Hi, first of all thank you for your videos and for sharing your experiences :) I'm from Italy and because of my love for nordic countries I was thinking for the future to go studying abroad, probably in Finland... I am also not a loud, extroverted or too talkative person and I would love to visit a place where people have a "culture of silence" as someone described it. Despite that, I also like spending time with good friends, and reading that making friendships with finnish people is very hard scared me a bit... it true that it is so difficult such a thing?
It depends on the person. I'm Finnish and I don't think that making friends here is that hard. Actually people here get really excited about foreigners who are interested in Finnish culture :)
+Luigi Verdi I would say that first you need to earn the trust. That way you are able to make good friendships, since nonresidents say often that finns are loyal friends. We dont have so much so called small talk friends.
+jonnenne Hello! I apologize for the delate. I sincerely would like to thank you all for the answers that cleared me out some doubts; I am happy to hear these things because I actually feel that maybe temperamentally I have something in common with finnish people :) If then my impressions are true, only time will tell. Thank you again ^^
Luigi Verdi You should look into a Italian dude called Marcello Ganassini. He learned Finnish from Kalevala (look his translation up if you're interested in folk lore) and at least partly lives in Finland now. He is really interesting guy and his story is funny and inspiring. Just a side note because I think Marcello is such a cool guy.
You have beautiful teeth, take care of them!. What an international trooper you are, big high five!. So you speak Spanish, Finnish and English!. Oh man!. if I marry Katya, amazing aunts our kids will have!. Katya's sister, Heidi and you, wow, oh man!, and a good Finnish government protecting us all. Katya makes me dream!.
YESS I love riisipiirakka too and miss it so much when I'm gone. And Edinburgh didn't really have any snow in the winter so I reeeally missed that as well! xD How long are you back in Finland this time? :)
My few tips: Don't worry if strangers look a bit baffled when you talk to them. We are not used to it, but it's not something we get offended by. If you go to school or work it's less of a weird thing speaking with class/work mates. Just try to actually talk about something you are interested in. We are not big on small talk, so if you ask someone "how are you" be ready for them to actually tell you how they have been doing lately. Almost everyone speaks English and we mostly hate our accent, so don't be afraid to speak English to a Finn because your accent probably sounds better to our ears than our own. Those should get you started :)
I think you are great ambassador for Finland. :)
+maipful kiitos :D

+Luigi Verdi You just need to be more active in Finland than you would need to be in another country I would say.
