This band should have hit it much bigger here in the USA. This is one of their songs in particular I keep going back to. I love how it builds to the harmonies at the end. It makes me tear up with such a feeling of love and joy. I think back now and realize I took this music for granted. Back then, I always thought there would be music around like this to enjoy but as we know, music today is disposable, auto-tuned and not worth listening to. Thanks Simply Red for bringing us your talent.
This is my favorite song by SIMPLY RED. I think it's very highly underrated. I don't know why it wasn't more popular. Great vocals, a classic. Just as good as "Holding Back The Tears" in my opinion.
I had a great time singing backgrounds on this song and his album "A New Flame" with Mick Hucknall... in Monseratte The Virgin Islands. I will always remember he loved my voice & my creativity as I admired his.
Have grown up listening to Simply Red from a young age (now 27) and this song keeps getting better each time I hear it. Gives me goosebumps every time.
He is quite "Simply" The Best. An amazing voice, an amazing songwriter. A wonderful catelog of music, can't wait to see what's next. This is just one of 100 great songs he has written.
His wavy hair and voice make my day shine... I love this great band... Good music for the wonderful memories... Today's music empty of content. .Nothing powerful...
This impossible power A strength that I can’t see There’s no way That I can let you go Why did I mistake sex For another sense Then wanted someone else To try to tell you no I think you understand Oh that you’ve got it I try hard but I can’t Oh do without it I think you understand That you’ve got it This impossible power Has broken into me And stolen all the sense That I had before Why did I just take And never understand The love you’ve given me Could’ve learnt me more I think you understand Oh that you’ve got it I try hard but I can’t Oh do without it I think you understand That you’ve got it What made you think That I’d be true to you I needed to Prove it to myself That I could let you go What made you think that I’d be a fool for you You knew that I was lying There was something I was hiding I think you understand Oh that you’ve got it Well I try hard but I can’t Oh do without it
Incredible song. Hit a chord with me. I took an old girlfriend for granted back in the 80s and she died in 1987. I still cry today and this song says it all.
Saw them in Dec 2015 at HYDRO GLASGOW, what a gig, Mick has never forgot where he started, or who put him where he is today, his engagement with the audience was fantastic, a humble genius who has never forgotten his roots, ur dad done u proud mick. The world is a better place with Simply Red, god bless
I remember 25ish years ago Mick was on VH1/MTV introducing this video and I loved the song having never never heard of Simply Red. A few weeks later (I was an early teen) my mother and I were driving from Florida to N Carolina when she put 'A New Flame' into her tape deck as we drove through Atlanta and I got to here the entire album and the rest is history. I'm 38 now and my favorite flavor of music is Indie but Simply Red is still my heart and my favorite forever (danced to Holding Back the Years at my wedding with my mother). To this day I still put on Simply Red anytime I drive through Atlanta. Thank you Mick!
OMG I love this song, and I love Mick,I especially like the part in the video(2:27)and on when he really puts his self into the song.I will miss his music,Thank you for all the years,of your music and your soul love you SIMPLY RED!!!!!
I don't know how this has over four million views and only 9,122 likes. This is not only one of my favorite songs but I just love the video. Sweet-faced, young Mick baring his soulful heart with such a passionate vocal ... just love it.
Where has the time gone? From the early days with "Holding Back The Tears" to the latest and greatest, Mick's voice and songs are just as fresh as the first time! May Simply Red grace us a lot longer!
This song is able to define and describe exactly what's that uncertain thing the one we love has and makes us surrender. That "it" we can never explain.
Lamont Dozier is from my home, Detroit! There's tons of talent here. Makes me a proud Detroiter. This is one of my favorite songs. I can listen to it over and over again.
I believe this song has all the magic that songs written by the famous song trio Holland-Dozier- Holland were famous for. Songs Performed in the sixties by the Four Tops and other greats. Amaizin' to see Lamont sitting there with that proud expression on his face. Wonderful to see them kickin' it out still then even for an Irishman. Music, the universal language, has no barriers. Thanks Mick, Lamont and all involved.

One of the best songs of the last 30 years. Heart felt, timeless and classy.
Two finest soul singers in my humble opinion are Mick Hucknell and Daryl Hall ,they both sing from within the soul

This impossible power
A strength that I can’t see
There’s no way
That I can let you go
Why did I mistake sex
For another sense
Then wanted someone else
To try to tell you no
I think you understand
Oh that you’ve got it
I try hard but I can’t
Oh do without it
I think you understand
That you’ve got it
This impossible power
Has broken into me
And stolen all the sense
That I had before
Why did I just take
And never understand
The love you’ve given me
Could’ve learnt me more
I think you understand
Oh that you’ve got it
I try hard but I can’t
Oh do without it
I think you understand
That you’ve got it
What made you think
That I’d be true to you
I needed to
Prove it to myself
That I could let you go
What made you think that
I’d be a fool for you
You knew that I was lying
There was something
I was hiding
I think you understand
Oh that you’ve got it
Well I try hard but I can’t
Oh do without it
