I remember frequenting Guitar Center a lot in 89. Me and the rest of my band would go and hang out there, pass out flyers, etc. There was a huge guitar competition on a friday night. The place was packed. After the competition the place cleared out enough to be able to check out guitars. Thre was a display that was all US made custom shop Jackson guitars. This was when the granite finish was popular. There were several granite soloists with the one humbucker, one volume pot set up. There was a pink and black bullseye soloist like Eddie Ojeda from Twisted sister. Across from the Jacksons was an ESP display. That was the first me I got to play a real Kamikaze. There was a big sale on Charvel guitars that night. I went home with a Model 2 and a Predator. Thanks to Overnight shifts at Target. Lol! Good times. 89 was the last of the greatest years of my life.
The RR is one of the best looking guitars ever made, i love the sound of it BUT at the same time its one of the most uncomfortable guitars ever... Always dreamed about having one, until i got one.. :D
@@jed_shred_guitars right on man. Really comfotable guitar especially when sitting. I have realised that my arm usually gets really tired while playing with strats

Are you holding it right while sitting down ,the V part should go in between the leg and hold itself in place which makes V's super comfortable to sit down and play with
That looks like one of the guitars Roope Latvala gave to Alexi Laiho in the early Children of Bodom/Sinergy and before then, the STONE days. Nice piece of history you have there
I want one of those "Professional" series that came out in 90 and were MIJ. Those things were insanely good for the money! Real MOP inlays and Logo, great fret work and a ebony fb.
I’ve got an ‘84 Rhoads Student model (rosewood board with dots, my preference) with a Kahler and stock Duncan pickups, serial number is in the early 700’s. The paint was falling off the back of the neck in sharp shards and the points have a lot of damage, but it plays and sounds like an absolute dream.
The neck is very similar, and it’s about 1.5 pounds heavier. I’ll make a full video comparing the two eventually. I have three news videos of this one already lined up.
Awesome! I think those are not the original frets, since they look like stainless steel frets. It might be the reason why they are in so good condition
They are definitely not stainless, and are original. You couldn’t tell from watching the video but, The inlay filler sits about the surface of the board meaning it has never been leveled, there are no signs of chipout from removing frets, no other signs of a refret, and small frets were standard back then. If you check out the old catalogs from the 80’s smaller fretwire was the standard for Rhoads models back then. I also took care of the fret ends and sprout last night and they definitely aren’t as hard as stainless. I believe it is the 89 catalog that mentions special fret wire being made for Jackson.
@@jed_shred_guitars wow! Really cool info, thank you for sharing! I love it. Curious cuestion: does it have the neck angled back just like tune-o-matic guitars??
The neck is very close to the same, it will setup to exact same specs, it’s about 8.5 pounds vs 7, acoustically louder and more balanced (rr24 is bright). This one has better sustain even though the rr24 is blocked. It’s just better and more aged wood. I like playing this one sitting down, and the 24 standing up. They are both absolutely keepers, and special in their own ways.
Cool, love the old Jackson’s. It’s got a really nice fretboard on it. The smaller headstock logo is second only to the early ones that look like a signature done all in one motion with a gold paint pen .
Just getting a older USA made one is becoming a almost impossible quest now. since the newer ones have QC issues people with old ones are keeping them. I cannot even find a 90's Professional MIJ which were incredible Jacksons!

I have a 1986 Rhoads with a Kahler trem on it. Mine does not have the inlays.

I could see that it was green the moment you opened the case.

Yeah they had some finish issues back then, still do sometimes. Fantastic guitars though.
Wow, that is beautiful. They are getting really expensive here in the UK. They rarely come up for sale.
I hear it’s that way in all of Europe. They have definitely gone up in the states too, but not as bad as Europe.
What do you think about the Kirk Hammett 602 ESP is it worth getting it?🤔
ESP gives you the best quality and specs for most price points. Ltds rule dude!
Could it actually be black and the aging of the clear coat has turned green. I have an ebony LP from 90 but in certain light it’s green
No, this one was definitely originally painted green
such a shame 24 frets wasnt the standard back then, id be all over these old custom shops
More for me!
Those frets must be stainless steel
beauty! but um do i have somethin black um the interior of the case
hay just bustin shes sweet
Yeah I realized that while I was editing lmao
Awesome guitar
That bridge is the JT-590 Schaller.
Those were standard in the '80s unless the customer supplied a Floyd.
And the jt-6 and kahler before that
@@jed_shred_guitars Yes, a mild brain fart on my part.
That headstock facing looks like it has been repainted.
I think that’s the camera. It definitely original.
Gorgeous!. How does the neck and weight etc compare to your Japanese rr24??

@@jed_shred_guitars Awesome. Ive been wondering if its worth dropping some cash on the older ones as opposed to a late 90s RR1 etc.
Oh jesus, thats the RR with exactly the color/pinstripes I'm searching for.
The gold lines are not paint they strips if you look the lines on the bottom you can see where they crossed over from the lines coming down
You are right, I just had a look and I can see it.
@@jed_shred_guitars Jackson used pin striping tape for the lines back then.
I want that case for my RRT3, of course I would love to have that guitar!
Nice
I love it
Back when jackson wasn't the worst brand out there.

Where did you find it?
Man I wish I get my hands on Jackson with a Kahler
Most of the early 80’s had them until they started making the jt-6. Keep your eyes peeled, they are around.
I saw a sweet crackle Rhoads with a Kahler on the jackson owners Facebook group the other day.
