So, lemme get this straight. Mufasa wasnt royalty, but his father still told him about the kings of the past for some reason, and taka WAS royalty, but somehow mufasa became king, and still let taka be next in line, but still didnt give him the crown that was rightfully his? Is this like... a colonialism thing? Are they going to justify scar in the lion king?
I think they cannot bear for the protagonist to be a "privileged" royal lion who merely inherited his position, so they have to make him an underdog rebel whom the audience can relate to, or some nonsense like that. As if there haven't been kings throughout history, from all across the world, who proved their awesomeness or at least their successfulness.
Cringy title drop from evil Kimba aside (Disney thinks they're so clever), it occurred to me that there really isn't any major conflict for us to care about here. We know Mufasa's going to take his place as king at the end because the original film *_OPENS WITH HIS SON BEING INTRODUCED TO THE WHOLE SAVANNAH!!_*
We know the Emperor will lose eventually by Return of the Jedi (before the Disney era). But there's still a major conflict to care about in Revenge of the Sith, even if the Emperor's rise to power is pre-ordained.
@@michaelstrong5383 would have so much preferred if they would have left them as actual brothers and had the central conflict be Taka/Scar trying to challenge the way of things and prove he could be king. Maybe he comes up with a scheme to make himself look really good either by saving Mufasa or saving the pride lands, and it looks like he’s going to be rewarded, but either he’s found out or something happens that ends up with Mufasa saving the day by the end and seriously proving himself as the rightful king by saving his brother, and it poisons Scar’s mind because even when he was the hero, Mufasa still outshone him and he lost his chance when it was so close to being his.
At "We Fight, We Die" someone commented in the chat "IF WE FIGHT WE DIE IN THE FOOKIN WAHAH" and I'm just glad someone else found that part of one of the Romulus trailers as hysterical as I did
It's so annoying how they're trying to give an in-universe explanation for Scar's British accent, as if it wasn't just a stylistic choice for the character.
Does the accent upset you that much 😂? They didn’t have any mention of why the lions have accents, it’s just more British actors. If Mufasas father is American is that an explanation?
I think it's cause they have very little faith in a young audience to understand the idea of a stylistic choice (in line with the abandonment of traditional animation as 'unrealistic') plus they need to keep them vocally distinct in hopes of avoiding confusion while using basically the same character model for their two main characters
It’s even worse if you listen to the full song. Someone on Twitter/X leaked the whole song from the Disney D23 convention, and it sounds really bad, definitely a Lin Manual song. They repeated “I’ve always wanted a brother” 3 times before shifting to new lyrics, and they do this like 2 or 3 times in the whole song
@@rpg_neko1815 Remember when people said that Lin-Manuel Miranda would’ve been the better choice for songwriter for “Wish”? Seems like he took a page from Julia Michaels’ playbook of repeating the same phrase over and over in the chorus (like the “This Is The Thanks I Get?” song). LOL 😂
@@Ezrablynx Yeah don't female hyenas basically grow a sort of penis, which they then give birth through? And like half of them die from the birth process?
@@Ezrablynx Yeah, one of my favorite pieces of nature informations is the description of spotted hyena mating rituals in the German wikipedia. The English one just reads "Males will show submissive behaviour when approaching females in heat, even if the male outweighs his partner. Females usually favour younger males born or joined into the clan after they were born. Older females show a similar preference, with the addition of preferring males with whom they have had long and friendly prior relationships. Passive males tend to have greater success in courting females than aggressive ones" The German one goes: "The courtship behavior of the males makes it clear that, on the one hand, they are willing to reproduce, but on the other hand, they are afraid of the female and would rather run away. That's why the male carefully approaches the female with several bows and then backs away again. [...] If the female is not ready to conceive, she takes no notice of the male's courtship or even responds aggressively to him".
@@Ezrablynx And idk, maybe it could tell the story before the Pride Lands were ruled by lions and was instead ruled by a hyena clan with a queen and a female aristocracy and the males are basically the equivalent to Zazu. And since hyenas have both a higher success rate in hunting and can eat and digest a higher percentage of their prey, it was actually green and flourishing, not like in the second part of the original movie where the sheer presence of hyenas seems to destroy the entire ecology and even makes the weather bad. Then the lions invade and drive them into their elephant graveyard ghetto where they suffer hunger and disgrace, start to fight with each other more and more over food ect. and slowly turn into the kind of hyenas we know from the original movie.
32:46 I'm assuming the movie is going to start with Timon and Pumba telling the story of "how they single-handedly defeated Scar," and then Rafiki is going to interrupt and tell the story of Mufasa. Giving us the, "you're going to tell a story without us in it?" from earlier in the trailer.
The Timon and Pumbaa shots facing off against Scar have to be them telling an alternate version of the ending of the first movie. At the beginning, they’re talking about telling stories to Kiara.
The weirdest thing about this movie and its story is that none of the good guys, including Rafiki, knew that Scar was a true bad guy until the finale of the first movie. Now they're telling the origin story of Mufasa and Scar, so how does Scar appear in this story? They have to thread the needle of setting him up as a villain but not so much that it should've been obvious Mufasa shouldn't have kept Scar around. With this framing device, you can't reveal anything overtly evil about Scar but he still has to believeably be Scar. In the original, so much about Scar was revealed to us via scenes that did not include the good guys.
That's a really good point now that you mention it. The other lions didn't know that Scar killed Mufasa until he outright admitted it. The worst thing he did in their eyes was being a really bad king. No one knew about Scar's turn to evil except, well, Scar himself.
@@michaelstrong5383 i don't think we even knew if there was a "turn to evil" maybe scar was always a asshole jelous evil guy in the first place, it never needed to be explained.
I feel it’d be interesting to if it treated him like Judas in the gospels: he seems pretty decent but is made to be shiftier because the narrator has the hindsight of his betrayal.
HOW DOES ANY OF THIS MAKE SENSE?! If they're not blood related how the FUCK does Mufasa have any right to be king? How is it possible for him to beat out Scar, the actual HEIR? And will Mufasa still be older than him, or is that out the window too???? Why can't they just be brothers and have that be that, why does Disney have to make everything so unnecessarily complicated just because? This is so stupid, oh my god. Why does a silly 61 page tie-in novel from 1994 make more sense and have a better storyline than this???? Ugh, i have so many questions and I'm angry. Disney needs to stop with these remakes, I'm so tired. Just let animation stay animation and if you want money that bad, just rerelease the originals in theaters for a limited time. Let it be a sing-along in the theater or SOMETHING other than this, I'm actually begging.
I think Disney is attempting to scratch any male lead from their royalty title at this point, starting from the Little Mermaid live action bs. Oh yeah, for that movie they even had to make Ursula and Triton blood-related? When the original characters scratched that idea because it made 0 sense. Then for the lion king, I don't know. This is a little weird take since they're lions, but it might be the trend for Disney. I have a feeling the guy in the live action Snow White won't be a prince either. Prince Florian no longer exist so. It's Jonathan now 💀. Who knows? I'm just theorizing really early with their odd decisions. Let's just all enjoy the classics as their modern company rots.
I’m dead sure it’s the unnamed psychopath at Disney making these changes. The same one who keeps insisting that everything be live action and “realistic”. I’m pretty sure the trends told them that people like “complex” stories, so they unnecessarily complicate an otherwise simple story and dynamic. Also, have a like for the Twisted Wonderland pfp, which unironically treats its Scar-like character better than this prequel movie.
My guess is, how the trailer set it up, that Scar's father eventually wants to kick Mufasa out of the pride and Scar gets in the fight with the old man, having them both be exiled. "You and Taka together, that is home" is probably about the two not having a place in the pride anymore and they leave to find a home for themselves, where they eventually get to Pridelands and I guess fight Mads Mikkelsen over it.
My guess is they form a new pride separate from the pride taka came from and mufasa leads that one. So Taka would have been king if he stayed with the original pride, but since he went along with mufasa he ends up second fiddle and with a dope scar
@@kaimiarts this is not a defense of live action little mermaid, but the idea of triton and ursula being siblings was cut from the original animated script and then resurrected in broadway adaptations (and I want to say was implied in the animated sequels but that I'm not sure of). Live action still handled it horribly though. The broadway version's extra songs go so hard I think it helps the changes in "canon" fade into the background; there was no notable audience reaction to it then because it was a good adaptation and justified it's decisions lol
if I go a day without listening to Adam complain about a trailer not being in 4K I will perish in a very painful fashion, thank you for extending my lifeline
Almost positive that the Timon and Pumba against Scar is going to be the first scene in the movie and then revealed to be a story they're telling to Kiara, if they even bother keeping her in.
Adum, teaser trailer: "Ugh, this movie is DISGUSTANG!" Adum, official trailer: "Hahaha! What the hell? Facial expressions?? Accents?? BEAUTIFUL SKIES?? HA! I might see this in theaters. Holy *BEEP!*" Character development: 100!
Calling it, the scenes of Timon and Pumbaa attacking Scar will be a 5 second bit at the beginning of the movie where they're retelling the events from the end of the original film as if they were the heroes, akin to Lion King 1 1/2's opening
To be fair, one of the inspirations of Lion King besides Hamlet was the story of Moses. I'm pretty sure this prequel is going to be like Moses and Rameses from Prince of Egypt, but without all the stuff that made that relationship so compelling.
@@michaelstrong5383 Also, I think the Biblical story of Joseph was another inspiration for the original “The Lion King”. With that said, I agree with the rest of your comment.
I know it's never going to happen... but I hope disney has the balls to make Mufasa an absolute back stabbing douche bag towards Scar, to the point that Scar's reasoning for killing Mufasa in the first film is justified. Like the audience says " oh.. oh god.. yeah.. I would have wanted to kill Mufasa too... f that guy"
That’s absolutely what’s going to happen. Take a look at every villain backstory we’ve gotten in the past decade. It always sympathizes with the villain. For God’s sake, they made Cruella “not evil” even though she wants to murder hundreds of puppies. They tried to imply that being raped means you can destroy a child’s life with Maleficent. Need I go own?
Taka isn’t sultry at all. There’s no smoothness to the way he talks in the way Scar should. That’s not something you snap into. I don’t like to think he just suddenly became performative rather than just being a drama queen generally
With the amount of unnecessary flak Disney got for supposedly ripping off “Kimba The White Lion” (a mistruth that persists even to this day), I’m surprised they continued to go this route.
"sounds like a youtuber trying to fit in with classic newground animators/voice actors" is a roast I have thought in my head for years (with specific RUclipsrs in mind) but have been too scared to say. Thank you, Adam speak the truth 😂
Christ they are also cartoon lions who walk on four legs. People have shipped them and are going to continue to ship them regardless of who's related or who's not related. Just ignore it and don't let it take space in your brain
I'm going to predict that maybe they will end up being related due to some kind of twist, maybe 'Obasi' got aroooound. And it'll reveal that Mufasa really was the original crown prince.
Not sure if it's good that Disney listened to "all of the characters shouldn't have paralysed faces" criticisms, or bad that they needed to be told. Maybe the prequel will end with a rain of botox.
I love how Adam hates Disney, yet he still debunked the Kimba controversy for them as a freebie. Then Disney goes and reignites the flames by making a tribe of white lions the villains of their sequel.
Forcing these photorealistic animals into completely bizarre human facial expressions might be worse than what they had before, it's uncanny in a new way. I think the editing in this trailer cut around it as much as possible and they also have every animal talking with their whole body like an Italian to distract from it, I guess time will tell.
No way in hell they made a whole ass movie just to make Lion King 2 less incestous in retrospect. I can feel the faint voice of a Disney Exec in the distance yelling "See! It's not weird. Mufasa and Scar aren't even blood related!"
“You wanna know how I got this scar?” I wonder if they’re going to do a remake of the remake where they add facial expressions and even more piano. Also, baby Scar’s voice actor is so poorly cast. He only has TWO previous credits on IMDB. He sounds like he’s going to sing about magical elixirs and the tricks they do. Also also, love the reference at 20:55
The decision to give the animals facial expressions in this is like extinguishing a dumpster fire: it’s no longer on fire, but all you’re left with is a smouldering pile of garbage.

@@mariatorres-by6du That might work if one of the first trailer lines hadn't indicated he had no royal blood at all.

@@acksawblackNo, I mean they're making Scar unrelated to Mufasa to explain something that didn't need explaining.

Passive males tend to have greater success in courting females than aggressive ones"
The German one goes: "The courtship behavior of the males makes it clear that, on the one hand, they are willing to reproduce, but on the other hand, they are afraid of the female and would rather run away.
Wow, dude, pride 🏳️🌈
Wow, dude, gay rock.
Kimba is finally in the "Live Action" Lion King canon!
Ala Lion King 1 1/2, yes
BEEP REPAAAAIR!

Almost positive that the Timon and Pumba against Scar is going to be the first scene in the movie and then revealed to be a story they're telling to Kiara, if they even bother keeping her in.

Man... Look at all this live-action.
I know it's never going to happen... but I hope disney has the balls to make Mufasa an absolute back stabbing douche bag towards Scar, to the point that Scar's reasoning for killing Mufasa in the first film is justified. That’s absolutely what’s going to happen. Take a look at every villain backstory we’ve gotten in the past decade. It always sympathizes with the villain. I'm going to predict that maybe they will end up being related due to some kind of twist, maybe 'Obasi' got aroooound. And it'll reveal that Mufasa really was the original crown prince.
