    What a great collaboration, I've always followed audioholics because I respect and love the detail that goes into their reviews. We need more people like Gene in this industry to keep us in the know when manufacturers try to deceive us with their inflated specs. I really enjoyed this video although the ending seems cut short a bit. Anyways I'm hoping first timers would Hiiiiiiiiiit that subscribe button because my friend you deserve it 👍

    Bought Vizio PX 75, Vizio ATMOS soundbar 36514 and Nvidia Shield PRO streamer.
    The problem is Puerto Rico electric grid.
    Fried Vizio TV 3 weeks old.
    Returned TV at COSTCO for a new same model,
    and bought a Cyberpower 1325/810 syne wave battery bkup
    as a surge protector, voltage regulator.
    1030 jules protection,
    Though the "simulated" syne wave model 1500v/900w has 1500 joule surge suppression.
    Will this work/protect?
    How do you protect you’re system?

    One of the best things I heard Gene say was that one should not go nuts over room treatment and that the brain and ears naturally compensate and naturally adjust to the environment (acoustics). One simple way to confirm this is to play a piece of music at low volume for a few minutes and then play the same music at loud levels, and then play the same music back at the same low level and it will then be difficult to hear. My wife and I were watching Pacific Rim last night at 76dB and after shutting everything off I forget to lower the volume level back to 'normal' and I tuned the tv on and it was so loud I thought I blew the speakers. Oh, the 'joy's of being an audiophile. Great video. Thank you.

    I know this is old but I had dtopped watching Gene when he was testing speakers hung from a tree. Super house even though he has moved or is moving or what ever. I love the way he takes on cables! He has brought me back.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  3 года назад

      Gene has been beating that horse for years lol. Most people realize that cables do not change the performance of your speakers. And those that do, there are no amount of measurements that can be shown to them that would convince them otherwise. Brands make uber expensive cables because there will always be consumers who will buy them.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics 2 года назад

      We "measure speakers hung from a tree" as you put it to take the room out of the measurements so you can accurately the loudspeaker response. This is the closest way of getting a true anechoic response and much more accurate than measuring inside of a room with a Klipple nearfield scanner at your disposal.

    Gene, like what you did with your ceiling adding the diffusion. Often an overlooked room treatment beneficial in rooms that could use a bit more height. When my HT came together we did rows of angled 2 x 10 wood blocks with a layer of Owens Corning over the central part of the room, a combination of absorption and diffusion. Like you said, it effectively raises the height of the ceiling 1 foot. My only suggestion would be to do a motorized screen and bring it forward so that it lines up with the floorstanders.

    I really enjoy and find videos from you both very helpful. Thank you Gene for the bench test video on the Marantz SR-8012 as it help cement my purchase of the receiver and it has been a great addition to my home theater. I love your home theater with the projection and Klipsch Lascala's behind the screen! Also found your video on the SR-8012 helpful as well. My home theater is not as elaborate and nice as Gene's and not as nice as yours but I love what I have accomplished in less than 1 1/2 of investment. HT System: Marantz SR-8012 11.2 (7.2.4) Receiver, Emotiva XPA-3 3 Channel Amplifier, Sony XBR55A9F 55"OLED 4K HDR/Dolby Vision/IMAX Enhanced TV, Panasonic DP-UB9000 4K UHD Blu-ray Player, 4K Apple TV 64GB, Speakers: Altec Lancing A-7's (L&R), Klipsch RC-64 lll center channel, Klipsch RP-600M surround speakers, Advent Marbles (height speakers), HSU VTF-3 MK5HP subwoofer. AudioQuest cables, Pangea Audio speaker stands, Harmony Elite Remote.

My PC gaming room will have Q acoustic 3000i series speakers, 12 inch q acoustics subwoofer, and yamaha receiver. My home theater/console gaming room will have homemade speakers and amplifiers. awesome collaboration i really enjoyed this video a lot. I'd learned more from talking to Gene in a video chat ( a service that audioholics gives) for 1 hour than all the research i did in a couple of years reading articles, and trying to guess what would be good for my system. The Videos that Youthman and Gene from audioholics make are invaluable. I dont live in the states so i don't have the luxury on returning products i don't like, it cost to much to have things shipped then return back.So whenever they vouch for a product i can buy it with no worries that it sucks.

    Awesome setup! Could you elaborate more on why you don’t like bi-pole speakers for surround speakers? I’m looking on adding so my the HT room we’re building and I was considering bi-polar because of how close one of the seats would be to it.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  5 лет назад +1

      When I built my home theater 12 years ago, it was recommended to use bipolar or wide dispersion speakers. With the advent of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and object based surround, most suggest using direct radiating speakers for surrounds as you want them to be very directional to give those spacial cues.

    I love this and I bow to this man’s feet but I’m a tad disappointed he hasn’t at least one fancy retro/vintage setup. Modern speakers have come so far but there is a charm that’s been lost from the days of running ultra high efficiency lightweight drivers. I’ve heard so many ultra sharp crystal clear modern systems that blow my mind but I always come home to my mental ass reasonably cheap Tannoy Berkeley’s. I think they sing more than they try to be accurate.

      Haha I literally finished editing the video about 30 minutes before it started. For some reason my editing software decided not to export the entire video. You literally only missed about 15 seconds of me saying goodbye and thanks for watching

    *So today I picked up a RSW-12, hooked it up and got a continuous “pop” noise. I turned it off and back on again, nothing. Checked the fuse and the fuse seemed fine. So I’m just going to assume it’s a bad amp. Does anyone have a replacement amp for a RSW-12 by any chance?*

      That’s not good. Hope you find a replacement. Check EBay...there used to be a guy that repaired them

    Gene in your 5.1.4 system the family one i thought for this set up your 5.1 rear should be at back wall instead you have bi polar along side listen level ?

    • @C--A
      @C--A 3 года назад

      In a 5.1.4 set up the surrounds are the side surrounds. placed at the left and right sides of the main seating position. For a 7.1.4 set up it has two additional back surrounds. That are placed behind you on the rear wall.
      But in a 5.1 or 5.1.4 set up if you don't have any room to place the surrounds at the sides. You can place them on the rear wall instead. 2 feet or higher above ear level for a 5.1 setup or at ear level for a Atmos setup.

    I have to add that I completely agree about having someone really appreciate the work you’ve put into your system. Where I live it pretty much feels like I’m the only one that appreciates it. I have yet to have some one come over that really gets it.

    Hey Youthman, and Gene offcourse!
    I have watched a lot of your content lately, and I'm really impressed by your explanations about home audio. Especially Gene with the measurements. But you my friend have some high sensitive speakers in your livingroom.. and as seen in this video you really liked the 'analog' sound from the record player Gene has. If you someday become a big fan of analog audio. Klipsch is the right brand to put on a single ended tube amplifier in triode mode to set up with a good turntable and records before 1983. When u use the philips el34 tubes so will be blown away with clarity, soundstage and the right amount of bass. With.. 12watts rms if you are lucky. I wonder why you guys are not in tube amps when listening to music on records. Sincerely your new sub from The Netherlands.

      Thanks. I have a 2ch setup but it rarely gets used as I’m probably 95% Home Theater. Doubt I will ever go tubes or especially vinyl. I stream music out of convenience.

    This is for either Gene or Youthman. I have a dedicated home theater measuring 12 x 25. It’s in the basement and my floor is concrete. I’m having a bass problem that I really hope you guys can help me with. I’m running an Aperion versus 2 speaker system with 4 Svs elevation Atmos speakers complimented by 2 SVS pb-4000’s. I have tried different subwoofer locations ranging from the two subs flanking the center channel to two rear location behind my main listening position (near field). I’ve also tried diagonal positions with one in the front left of center channel and the other closest to the rear right corner. All positions offer decent bass but i just don’t feel that punch in the chest I should be experiencing. I’m not sure where to go from here. At high levels my walls are shaking so the subs are pressurizing the room. But at my seating location I’m just not feeling it as much as I should. I’ve run audessey in my Marantz 7010 receiver but it doesn’t improve the tactile bass impact. I must have a bass suck out where I’m sitting but this seating location cannot change. Would REW correct any of these issues. Any ideas guys I am at a real loss. I REALLY REALLY need some help. Thank you both for all you’ve done for the Home Theater community.

      The best way to find out is using REW with a UMIK-1 mic to see where the dip is. You can use it to see what locations you get the best bass response. Then pick up a MiniDSP to EQ the trouble areas that REW measured
