Thanks for your advice about other people’s opinions on your art. A good friend was very critical but the best advice came from my son (a graphic designer) who said don’t show your art to anyone that doesn’t make art
Ivy is the most easy on the ear, on the heart, as well as the best of online art teachers in my experience. Her extrapolations on the psychology of art are sensitive and educated. A naturalness with no fuss. Thank you!
I have explored so many different kinds of art, from mosaic tiles and glass , acrylic painting, paint pouring, and also had a phase where I unicorn spit and deco-podged anything I could get my hands on. Now I had this crazy calling , out of the blue, to start clipping magazine’s and begin this new art venture. I have been browsing RUclips looking for inspiration, stumbling on your video. I just want to let you know , I really enjoy the pace in which you work, and unlike other channels who talk about having an idea already in their head, I could not relate and would feel like maybe I’m not cut out for this. That’s where you come in. I really appreciate the fact that you also allow one piece to guide you to the next , without necessarily having it all mapped out ahead. I find mapping out this kind of thing difficult in this particular field of art. So thank you for sharing your art and for your soothing voice and relaxed paced in which you work, I find it a breath of fresh air.
So beautiful! My mom was an antique dealer who specialized in Victorian items, especially ephemera. She passed away in 2006 and I have boxes of it and didn't know what to do with it but in my heart, knew I kept them for a reason. Now I have a reason. Thank you so much! Love and hugs! ♥
First time here. I enjoyed your video. I've done Junk journals with pictures and things, collages. I do my own themes and other peoples opinion doesn't bother me, because Art is the heart and what it means to each person. For example. I sit to do my journals/ collage etc. Because its calming and it transports me to a world only I see .
Spot on, I feel this will be my safe gateway to art. We are supportive to other artists but our own worst critics which make us freeze . Thank you , you are the best .
Hi Ivy, I usually listen to music when I work in my journal, but sometimes I enjoy listening to you create as I do. I am currently working on a journal with a theme of love based on a quote by Mother Teresa, " Spread love wherever you go. Let no one come ever come to you without leaving happier." I share this as it leads directly into some praise I'd like to throw your way... I am so glad you talked about collage being just as "real" an art as oil painting or sculpture or performance art like dance. It makes me crazy when people put others down, saying collage isn't "real art." As you've so rightly said, it takes good composition, color theory, a message, etc. when putting together your journal pages. A journal is all about expressing what we sometimes can't put into our own words. I love how you make what you do so inclusive of those who may not have gone to art school. You spread positivity and heaven knows we are hard enough on ourselves and the world can be ugly, so creating such a warm and welcoming environment helps others be their most creative and true self. God bless and keep on creating! 💝
Thank you for sharing your process .. And an even bigger THANK YOU !!! For speaking about the criticism that people may come across. As like you everyone and what they make or create are Valid! I had an awesome professor that had us critique our work with the class. Always having us saying 1 thing we did like and 1 thing we thought they could do better or change, and the most important WHY for both and not just saying to say say it. In the end it's important for people to remember "It's only one person's opinion." So take it in stride and keep doing what your doing that makes you happy.. And lastly something I really connected with was "That we really don't need any help being negative and critical of our work and ourselves" As most of us are doing that twofold just fine on our own !! Thanks again !! I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos !!!
18:45 I’ve gotten this far and I’m in love. The bottom edges look like little flame licks and add to it immensely. I’m all about happy accidents. I would never want a straight edge And happy accidents become a choice as well as anything. One could leave it, enhance it, cover it, trash it….. it is all the choice of the artist.
Just subscribed. Watched the 3 parts. I've been collecting stuff for a collage I m afraid to start. But..no more. Here goes!! Thanks for the inspiration. Am do drawn to your work! Thanks

Wow, super artwork ! I have often wondered about how best to do collages, as I fancy trying them out, and found this so interesting and informative. Great time and effort taken to explain in depth, ways and techniques to achieve this. A truly wonderful and enjoyable video.

Hi! I’m a new subscriber and so excited to try this. I just wanna know if it’s okay to do this on a canvas, like on top of an acrylic pour paint? Which paper are u using?
When you first said Evelyn Nesbitt, I was thinking of Elizabeth Sidall. I am not an artist at all. I'm merely an appreciator. I've seen the documentaries on the tragedies of each model, and while I initially confused the two, it's remarkable that times haven't really changed much.

And, speaking of “gateways” into art, is safe, easy, inexpensive and BIG, BIG FUN. 🎈🤸♂️🎈🤸♂️🎈I started making art after 20 years away from it working as a writer, with a gel plate. You can make standalone prints or images for collage or mixed media. But mostly it’s UNintimidating.

Just wondering if, while you are gently rubbing the paper backing off, if you could lightly wet a larger portion of the picture on which you're working, to have it soak a tiny bit and make it easier to rub off?

No I'm not using any special paper. I have the best luck with laser prints...but you can use inkjet...it's just best to spray them with a fixative first like a krylon spray to prevent the ink from running when you do the transfer. I would recommend doing some tests and see what results you get.
I am curious as to the thought process as to when to do a transfer and when to just glue the picture on there. Probably preference and thinking maybe a transfer is flat where gluing the picture would have an edge.... just pondering your thoughts
It's a matter of preference either is fine. It's just the end look will be quite different. One will be smoother, have a cleaner look where the other might have a bumpy uneven feel and look to it.
Yes it is mostly preference...it just depends the effect you are trying to achieve. Obviously a transfer doesn't leave you with cut edges like pasting on an image would. :)
Hello Ivy, I absolutely love this art form. Having said that I have tried and tried to follow your instructions to no avail. Is it possible to give me a list of what kind of paper you use to print your images on and is mixed media paper the correct choice for a project. Looking forward to hearing from you.
It can take a few times to get a transfer to work! Trust me I have had several failed attempts too! I just use regular printer paper...nothing fancy. It takes practice to use the right amount of gel medium and the pressure to use. Do some small tests and see how you go. Good luck!
So somewhere you discuss your color pallets for the month. I tried to find a video about it but I don’t see any looking through your videos, do you have a video where you talk about creating color pallets?
Yes I do create color palettes each month for our Studioworks Membership. Each month I release an online magazine that includes a color palette, articles on the creative life, meditations, sketchbook prompts, a video lesson and more...you can check it out here... ivynewport.com/studioworks Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Thank you for this free lesson🙏It was absolutely beautiful! I'm so happy that i found it,you are very inspiring.I will jump right to your website🌺😊 What kind of transfer paper did you use on the picture in the middle, and what would you suggest to use on papers from books. If you dont use printer?:)
Thank you so much for watching. I used a print out from my laser printer to do the transfer. The paper was just regular printer paper. Check out this great article on transfer methods! There are so many! thegraphicsfairy.com/12-easy-image-transfer-methods-for-diy-projects/
You can be good at drawing, but you can lack when it comes to composition, so I think that making collages is a very good exercise for that. It's not so easy to make a beautiful collage even when you have beautiful materials.

Yes it is mostly preference...it just depends the effect you are trying to achieve. Obviously a transfer doesn't leave you with cut edges like pasting on an image would. :)
Holy shit I was not expecting you to past her like that dope I've never done collage this way
Lol. Thanks for watching!
Good luck!
Can u use any photo?
So somewhere you discuss your color pallets for the month. I tried to find a video about it but I don’t see any looking through your videos, do you have a video where you talk about creating color pallets?
Yes I do create color palettes each month for our Studioworks Membership. Each month I release an online magazine that includes a color palette, articles on the creative life, meditations, sketchbook prompts, a video lesson and more...you can check it out here... ivynewport.com/studioworks
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

Thank you for this free lesson🙏It was absolutely beautiful! I'm so happy that i found it,you are very inspiring.I will jump right to your website🌺😊
What kind of transfer paper did you use on the picture in the middle, and what would you suggest to use on papers from books.
@@IvyNewport Thank you❤🙏
You can be good at drawing, but you can lack when it comes to composition, so I think that making collages is a very good exercise for that. It's not so easy to make a beautiful collage even when you have beautiful materials.
I love this one so much- which class should i take that is like this?
Um can modpash work also
Don’t feel hurt, a lot of people just so negative. everything can be art and no has rightto criticise
