In this video I’m explaining the relationship between model movement and camera movement as well as give some advice on how to direct your actors better for more cinematic looking b-roll shots in your videos. Whether you’re working solo or with a director, as a DOP it’s important to understand the relationship between camera movement and model movement and what exactly makes the shot work. #howto #cinematic #broll #video #cameramovements #actors

As a seasoned photographer but newcomer into videography and cinematography I have found a wealth of useful information on your channel. No upbeat or/and hyped anything, but a genuine and thorough approach revealing a true artisan (you). In short your work (videos) are much appreciated. Keep up the good work.
Wow, that's such good feedback, especially coming from a season photographer. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice comment and for watching my videos. I really appreciate it so much! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you Jacques! This was super helpful. I didn’t realize the more practical function of calling “action” until I watched this.
Yay thanks Jonathan, so stoked to hear from you! It's one of those things that they just don't teach us so I'm glad it helped!
You're the MAN, man. Thank you for the guidance 🔥
Happy to help! Thanks for supporting the channel! 🔥
Nobody else is making videos about this. The details and subtleties in camera movement in relation to the subject is something I've been trying to figure out for a couple years by studying film. This video is awesome. Earned a new sub.
I'm so happy to hear that! I might just start to specialise in this type of content because it's crucial to the end result.
@@jacques_crafford yeah all the gimbal tips out there are pretty similar and focus on the gimbal itself. We need more discussion regarding composition involving the models. I'm excited about this. 🔥
This type of video with practical examples of actual camera operator examples are really useful.
So glad to hear that, I'll do more of these for sure!
Thank you so much Jacques! There’s so much talk about the technical aspects - which are important, but IMO always secondary to the how and why of the footage itself.
Absolutely, the how and why is vital. Thank you so much for watching and for commenting.🔥
This was great, thanks!
I don't remember any other filmmaker showing this important aspect of shooting good looking videos.
Thanks Harri, I'm trying to share stuff you don't learn everyday on RUclips
Ahhh yess timing on shoots is so important. I’ve had this many times. And I also go for more takes to get it right. And you have to remember that the client and actors don’t know how it looks and they usually just think that after 1 take when they saw “the thing” happening with their eyes that it all worked. But they don’t know if it was perfectly coming together. This is where good directing while shooting is so important.
So agree with you! Love it when people understand! Thanks for your feedback :)
Thanks Jacques ! keep going with your tutorials it's very helpful and different than we can see on the other channels ;)
Aaaw that's really cool to hear thanks Julien, I hope to make many more interesting ones! Just dropped a new one.

Thanks, so glad to hear! I just dropped a new one :)
Hey man, you have some of the best tutorials I've seen! I've just binged quite a few of them haha. I do have a question for you: I've noticed you use a lot of the same clips from different projects in your tutorials (all of them are awesome btw), but as you bring in those clips into a new project, do you re-color grade them every time? Or have you found an efficient way to reuse clips in new projects?
This is the hardest thing about film making for me. There are a lot of tips about posing for photography but dynamics of the filming is different, so i can not find a guide. It is getting even harder if you don't work with professionals because of job. I mean that i filming weddings. And i wonder how you guys do not shake the camera while giving a command to your model :D
Great tutorials btw. Thank you.
I love your tutorials they are helping me, am from Kenya
So glad to hear thanks for taking the time to write this!
@@jacques_craffordyou are welcome and pliz were did you learn all this did you go to A film school
I really appreciate n want to improve on my camera work
Yay thanks, hope to help you a lot going forward!
Jacques, great video. How you keep the onion in Focus? Did you use Focus Tracking?
Excellent
Thank you Sachin!
Awesome! How are these handheld tilts so smooth, I’m mindblown! Is the tilt from the shoes up to the model’s face using catalyst browse / lens IS / stabilisation in post / nothing? I’m shook haha
Thanks Myles, really appreciate your feedback! Those shots were handheld using the IBIS + Active Steady on the Sony FX3, no stabilisation in post.
Good video some kind of learning but i mostly known a lot of this stuff :) thanks by the way
You're welcome, I'll do some more advanced ones in the future
@@jacques_crafford i love learning these onion shots cooking stuff… :) but this is possible to adapt to other video stuff, check out my work if you want wanna hear your feedback if you have time thanks

Great information 👍. Which lens did you use in the skate park shoot?
Thanks glad you enjoyed it! I used the 24-70mm F/2.8 and the 50mm F/1.8
🔥🔥🔥
Whooohooo thanks!
such a useful video jacques! i don't think anyone has ever captured this cam interaction this elaborately. i'm planning to make a "youtubers control my life for 24h video". do you have a challenge for me? :D
Thanks so much for your kind words and support! Your video sounds like a cool idea, can you maybe elaborate I just want to make sure I understand correctly :)
@@jacques_crafford hi there. thanls for the reply! i basically run around and do whatever you tell me. like "go outside and do a cartwheel in front of a stranger" :D
Great video, what’s your F stop setting?
Thanks! I usually shoot as shallow as possible so between F/1.8 and F/2.8
Mahal kita!
Thanks JP!
Great job..did you shoot with pp 7 along 3?
Thanks so much, I shot most of it on PP8 in Slog3 but one of the shots was in S-Cinetone
@@jacques_crafford Thanks for replied I use Sony a 7s2
1. Use props
Handbag phn fell on ground while walking get timing right
Great!
I see you are using the m1 mac mini with a7siii & fx3 fottages.. how does it perform with davinci ?? do you need to create proxies??
Yes you are correct! The M1 performs really well in a 1080p Timeline, I don't use proxies unless I start grading intensely but the magic of the M1 is that it renders proxies REALLY FAST! And the final export is also quick :)
@@jacques_crafford then I guess the next M1X will be just the perfect workhorse
