I feel that most movies have a spark of brilliance in at least one scene, and this is definitely it for X-men. The soul behind each side is what makes it so great, and it's always impressive when you can see both sides with respect in a scene; the horsemen might be supporting a crazed dictator and clearly earned the humans' betrayal, but it's hard not to respect devotion that's strong enough to be willing to die for another.

I think we saw Big A building this pyramid in the Days of Future Past post credit scene. Since I doubt he would have made such an easily activated self destruct system in the structure holding the most important bit of tech he has, this cabal that betrayed him must of secretly excavated and rigged it this way. Something that likely would have taken decades. The fact they were able to do that secretly, and that all the central chamber guards and entrance guards were in on the assassination plot, speaks to a large conspiracy that persisted for a long while, which also indicates that Apocalypse wasn't the greatest of rulers. To go against beings with such awesome power, means living under them was worse than this certain death.
Nah, all the conspirators only met the night before, had 1 hour of serious discussion and 2 hours of heavy drinking, went home to have one last sex and then spent the rest of their time digging and preparing.
Supervillains need faithful henchmen like these. They made the story impactful, even emotional. Modern henchmen are just so full of themselves and will usually turn against their masters. Make evil great again i suppose.
that's a good point. I think the impulse is to portray villains as weak and 'vicious' in the sense that they are full of vice and not virtues (like self sacrifice or bravery or cleverness etc). So impulse-driven villains/henchmen makes sense because we want to criticise those traits. HOWEVER: in real life, peopel who are good at things are still capable of using their virtues for evil. So maybe... we should consider that angle.
modern henchmen are super individualistic, it makes sense in an era of capitalism and neoliberalism, unfortunately. Gotta say those old and totally devoted henchmen are great, wish we could see more of those.
If modern henchmen are not super individualistic then the boss will sacrifice them instead. That's what you would see in TV. I guess you can see it in the workplace as well, where there's no more the same loyalty company - worker as before.

The opening and final scenes of this movie are one of the best in the entire franchise. So good. The rest of the movie sucked. It should have easily been a two part movie. Apocalypse deserved a two part movie. HE is the beginning of mutants created by the Celestials. I truly hope they do him right in the MCU and show is origin.

His horsemen here were so much cooler and badass than the rest of the movie. Sucks when movies make the intro the most interesting part by showing something from the past that would have been a better movie then what they made.
Especially when you consider that he literally made them god like. Look how weak storm was before he boosted her. It's more like they felt that they owed him everything good they had instead of pure loyalty in my opinion.

How awesome would it have been if we got an entire movie of Apocalypse and his rise to power, culminating in his golden age in Ancient Egypt? They could have ended it with this scene of betrayal, and it would be a perfect setup for his transition into present day for the next movie. While I’m dreaming, I’d also like a Great Leonopteryx and my own personal food truck.
Human entertainment needs drama. If superpowers worked and were applies logically, it would be a very grim world full of despair, because of how RELIABLY BORING they would be. Superman? Big brother that hears and sees all. Most enemies defeated by laser dropped from outer space (see Alice in Borderland laser system). Even if you send a ballistic missile with kryptonite to him, he is in higher atmosphere levels at least, without need for sleep, food or about anything. He will see that rocket flying from hours away (and month to get to him, given super speed). Teleportation character? Enjoy your organs being ripped off by portals… or…. you know…. them teleporting nukes and explosive devices anywhere and anything (perfect delivery system). Obviously you will never catch them either. Oh? A country combines their effort to track them down? Guess it is time to teleport Mount Everest very high in the sky, and flatten a country with an improvised meteor. Force fields? Invincible enemy. And yes, enjoy your head being “popped” or your inner organs being severed with portals in fashion like that headpop woman from “the Boys”. Mind control? Killgrave or (if smarter) Lelouch Vi Britannia. There is a movie called “dark minds” or something, about teenagers getting superpowers, and it shows how one telepath can essentially rule the world all by themselves. Anything with human factor in it will be their domain. Superheroes in media have amazing powers used in the most INEFFECTIVE way possible to end threats. Example: This guy slings web. Oh no, now he also needs super-strength to use that gimmicky round-about efficiently. AND super-reflexes. And 10 other things to justify using web. Reality: A guy who can stop a train with a his arms can just finger-flick you through a concrete wall… or just grab you by the neck… what are you gonna do? Risk being manually decapitated from a squeeze? Any superpowers, if not borderline useless, would be “instant win button” to life. Stories featuring them would be immensely boring. So, writers give characters amazing powers, used in the least effective way possible… heroes practically throw a fight for the human enemy to do so something. The only beings capable of realistically contesting a super-human being would also be super-human
well.. They were likely only loyal because of his power. Out of fear or jealously and tagged along for the benefits and avoiding death from him. Like the Sith in Star wars, that ask a jedi to join them on the dark side.
For many wondering like why they protected him to their last breaths. These 4 horsemen are Apocalyse children by blood. This is why. They are way stronger than Xavier mutants . They are Apocalypse family so expect such determination. The wife of apocalyse is Genesis. She is similar looking like that girl who invokes fire hydras
The weird-ass structure of the pyramid aside (think about it, it doesn't make sense), this was an absolutely amazing scene. Even almighty mutants can be bested by sheer determination from a few humans.
This was such an amazing scene. I especially loved how much it showed the egyptians put into the pyramid's structure. The slabs descent to gain enough momentum to bash through the bottom supports, etc. Loved it.
I could never understand how he went from that amazing team in Ancient Egypt who lay their lives for him to a bunch of teens who couldn’t even take an ass kicking. SMH!
Imagine yourself? You wake up, and suddenly the world you knew is completely gone. In 60 years, people went from building first aircraft/plane to flying to space. That is one lifespan. The dude got awoken from 1000+ lifespans worth of sleep. Even with powers to speed up understanding, that is A LOT of catching up to do. And he, instead of spending years to adapt to the new world and come up with a reasonable plan… did whatever. Probably, so culture-shocked and confused, he longed for familiarity…. So, he naturally assumed that picking up low-lives with power (what worked for him in that century) would work in the current. It does not. Typical example of cognitive anchor bias. So, yes, teens with super powers, OPTIMIZED to fight threats of modernity, were more skilled to fight at their own home turf. Progress is a scary thing. It is a massive advantage.
Lol Right! And some mutants who aren't even loyal at that. He should've waited, observed and gotten mutants who would've all stayed loyal to him till the end, and more experienced mutants who could really acually do something big with their powers at that, like Storm, Jean and Magneto's powers for instance.

Or it is a similar yet different pyramid. 😅
All villains gloat about power/ruling but probably suck at it. Apocalypse was no different.
Well said
He just improvidently hired Galen Erso to build the pyramid.
MEGA Movie Movement: Make Evil Great Again lol
that's a good point.
Ya got henchmen and ya got goons. Those guys were henchmen.

I really like the designs of his original Four Horsemen. I wish they'd made it through instead of just drafting a bunch of pre existing characters in as horsemen instead.
Honestly I always felt like Apocalypse should have been a two part movie. He IS the Thanos level villain of the X Men Franchise afterall..
No.
It kinda makes sense.
Power-level wise, once you go again Phoenix or Magneto, you should realistically become Jill Sandwitch

I use to think loyalty like that is far fetched, Then you look at Charles Manson at what he could convince a whole group to do.
Especially when you consider that he literally made them god like. Look how weak storm was before he boosted her. It's more like they felt that they owed him everything good they had instead of pure loyalty in my opinion.
Look at Capitol hill rioters, Trump cultists, they're ready to die for Trump. It's just like that. You can also compare it to vampires who are ready to die to protect their king Dracula.
@@Tomy-im8zl It's crazy, considering how Jim Jones and Charles Manson is able to convince a whole group to murder and commmit suicide. But I noticed how all of these have in common, all those leaders made their followers feel like family and they needed to contribute to the cause.

the one with the sekhmet mask was the super strong
the one with the horus mask was the pyrokinetic one...

@@willchurch8376 Sekhmet the Warrior, and Anubis the tender of souls. Horus was the Lord of *Sun* and Sky.
How awesome would it have been if we got an entire movie of Apocalypse and his rise to power, culminating in his golden age in Ancient Egypt?
They could have ended it with this scene of betrayal, and it would be a perfect setup for his transition into present day for the next movie.
While I’m dreaming, I’d also like a Great Leonopteryx and my own personal food truck.
byt the directors would try to humanize him, that's the problem, heroes winning is sign of trying brainwash the audience
The last mutant could hug Apocalypse and create a force shield on top of them.😂
Exactly lol
