My favorite scene from this movie besides the last one with Ariel, is when Krim is dying by the tree and said something along the lines of "Leilia, and even Maquia...Why have they moved forward?". It perfectly illustrated what Krim was fighting for. He was clinging to the past, unwilling to adapt to change, while Leilia and Maquia tried moving forward with their lives.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have struggled all my life with making attachments. You’re interpretation of this film has inspired me to push past my walls, past knowing that this acquaintance will be short, to step out. I grew up an Air Force brat - constantly moving, just becoming friends with kids, leaving friends behind and finding it difficult to settle into my new home. So thank you for this encouraging message: don’t measure relationships by years or transactions; remember that connections with people and those memories will last a lifetime.

It's by far the best and most emotional animated movie I've watched so far. It showed so many different aspects of life. Especially a mother's life, it's so hard and heartbreaking. I cried so much throughout the whole movie. This is a movie I can definitely recommend. One will learn so much about life and a mother while watching this. Don't forget about the tissues.

  • @laughablechimp4787

Great video, just a few complaints.
1-Maquia got kidnapped by Krim, not the ruling country. And she didn’t escape the castle, Krim brought her to the castle instead.
2-I’m not sure about this, but I don’t think Maquia made the decision to leave Mido and Lane permanently at first and they only came to the capital to see Leilia. Maquia makes the decision to stay there later.
3-I feel like more time should’ve been given to Leilia’s role in the story and how she parallels Maquia. In particular, her attempted suicide at the end upon meeting her daughter and her reasons for doing so.
I found it very interesting how Maquia and Leilia ended up learning 2 diametrically opposite life lessons despite their similar experiences, and while the movie does present Maquia’s lesson as the ultimate lesson, it doesn’t really present Leilia’s choice of wanting to abandon everything as bad either.
Krim refused to let go of the past and based on his death, his philosophy is the only one the movie truly shows in a negative light.
Leilia moved on and while she eventually decides to go back to the past and abandon everything she had right now and never wanting to go back to the present ever again in lieu of how much it has hurt her, she regrettably admits that she will miss this place.
Maquia moved on, but crucially, she’s far more accepting of the present and isn’t as tied to the past as Leilia and Krim. She’s the only one who was willing to go back to the country because she was the only one who thinks that relationships are worth it, even if you have to say goodbye in the end.
One thing I did find a bit forced about the movie is seeing Maquia leaving the place and never returning for many decades. I find it a bit unrealistic considering she could’ve likely visited them anytime in those 60-70 years and I’m sure there wouldn’t be much trouble if an Iorphan visited them for a few days every few years.
4-You talk a bit too slow in your videos.
5-You started taking about Ariel’s adolescence while showing clips of him as a teenager, and then you suddenly went back to when he was much younger to talk about that part before going back to the teenager phase. I found that structurally a bit odd.

    • @korisnthere
      @korisnthere  5 лет назад +22

Fair criticisms. On point 2, Maquia does specifically say they are leaving and will not return. It was a mix of going to help rescue Leila, and the people in the town starting to grow suspicious of her.

Just wanted to add a little more for point 2. I think a good part of Maquias decision was to not inconvenience Mido as well. Coz this scene came right after Krims told her in the letter that they are leaving her to fight for Leila coz she has a child to take care of/getting in the way. She might have felt that if she were to truly accept the state she is in (a mother ,not just a romanticism of filling up her loneliness, like in the scene leading up to when she made the promise with Ariel) she needed to accept the challenges and consequences of it as well

I didnt cry at the end it bugged me that she left Ariel's great grand kids. In the Return of the King (the movie at least) Arwen decides to stay in Middle Earth despite knowing Aragorn will eventualy die because she sees her child. Both Inmortal characters have that conflict , they will live beyond their mortal friends and family but in Return of the King Arwen sees that it is not a grim future thats left but a future with new lives.
Maquia leaves Ariel's family to go with a minor character whose only trait is drinking while she could have seen her son's family continue for centuries. It started bugging me since she leaves him just after her grandchild is born. Why? Why didnt she want to be a loving grandmother? She could just diguse herself and say she is one of their children later on and leave for a while after she looks too young for the generation she is pretending to be from similar to what the Cullens did in the Twilight saga. Even twilight handles youthful imortals better than Maquia.
Maquia is not a bad movie and as one of the first anime I have seen, it really impressed me. But its ending is just made to make the audience cry and nothing else. I did not cry because I do not think Maquia would have left Ariels family to go with a wandering drunk. It just seems to me that she would love her grand children and all after that because they are Ariel's decendants or even leave in the first place.
Leila's arc also seems illogical, for most of the film she wants to see her daughter and once the obstacles are gone she just leaves!!! Instead of now having to learn what being a mother means which Maquia has learned and could have possibly been a mentor like Mido was to her ,she just jumps and leaves her child who is innocent, an orphan. Her arc just doesnt make sense. In how to Train your Dragon 2 a main part of the story is Hiccup connecting to his recently found mother but Leila is just like "goodbye forget me and I will forget you good luck being an orphan"

i think leila’s arc was as heart wrenching as maquia’s. she had parents and knew the warmth and love of a mother while maquia had no parents. leila never got to see her child grow up and realized that she could never love her the way her child wanted to be loved. in the scene where leila leaves her own daughter didnt even recognize her. they were essentially strangers. leila and maquia really parallel here since maquia was able to love ariel and become a good mon despite knowing nothing about motherhood.

I get all my footage through torrents (nyaa) - though sometimes I have to use a program like Handbrake to convert it into a usable file type or remove the subs

I have a question, in the beginning of maquia, we watched her cry when she saw her friends being lovey in the moonlight. Why? I’ve questioned it for a while.

I had a friend watch this movie with me. They were grossed out... I was bawling, but they said the movie was pointless. So, what does this mean?
plus my friend is like 20, so they cant be playing dumb.

@@moonstrike999armedrabbit4 To feel the sadness in a story you need a great sense of empathy. That's why children can't understand what's so sad about a movie or what's so sad about a tragedy when watching news. Because they haven't learned about empathy yet. Maybe your friend couldn't relate to the story and didn't feel any empathy with characters. It doesn't necessarily mean your friend is a bad person, but they might have a hard time understanding other people's feelings. That, or maybe your friend just don't like anime and can't see animated character as a real person.

@@_KevinPrahadikaAprilliano you made my day! Thank you for Taking the time to share your knowledgeable. As for my friend, I believe your diagnose of no empathy is right. They have a huge ego and watch other anime’s so ILL keep your words in mind ✊✨
