@@Commanderziff He doesn't really have the powers of a world conqueror. Even if he were to absorb the energy of 10 nukes, he can't detonate those nukes far from him, since the energy is inside him. If he decided to end humanity it would take him ages to do it. Magneto is way stronger than him, his mistake was fighting him in a submarine. If they fought in the open, Magneto could just suspend him in the air and throw him into the sea or something. Shaw has no way of reaching him.
@@Commanderziff that's not how energy works. You can't multiply watts by time to get watts. You underestimate the energy from the sun. The sun on average has an intensity of 1000W/m^2 Assuming shaw absorbs the surrounding light around him averaging 1 m^2 in just one day that's about 1000W x 3600S x 8 for 8 hours = 28.8 megajoules that's just in one day. For reference a grenade like the one shown in the movie has roughly 200-300 kj. One ton of TNT contains 4184 megajoules which would take roughly 150 days to fill. The kinetic energy of bullets and chemical energy of bombs is significantly less than the sun. Realistically getting energy from the grid is far easier and faster than standing out in the sun considering that a human doesn't a very large surface area and a heater or any contraption can use an arbitrary amount of power like a giant room sized microwave at 100 kilowatts
But surface area of his body sitting on the surface of the planet means the amount of energy at any one point touching his skin isn't impressive. It takes awhile just for us to get sunburnt, he's not going to get as much sunbathing as he would eating a grenade. And there are limits to how much he can absorb too if you stuck him on the surface of the sun he'd just die.
Now this is sci fi and he is mutant... So anything is possible, if he can absorb exponential amount or his cells can store the electrical charge more than its cellular limit or he had evolved into a walking deadly power collector... It's always one answer,. He is a MUTANT..☺️✌️
Sebastian Shaw's ability is just Energy Control. He passively and actively absorbs all kinds of energy, and can then use that energy for different things. He can revitalize his cells to keep him young. Boost his Kinetic Energy to give him super strength. Absorb Kinetic and Heat Energy to avoid damage. Absorb Radiation to then empower his other abilities.
For the movies they really combined Shaw's powers and Bishop's powers. In the comics Shaw absorbs kinetic energy which makes him stronger and more durable. He can absorb other kinds of energy but is is not as effective and can be more painful. In the comics Bishops absorbs energy (usually in the form of energy blasts) and then can redirect it and fire it back. Obviously this version of Shaw is more cinematic.
One of the coolest supervillains ever on screen. I was rewatching this after ages the other day and I was struck by how good the CGI (in some places) looks so good for a decade old movie, while nowadays, every Disney movie looks like something out of CW during the early 2000’s era.
Man I can't believe the first ever black X-Men was also the first ever X-Men to be killed. Even when I was a kid the "black guy always dies first" cliche was old
He doesn’t have invulnerability, he just absorbs the kinetic energy from blows such as as bullets so they become harmless the second they touch him. And he doesn’t have super strength but just expends a little bit of absorbed energy to, say, throw a man 30 feet into the air. All of his powers stem from one thing: his ability to absorb energy and reuse it
wait so i they somehow catch him, and using a knife then slowly stab him he can die from it right ? That why the slow coin able to go through his head ?
@@tuantrinhngoc3003 No, the coin only worked because Charles had him frozen at the time, stopping him from using his powers. A slow moving object still has energy and he would still absorb it
@@bruceli9094A slow moving object still has kinetic energy he can absorb, the slow moving coin only worked because he was frozen by Charles and couldn’t use his powers.
Yes but that's as dumbed down as you could have put it, he can't absorb anything beyond electric and kinetic energy (No photons from the sun or radiation) (Yes I know he was draining power from a reactors rods) He only holds power for a few minutes that's why he never pulls an attack out of his ass that he already had power for, and lastly he never ages but he cannot regenerate people are saying he can and it's annoying.
Imagine if Apocalypse had woken up during First Class and made Shaw, Riptide, Emma, and Azazel his horsemen, all with enhanced powers. The world would have been fucked.
The effect where he "multiplies" while absorbing energy looks really cool. I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking "Oh cool, they are using the same effect as was shown in the comics/cartoon." Yet, I can't find a single example of him doing that in either comics or tv series. Am I remembering something wrong or thinking of a different character?
He really only has 1 power. He can control energy in all its forms which means he can turn kinetic energy into potential energy and back again. People always underestimate the power of basic physics... heck, if Magneto could tap into the entire fundamental electromagnetic force and all contained in it, he could do godlike things. It seems like he only really has the ferromagnetic power down which is limiting if you look at everything the force can do in reality but since comic writers/readers aren't scientists, they really don't get the full grasp of what he can honestly do
One of the best and the most consistent super power in movie Absorb anything that make you immune to every type attacks including physical and energy kinetics You can also rejuvenate yourself just by absorbing energy The best part is you can also return it even if it's just the energy from a punch or shot The only reason he lost was due to mind control because he had no immunity to telepathy
@@PresbianTierYeah. I think if Shaw absorb a lot of energy before it could kill her. Like at the end of the film he was going to absorb an entire Nuclear Bomb.
Shaw is basically the Schrödinger's cat experiment which explains why his body multiplies because he is absorbing, regenerating and like quantum sponge his body existing in multiple layers.
Sebastian Shaw was portrayed by my childhood nightmare (Kevin Bacon) who also played the title character in Hollow Man, the movie I regret watching as a 5 year old kid because I had an extreme fear of human anatomy.
Isn't it curious? The character's name is Sebastian, like another character played by Bacon, meaning Sebastian Caine in "Hollow man"; this movie was released in 2000, right when the first X Men movie was released
@@daphire7602 Bishop's absorption powers have their limits. Shaw's doesn't seem to have any kind of limit whatsoever. Man was suckin' up a nuclear reactor like it was a smoothie. He would have wiped out the sentinels well before they could have killed him... don't think they could telepathically stop him (which is what's needed).
I don't think he has super durability as those moments were just his ability to absorb kinetic energy, his suit on the other hand does have super durability, so maybe just super suit.
Ngl the only bad part in this movie is how dirty they did Darwin. In the comics, he literally adapted to Death itself, yet in the movie he can't control a little energy
The way i see it, he multiplies because he is vibrating from a small excess of energy during the absorbtion process. The more power obsorbed at once, the more he vibrates and it looks like hes multiplying. I know im probably wrong but its how i saw it.
I like to believe that Darwin didn't actually die, but that because like Scotts power, Havoks power is pure energy from another dimension, and for Darwin to adapt to it, he himself became pure energy, turning himself into a being like that of Dr Manhattan. This would kind of explain the bright flash of light that occurred when he "died", it was him essentially transcending the physical plane to a higher form of being. Purely because he can truly adapt to anything.
Sebastian Shaw would have wiped the floor with Thanos with his skills. In any case, it would have been very interesting to see how he would have held his own against Thanos' psychokinetic henchman. For me, it's simply the best of all mutant abilities and totally overpowered.
Shaw from the movies vs. Shaw in the Comics are two vastly different mutants. Arguably Shaw from the movies is insanely more badass... For example, Shaw can absorb energy in the films NOT just kinetic energy. So nuclear energy, solar radiation energy, kinetic and thermo energy. But the insane part is he could in theroy absorb energy from the shifting tectonic plates, our earth's core, and even the rotation of the planet. There's litteraly no end to what energy he could have absorbed IF you just explain him as "he can absorb energy". Theoretically Shaw if he could truly absorb all forms of energy would have put him on an Omega level threat. Bullets don't phase through him, they impact and ALL energy is immediately absorbed rendering the bullets harmless. Same with shrapnel and any object with force applied behind it. The coin scene would have never worked with this version of Shaw. As hard as Magneto pushed, all energy would have been absorbed. They knew they made an Omega threat for the movie just to pose an immediate danger. But they had to kill Shaw otherwise he'd been too powerful for their own universe. Seriously once you start looking into how vast the energy absorption ability is, and what it's capable of, nothing can defeat it. On a theoretical basis of course.
The coin would have still worked, since it wasn't about the minor kinetic energy of the coin but about Charles' keeping Shaw in place and preventing him from using his power.
I don't think Darwin's powers failed .It did exactly what it was supposed to do , adapt to high amount of energy by becoming pure energy and Shaw read him like a book😅
@@sauradipdas1649 Where are you getting this idea from, he absorbed Havoks energy blast also he can absorb ambient energy. So why would this be any different?

He was sucking up a nuclear reactor Safe to say most of the Avengers would've died if fought against him Rogue and apocalypse can defeat him i think Rogue can steal his ability, apocalypse can adapt and heal Jean too should be able to defeat him
Jean could just shut his body down. And her telekinesis is so strong she could potentially eliminate any opportunities he has to absorb anything. Kitty Pryde could potentially ohass through him and knock him out. Not sure how much Blink could help. Wolverine would have his hands full for sure. The Black King would probably be the first to get the opportunity to end that fight. Though it's probably just as likely that Shaw would underestimate Logan, fail to keep his distance, and give Wolverine the upper hand.
In the mcu Strange with the time stone can def pull some strings. Even without the stone he can manipulate shaw indirectly. Shaw cannot absorb magic much less chaos magic, so scarlet witch is another one. Shaw has good strength but really shitty human level endurance, the guy died to a coin to his head, so vision can phase and kill him. Thor could make his axe cut through him slowly. Hulk could be a tie or it could be like the ending of 2003 hulk movie with hulk sending energy levels beyond his limit and killing him. Rogue can steal powers, Jean could suspend him in the air, wolverine can't overpower shaw in strength and apocalypse could go either way, unless movie apocalypse can shur his brain down.
Jean can take his helmet off by her telekinesis then use her telepathy to shut his brain down Kitty can touch his legs to take him with her deeply under the ground and phase again and he can't survive without oxygen under the ground and will die Blink can teleport him a way from her deep in the sea where he can't breath Wolverine has a chance also to defeat him although most of his attacks will be absorbed by sebastian but if he can get close and open his claws slowly in Shaw's skin he will be able to kill him because of the too low kinetic energy to absorb in this situation the sharp part of the claws will penetrante his skin as others said before its not super durability just absorbing keintic energy Rouge will absorb his powers easily Apocalypse has healing powers and adaptation force fields matter manipulation he will make the ground under shaw pull him inside it Now I was talking about shaw without absorbing nuclear power or too much energy because everything will be different about shaw In his maximum potential In this case one hit from him will send wolverine flying back unconscious And even phoniex force won't hurt him too much in that case but still affected by telepathy phasing teleportation powers so kitty blink jean still able to defeat him and Rouge the same Unfortunately for apocalypse the fighting here will be too hard even for him he can absorb the force field its made of energy and power augmentation will just make shaw more powerful and maybe if he did a mistake shaw will kill him in this case
Imma pretend to sound smart but sounds like a complete but kinetic energy moves fast and has momentum which he can absorb on impact ( I. E the grenade, bullets, missile, I think that's havok energy blast which were coming at him with extreme speed also Charles was messing with his mind and in the comics rogue just beat him by throwing him up in the air so that's why that coin killed him) so in theory just do something that doesn't take up much energy Can someone much smarter than me explain this😅😅😅
I got ya. Basically, when you hit something, it transfers momentum, so basically exchanges its movement for the object it hits, thats kinetic energy he can absorb. If its a constant push, a force, then its not transferring energy, and he cant absorb it. Basically an explosion or sonic boom vs a tornado
I think its all about constant exertion plus piercing power. Like bullets have piercing power but theyre done in an instant, but say a knife was used in somebodies hand, its piercing and constantly moving moving forward. Prof x stopping him also makes a huge difference but i still stand by piercing/constant force is the key to beating him
@@matthewbiehl1840 Well the impact from something that could pierce him would be absorbed so it wouldnt go through yes, however he would still be crushed by walls closing in. So the constant force yes, the piercing is not necessary
I remember in comics, before any confrontation, Shaw would punch concrete walls repeatedly for a while to build up devastating energy to use. Theres one panel where hes just punching a building until his hands are tired and he ends up testing it out and it shatters the entire building into dust. His powers are terrifying when used correctly
"mutant psychology" not a power "longevity" side effect of energy absorption energy absorption: his actual main power kinetikinesis: part of his secondary power (energy manipulation) super durability: another side effect of energy absorption (this time, kinetic energy) super strength: another example of energy manipulation (and against it's kinetic energy) One you missed: he can "send back" the exact amount of energy he just received in a very similar form (energy memory? energetic mimetism?). Weakness: kineticless assault. Moving the coin is very much kinetic. His weakness is that he's not immune to telepathic powers.
For as powerful as Shaw is with his absorption powers I’d prefer Magnetos powers as he can pretty much lift up the whole planet with his magnetic fields making him one of the strongest mutants and pretty much nothing can get him as everything is made of metal that scene in Days of future past when he drops the stadium around the White House is so badass

Es increíble el personaje!!!!!
Un solo put* poder pero su inteligencia y agilidad le da invencibilidad!!!
Esta rotisimo!!❤🔥🔥🔥🔥amo el personaje
For the movies they really combined Shaw's powers and Bishop's powers. In the comics Shaw absorbs kinetic energy which makes him stronger and more durable. He can absorb other kinds of energy but is is not as effective and can be more painful. In the comics Bishops absorbs energy (usually in the form of energy blasts) and then can redirect it and fire it back. Obviously this version of Shaw is more cinematic.
Sebastian Shaw is so well portrayed by Kevin.. one of my favourite villains… cool calm collected
Originally Tyrese Gibson was going to play Shaw in this movie, but couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts at the time 😊 😂.
@@bryanferratt6598 You mean they were going for that Race Swap garbage even back then😖
@@bryanferratt6598 Glad he had scheduling conflicts. Sebastian Shaw is a white character.
One of the coolest supervillains ever on screen. I was rewatching this after ages the other day and I was struck by how good the CGI (in some places) looks so good for a decade old movie, while nowadays, every Disney movie looks like something out of CW during the early 2000’s era.
Ahh yes, shown in the first clip is the classic power: gun.
Quite common in America

Man I can't believe the first ever black X-Men was also the first ever X-Men to be killed. Even when I was a kid the "black guy always dies first" cliche was old
What about Storm then?
He doesn’t have invulnerability, he just absorbs the kinetic energy from blows such as as bullets so they become harmless the second they touch him. And he doesn’t have super strength but just expends a little bit of absorbed energy to, say, throw a man 30 feet into the air. All of his powers stem from one thing: his ability to absorb energy and reuse it
wait so i they somehow catch him, and using a knife then slowly stab him he can die from it right ? That why the slow coin able to go through his head ?
@@tuantrinhngoc3003 low speed = low energy. Nothing to absorb
Shaw's mutation is he can absorb and store energy and release it in a controlled manner.
Then why not just stab him with a knife... Lets see how he'd release a Knife stuck in his gut..
Actually thought Sebastian shaw was a much more fun villain than magneto. I wish he was in more movies.

2:51 You can see the energy through his arm!
I never really thought I'd see Kevin Bacon play a character quite this sinister. One of the better X-men movies imo. He's the whole reason really.
Bishop does it in the comics I think
He really only has 1 power. He can control energy in all its forms which means he can turn kinetic energy into potential energy and back again. People always underestimate the power of basic physics... heck, if Magneto could tap into the entire fundamental electromagnetic force and all contained in it, he could do godlike things. It seems like he only really has the ferromagnetic power down which is limiting if you look at everything the force can do in reality but since comic writers/readers aren't scientists, they really don't get the full grasp of what he can honestly do
not "all its forms", that's the beyonder
Mangeto in the comics can tap into basically all electromagnetic forces, making him a literal god.
One of the best and the most consistent super power in movie
Absorb anything that make you immune to every type attacks including physical and energy kinetics
You can also rejuvenate yourself just by absorbing energy
The best part is you can also return it even if it's just the energy from a punch or shot
The only reason he lost was due to mind control because he had no immunity to telepathy
a fight between bishop and shaw would be insane !!
Nah bishop he ain’t go no chance
Bishop is nowhere near shaws level of power.

Fuck man, he was my childhood nightmare too. Thanks for reviving my fears!
Hollow Man is actually a great movie. Except for Elizabeth Shue. She doesn't work for me in that role. The rest of the cast is awesome.

0:15 That was a frag granade, does he also absorb metal?
It absorbed all the energy of the explosion leaving the shrapnal with less pierce power then a perfectly round rock that got thrown
He absorbed the kinetic energy of the fragments
Isn't it curious? The character's name is Sebastian, like another character played by Bacon, meaning Sebastian Caine in "Hollow man"; this movie was released in 2000, right when the first X Men movie was released
If Kevin Bacon becomes evil, he should just change his name to Sebastian
A shame Magneto had to go and kill him. He would have given the Sentinels a run for their money 💁🏻♂️

The way i see it, he multiplies because he is vibrating from a small excess of energy during the absorbtion process.
The more power obsorbed at once, the more he vibrates and it looks like hes multiplying.
I know im probably wrong but its how i saw it.
Kevin Bacon fit perfectly for this character
Really an awesome character
I really want see him in a movie as Protagonist
I know will be EPIC
I like to believe that Darwin didn't actually die, but that because like Scotts power, Havoks power is pure energy from another dimension, and for Darwin to adapt to it, he himself became pure energy, turning himself into a being like that of Dr Manhattan. This would kind of explain the bright flash of light that occurred when he "died", it was him essentially transcending the physical plane to a higher form of being. Purely because he can truly adapt to anything.
Exactly the only way his body could actually survive the energy was to become energy
On a theoretical basis of course.
that's why i hate writers, can never let true villains win
The coin would have still worked, since it wasn't about the minor kinetic energy of the coin but about Charles' keeping Shaw in place and preventing him from using his power.
I don't think Darwin's powers failed .It did exactly what it was supposed to do , adapt to high amount of energy by becoming pure energy and Shaw read him like a book😅
Holy crap, thats unsettling, mr shaw just consumed darwin.
His body could not comprehend what kind of energy it is. He can only adapt to the general elemental kind of energy like electricity, fire etc.

Kevin Bacon acting skills is always top notch. UNDERRATED VILLAIN
I think his power was just kinetic energy absorption, along with longevity that's about it
I like him more than Thanos as a villain tbh, so cool. Shame there isnt more of him
Kevin Bacon was absolutley superb in this role.
Had to watch this movie over n over again because of Sabastian Shaw...
Could Rogue, Kitty, Jean, Blink, Wolverine, or Apocalypses defeat him? How tough would he fare against any of the Avengers?
He was sucking up a nuclear reactor
Safe to say most of the Avengers would've died if fought against him
Rogue and apocalypse can defeat him i think
Rogue can steal his ability, apocalypse can adapt and heal
Jean too should be able to defeat him
Jean could just shut his body down.
The comics are a way different story
Jean can take his helmet off by her telekinesis then use her telepathy to shut his brain down
Kitty can touch his legs to take him with her deeply under the ground and phase again and he can't survive without oxygen under the ground and will die
Blink can teleport him a way from her deep in the sea where he can't breath
Wolverine has a chance also to defeat him although most of his attacks will be absorbed by sebastian but if he can get close and open his claws slowly in Shaw's skin he will be able to kill him because of the too low kinetic energy to absorb in this situation the sharp part of the claws will penetrante his skin as others said before its not super durability just absorbing keintic energy
Rouge will absorb his powers easily
Apocalypse has healing powers and adaptation force fields matter manipulation he will make the ground under shaw pull him inside it
Now I was talking about shaw without absorbing nuclear power or too much energy because everything will be different about shaw In his maximum potential
In this case one hit from him will send wolverine flying back unconscious
And even phoniex force won't hurt him too much in that case but still affected by telepathy phasing teleportation powers so kitty blink jean still able to defeat him and Rouge the same
Unfortunately for apocalypse the fighting here will be too hard even for him he can absorb the force field its made of energy and power augmentation will just make shaw more powerful and maybe if he did a mistake shaw will kill him in this case
Darwin was like, "Screw being a mutant, I have an audition to work for Dr. House."
2:30 Kevin Bacon should be next Magneto lol. His performance is legendary at this scene. Looks like Magneto himself
He already played Shaw, it wouldn’t make sense
Sebastian Shaw is the Vandal Savage of the Marvel Universe
Their Immortality genocidal tyrant who seek to start a revolution and rule the world with iron 👊……Pretty much.
So you telling us that Sebastian Shaw weakness is kineticless assault. We saw Magneto kills Shaw by using a metal coin because of kineticless assault?
Imma pretend to sound smart but sounds like a complete but kinetic energy moves fast and has momentum which he can absorb on impact ( I. E the grenade, bullets, missile, I think that's havok energy blast which were coming at him with extreme speed also Charles was messing with his mind and in the comics rogue just beat him by throwing him up in the air so that's why that coin killed him) so in theory just do something that doesn't take up much energy
Can someone much smarter than me explain this😅😅😅
@@daphire7602 because professor x is mind controlling him i guess professor x stop his power for a moment
Dude was so powerful they had to stunlock him to kill him 💀
sabastion shaw has such a awesome power
In my opinion, Sebastian could've gaced off successfully against those deadly sentinels in the "Xmen: Days of Future Past" movie
I don't understand how he suddenly became a mutant when he was just a human
You'll need to know the comics for that
Shaw didn't *become* a mutant, he would've just been hiding it.
@@Jackson-ub1uv I thought he experimented on magneto and replicated the mutant dna to put it in him
Shaw is awesome!!
Really dont know if Phoenix or Apocalypsis could beat Shaw, he was insane, the best power ever.
First part was german meaning Alles Gut (everything good) and drei is three
Ah yes, his most formidable power; gun.
Guy: "Put that man down or we will open fire!"
Shaw: Proceeds to put that man very up.
The way he just eats up a grenade in front of general shepard, price could never😂
Basically Black Panther’s suit powers.
The guy with the rocket launcher shouldnt have skipped the first part of the video. Then he would've known about the explosion thing
can shaw able to absorb magic?
If I remember correctly comic shaw can idk about this one
"mutant psychology" not a power
"longevity" side effect of energy absorption
energy absorption: his actual main power
kinetikinesis: part of his secondary power (energy manipulation)
super durability: another side effect of energy absorption (this time, kinetic energy)
super strength: another example of energy manipulation (and against it's kinetic energy)
One you missed: he can "send back" the exact amount of energy he just received in a very similar form (energy memory? energetic mimetism?).
Weakness: kineticless assault. Moving the coin is very much kinetic. His weakness is that he's not immune to telepathic powers.
He's so powerful no wonder why he's an avenger
Huh? this is xmen not avengers and he’s a villain 😂😂😂
Super filmik 👍😎
For as powerful as Shaw is with his absorption powers I’d prefer Magnetos powers as he can pretty much lift up the whole planet with his magnetic fields making him one of the strongest mutants and pretty much nothing can get him as everything is made of metal that scene in Days of future past when he drops the stadium around the White House is so badass
This movie is awesome
You forgot shaw's ability to fly while being dead.
