that is still americas only rig sized v8.. going for extinction. the mack e9 is a scania derivation. I drove in the r6 in 1978...they actually called those scanias. The 3408 cat is not even 90 degree, a camera will not notice its got a wobble like a v6... no balance. Scania is still my favorite rig engine.. even with 40 years of american trucking.

@Pekka22 How so? It's a modern truck engine... It exists in both Euro 5 and Euro6 and is used all across Europe. It's the V8 that was in the previous generation Scania R730 (730hp, the second highest hp count of any production truck in the world, only bested by the Volvo D16 which is a 16.1L I6 with a maximum of 750hp, although tested with over 800hp). They follow EUs CO2 emition regulations so they are completely legal in both Finland, Sweden (I've driven one myself and I barely noticed that it weighed 64 tons), Norway, Denmark, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Italy, etc.

Interesting selection, gotta love the old workhorses still lapping the earth.
Idea for a future vid maybe: Starters. There's many kinds. I'm reminded of old tractors that used a shotgun shell to kick over a frozen engine, they exist! Air compressor style starters that release 200psi(est)in a single ear shattering blast. Maybe old aircraft style "winder-up for a minute, then engage it for the- chewg-chewg-chewg". There's vids of using smaller engines to start huge engines around too.
Just an idea, might be interesting. :) Keep up the great work VisioRacer!

If you're willing to make a second chapter one day, do a research for a Brazilian brand called FNM, very popular in the sixties and seventies, who made cars and mainly trucks, with licensed Alfa Romeo technology. Later on, the brand was absorbed by Fiat.
Their low-spin, throaty six-cylinder engine is a dream to listen, and a milestone on Brazil's automotive history.

Add to that the fact that you can have a Diesel engine that is almost _purely mechanical._
Once started, a mechanical engine can run without needing any electricity.

I got into a discussion with a mechanic/shop owner over diesel engines. It was years ago and came about as I was picking up my car from his shop. As we were talking, a very throaty semi passed by and I mentioned how I love that sound. We!l, he took exception saying a well tuned gasoline engine can sound better. I said that is true, but a gas engine can't growl the way diesel does, especially when they do a compression release. That is a beautiful sound.

That 7.3 PowerStroke I love those a lot we use to have a 96 Ford F-250 that was powered by that engine and it would large heavy loads with ease. Before we got the truck my grandparents used it to pull a 30 foot RV and when going up mountains the truck would not lose power at all. The big Scania V8 those are awesome. I have seen videos of tractor pullers in Europe using Scania V8's in the modified tractor pull class and the sound awesome!!

Diesel and gas/petrol are a different breed between engines. I appreciate both sounds myself. Diesels produce more torque more efficiently compared to gas/petrol engines.
