      +Bernard Wiseman Thats semi-valid, but the issue is that he treats it as if that is what he wouldve done naturally. It wasnt reactionary. Not only that, he had no questions about Andy at all, and there were points where Buzz acted as if he were better than woody because Andy played with him. Thats not exactly because you saw the others do it.

      ***** Well yeah, I liked it a lot when I was younger too. I haven't seen it recently either. But there's a difference between liking a movie and a movie actually being good. My favorite movie, Legend of The Guardians, isn't actually that great of a movie other than the animation, which was stellar. I still love it, but I don't run around saying it's a perfect movie.

      Some WigglesFan007 I'm gonna repeat what I said early. It's fine if you enjoy a movie. It's GREAT if you enjoy a movie, even if it's one I don't personally like. But there's a difference between a good movie and one that you enjoyed. I'm not even going to say I didn't like the first Cars. That movie was my shit when I was a kid. The soundtrack to that movie was the soundtrack to my life.

    You have some valid points. However, it really ticks me off when people call Andy a creeper because he plays with his toys at the end of the movie. Maybe this was just meant as a joke, but I've seen this complaint multiple times and it just helps push a point that if someone is behaving childish, they shouldn't be near children when that's just flat out not true. The whole point is that he let himself be a child and look ridiculous one last time and in doing so he wound up getting caught up into it. Should we penalize dads who play tea parties with their daughters and decide to take it a bit more seriously than they should?

    Oh 2011. When Pixar was still associated with quality. I think you were oddly dismissive of the films themes though considering that it was all about closure and growing up. I also don't see why the film has to be appreciated independent of the other films. Of course I wouldn't care if I weren't familiar with the characters and I didn't have an emotional attachment to them as a callback to my childhood but they already had those other two films. The fact is that anyone under 30 has Toy Story as part of their childhood and anyone 40-50 probably saw the film with their kids. They know that their audience has grown up and they are totally allowed to play with that.

    • @PeixeKing
      @PeixeKing 10 лет назад +15

      Exactly. He obviously doesn't care about the characters, and Toy Story is about characters, probably didn't have a nice childhood. The movie isn't nearly as effective if you didn't care for the first two, and is easy to criticize a movie by being nitpicky, because no movie is perfect. Nitpicking is just a lazy way to pretend that you're smarter than everybody, but you have always to look at the big pictur when analyzing something. Toy Story 3 is a great conclusion to a great trilogy because it remained faithful to the first two. We all knew what the conclusion would be, but it was good, because we grew with the characters, and the movie is both a homage and a final chapter, and works very well. In conclusion, it's a movie for fans of the franchise, and I don't even know if the reviewer actually likes any movies, because you can nitpick every movie in existence to death, if you want to look smart.

    • @YMS
      @YMS  10 лет назад +151

      PeixeKing I care enough about the characters to be bothered why they would all suddenly and unanimously assume that the main character who's guided them through every crisis for the past 15 years is now lying to them about whether or not they were placed in a trash bag because of supposed unexplained ulterior motives. I'm bothered by the fact that they completely abandoned all logic in how the characters would normally act because "they have to wind up at the daycare". I'm bothered by the fact that they could have easily taken the characters to the same place by writing it differently, but they didn't give enough of a shit about the characters and how they would act to bother to change it. It is the writers that don't care about the characters; not me.

    • @PeixeKing
      @PeixeKing 10 лет назад +22

      YourMovieSucksDOTorg I agree that the whole "not trusting Woody" thing was lazy writing, and plot conveniencies can be distracting,, and I never really cared about the villain (over the top), but some of the flaws that you pointed don't really affect the flow of the movie that much. I was a bit harsh on my comment because I thought you were just bashing the movie for the sake of it, like most of the critics on the internet, but since you took the time to read and reply to my comment, I see that you stand by your points, and the Woody trust issue is a great flaw of the movie, so I'm sorry about it. I still think the movie works where it matters the most, that is, providing a nostalgia trip with a fitting conclusion. I actually like most of your reviews: your opinion about Silent Hill was the most reasonable I've heard in a long time (unlike TwinPerfect, that simply bashes the movies for not being 100% accurate with the games), and I liked how you didn't just say "prometheus is dumb, horrible movie because it's not Alien" or something like that, but adressed the good points of the movie. So, sorry about calling you a nitpick whore, every person is entitled to their own opinion, and you made some good points, I just thought you were a little harsh at some points, like Mr. Potato Head morphing into a pancake ( that scene was hilarious, and it's a reference to a line in the first movie.). I will keep watching your reviews, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on Man of Steel and the Myiazaki movies, if possible, someday

    • @YMS
      @YMS  10 лет назад +82

      PeixeKing Some of the points I made were definitely nitpicks. I tried to make this review by saying "my main point is that it's a rehash" and then fit some of the nitpicky points in by saying "all that we have left is the credit we're supposed to give it for stupid things: ____". Many of the points I made don't ruin the movie. There are similar things to point out about movies I love. However, I don't really make these types of reviews unless I have what I'd consider to be legitimate reasons for disliking the film.

      to be fair Maximus was actually funny... but then again i think i only found him funny because of how seriously he took his job and the fact that everyone listened to him and his commands. I don't care for any of the oh he acts like a dog jokes, I thought he was funny when he was trying to act like a law enforcer, hunting down and fighting with Flynn was really funny to me. I do think they could've kept those aspects and not make him dog like since those other characteristics were more human like than dog..
      ah and i never saw The good dinosaur so i can't comment on that.

      ***** I respect your'e opinion and I can go as far as agreeing, the first half is definitely much better and I felt Wall-E is at it's strongest when it's being atmospheric and with little to no dialogue. The more action packed pieces were fine but the slow, atmospheric pieces like the one with Wall-E & EVE dancing in space were noticably much better and I wonder what it would have been like if it was a little more like a silent film with the only pieces of dialogue being made were the ones between Wall-E and EVE, but it probably wouldn't have done as well as it did since silent films are really no longer appreciated by the mainstream audience.

    9:42 I figured with the way Potato Head was moving around using the tortilla, he wasn't really in control of it. He is barely stable at all, but is able to move and balance somewhat due to his plastic pieces being placed across of it. Even then, poorly. So, no, I don't think he would be able to control the earth at all if he were placed in the ground. He would only be able to control his arms a bit.
    Otherwise, a great review.

    • @JefeTheSituation
      @JefeTheSituation 9 лет назад +2

      +GhenryPerez He shouldn't be able to stand without some sort of spine. Logically he should be almost completely on the ground still.

    • @Ghenry
      @Ghenry 9 лет назад +21

      +Orion Maximus The potato body is just a plastic shell. I'm willing to bet the potato body doesn't have any sort of 'spine' either.Same with any kind of softer toy throughout the films (best example being Woody. A very common toy of an older era. As it's been shown multiple times throughout the films, he cannot stand or sit on his own without some sort of support whenever he is pretending to be a normal toy). Again, I think Woody being able to stand straight up without any sort of spine makes just as much sense as Potato Head temporarily (and unstably) using a tortilla for a body.

    • @JefeTheSituation
      @JefeTheSituation 9 лет назад +15

      GhenryPerez His potato body is sturdy and doesn't bend at all. Woody can stand because its part of his body and he can control all aspects. He doesn't have any bones at all but he can keep his arms and legs straight. The tortilla is not part of Potato head's body and he should not be able to control the tortilla at all.

The applied force plus the weight of two toys, assuming Buzz is very strong, would be less than the weight of the three toys, assuming that Lotso is probably made of light enough material for his gravitational force to be considerably less than the applied force of Buzz. No plothole.

    Toy Story WAS a huge hit because it was the first feature film to incorporate CGI technology into a child-friendly animation. During the time Toy Story was released, movies were doing to CGI effects to death.
    Using CGI for an entire animation instead of incorporating it into a live-action film was considered to be groundbreaking, which is why it is so widely known today.
    So yes, it did come out during a convenient period. But at the same time, it WAS Pixar that had the idea to produce a CGI-made kid's film. And since then, many animation studios have gone with this format to create their own works.
    Shea, what are you even basing this "no artistic value on"?

      Gee, when you think about it, The Simpsons starting getting popular in the 90's, after starting in 1989.
      Same thing goes with Toy Story; It JUST so happens to be the FIRST movie to be fully CGI animated. In fact when you think about it, most cartoons in the 90's don't even hold up in the slightest, and most of the cartoons that DO hold up, JUST so happened to become popular in the 90's. In my opinion, the 90's aren't even all that great. Everything back then was just a 'chance, card.

      I think the big reason most people don't like CGI to begin with, is because IT'S BEEN AROUND IN SO MANY MOVIES.

      I think the big reason why hand drawn animation has been discontinued, is because animating the characters this way would be too hard, and the detail with the clothes, hair, skin, would be completely acinine. Hand-drawn animation would only function well, if it was theatrical. Also, another big reason could link to the 2000's where 2D animation was becoming less popular, thanks to advances in technology.

    • @davekendall5936

      +NEScRETRO But sadly, CGI isn't going anywhere. It's here to stay. It's easier to produce, easier to animate and younger generations prefer CGI to 2D animation. I wish more people would talk about overseas, or independent animation. But some of my favourite movies HAVE been CGI, like How to train your dragon 2, or The Lego Movie.

    • @davekendall5936
      @davekendall5936 6 лет назад

      +NEScRETRO While I do wish for more variety in cinema again, like a traditionally animated film, a stop motion film, or even an oil paint film like Loving Vincent, that doesn't mean we should automatically despise CGI, and say it's the worst spiteful thing in existence. I'm sure you have at least ONE favourite movie that's in CGI. I definitely have a few.

    You make a lot of great points and I never noticed how much 3 was like 2 (I totally forgot about the prospector guy). I agree with you that it's GROSSLY overrated, but you have to understand that when you say some people will think "I don't care about...the overall quality of a movie because it's marketed toward kids", you have to understand that with a children's movie, you don't have to be consistent with things the same way you do in a more adult-oriented movie. It's like the barrel scene in Desolation of Smaug, particularly in the Mr. Tortilla Head scene and the Mexican Buzz parts. The golf club part was definitely ridiculous though.

    Toy Story 3 was merely made for the nostalgic audience. However, just because it is a kids movie doesn't mean that it should be criticism immune. We can still criticize and point out the flaws of a movie we enjoy. Cars had flaws and so did Frozen (hate that movie). Also, you'd had to be completely dense and absent-minded to not notice Toy Story 3 using the same formulas as Toy Story 2 that Adam just pointed out.
    On a side note, 90's-2000 kids cartoon shows, just like the Disney movies, actually have a deep, interpretive background than most people believe.

    I always had a problem with Spanish Buzz. And it's because I've never seen a toy in my life that had both English and Spanish modes. I'm sure it's a thing now, and that's cool, but a toy being sold in the early-mid 90s would NEVER have that setting.
    Buzz seems to grow abilities that he didn't start with. Not saying it wasn't funny, but I don't believe it given the circumstances.

    My main problem with Toy Story 3 was how they handled Lotso. Lotso was never really a bad person, he got hurt and never managed to find a way to deal with that wound, or find someone who could help him heal it.
    But they basically do that towards the end, Lotso could have tried to save them but maybe he wasn't strong enough to pull the lever to stop the conveyor belt, but manages to find the crane to save them all at the end.
    Redemption arcs, when done well, are some of the most interesting and satisfying devices in a film to watch. It was going so well for Lotso's character development but then they just copy pasted the Stinky Pete ending for him.
    Such a let down for a decently developed character.

    Just as you think people shouldn't dismiss your review because you don't love the film, you shouldn't dismiss the acclaim and the people who love the film just because they don't have the same issues with it you did. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Citizen Kane, The Godfather, The Wizard of Oz, and just about any film ever all have plot conveniences and logical flaws in them that don't hold up to much scrutiny but people love those films because of the ideas, characters, themes, enjoyable sequences, etc. that weigh more positively on people than the flaws of the film. I respect your review despite having my own issues with it (why is its plot being parallel to Toy Story 2 a flaw? How are plot conveniences in this film any worse or more lazy than any other plot convenience ever?) but it seems you have very little respect for the people who do like this film and you denigrate their emotional response to it by just saying it's nostalgic and has absolutely nothing to do with the film itself, like as if every other sequel to a beloved film made years later was automatically the best reviewed film of the year.

    I dunno, you make some good points about the forced nature of everything in this movie, which is definitely an issue but your points about ow toy story 3 is a rehash of 2 are pretty tenuous. You just made a bunch of vague parallels using very precise formulation to make it seem as though they really were identical while the plots of both movies are actually pretty different.
    Oslo and stinky pete's backstoryies are similar but their actions and motivations are different, Oslo is a dictator who oppresses toys to suppress his own grief while stinky pete wants to be in a museum and finally get validation, which are pretty different storylines and are executed differently.
    The things involving Buzz lightyear in both movies is also pretty different. Buzz being reset to factory mode is a pretty brilliant idea and so is that of Buzz meeting another model like him, no reason why both ideas should not be exploited and they were executed in completely different ways with different places in the story.
    Everything in toy story 3 felt like an organic evolution of the story, the gang going to a daycare is an intelligent and logical plot point and the concept of a dictatorship inside a daycare is actually pretty fun concept and is vastly different from the collector plot in toy story 2.
    Not that you'll care or should care, it's just that your personnal opinion is objectively wrong and I am objectively right.(That was sarcasm btw)

      OmegaValwin No memory of what, the blackout? Of course he wouldn't have any memory during the blackout itself because he wouldn't be conscious however Buzz would still notice this strange phenomenon. I mean if you were having an argument with someone then suddenly you found yourself lying in your own bedroom you'd be curious as to what is going on.
