perfect list

5 movies? There are only 4, and the young indy series. You must be mistaken.
