In my opinion (and from the games I've played so far), there are only a handful - less than 10 I'd wager - of video games ever released whose OSTs are wholly perfect / near perfect. What's truly insane to me is THREE of them came out in 2017 (Zelda BoTW, Sonic Mania, and Persona 5). Thoughts?
BotW was too minimalist for my tastes, although I appreciate it and enjoy a lot of tracks, especially the Hyrule Castle song. A lot of the town themes are great too, they're just really few and far between the ambient piano tracks when you're out exploring or the same enemy fight music you hear when it's not a guardian. I prefer it like Skyrim where it has these beautiful orchestral pieces playing as you explore that keeps your mind occupied while running around the huge landscape. Even the main menu is completely silent, a first for the Zelda series and a change I didn't like. BotW has an amazing theme song, I dunno why that doesn't play on the menu at least haha. That's just my preference though.
@@Deadflower20xx I actually tend to agree with you, but my point is more the function of music in BotW is perfect in every way, if you consider what the game allows (and expects) you to do. It seamlessly matches the macabre nature of a massive yet mostly destroyed Hyrule. With that said, I still think Skyward Sword is my all time favorite Zelda OST. And great point about Skyrim, such a beautiful soundtrack!
