i have no traditional record player any more but i still have that LP on my shelf. of all those recordings of MT this birmingham concert is the best. so professionally sung and recorded that it's amazing. thanks for sharing.
I can remember when this song first come out. It is just a powerful today as it was then. I admire the Manhattan Transfer group very talented. Have wondered what became of the original players.
They had a summer replacement show - I guess it was about 1975 - This was their very first number and as they started I'm thinking, "What are these white people doing and how dare they ?" They dared. When they passed the intro, they knocked me to the floor. Been a fan ever since. No group can harmonize like these four.
I have had the pleasure of seeing MT 3 time in my life. Last time about 7 months or so ago. I have loved them for over 30 + years. I did not even hear that Tim died until I came upon this page. I will never forget the first time I seen him strut across the stage in a yellow Zoot suite doing killer Joe. RIP old friend.
I saw them in Las V many many years ago..I didnt realize they sang about Jesus..I knew the song and Love it but well Im glad they used the NAME above ALL Names..They are secular though??
The applause at beginning is for the previous track Turn Me Loose. When he yells "You wanna hear another one?" at 0'09", I swear I hear someone in the crowd at 0'12" shout back "No, we don't!"
Yes your oft repeated note…. Someone shouts out Gloria. A great song that they performed brilliantly….. I know as I was at there when this was recorded at Hammersmith Apollo…
Can't the bible and qu'ran bashers PLEASE refrain from ignorance and just enjoy the song?! Why does there always have to be someone using the "you'll burn in hell ( and cooking oil apparently)" call? Sure, religion has some good basic values but the ignorant bunch - not all - who practice fuel most of the avoidable hatred out there. Valuing each other as equals DESPITE archaic beliefs is the way to go.....trust me. For everyone here to listen - ENJOY!!!
And whoever denies Jesus is Lord of Lord and King of Kings in that day shall be denied before the father. See we can quote scripture too and exclude you .... feels good eh? Why not follow your heart and do the words of Yeshua/ Jesus of Nazareth and that is "They shall know you are my disciples by the love you show to one another." We are all loved of God and only God can judge, not us.
