    I've always found that its better to label by object rather than colour, say like with your cabinet, calling it 'Navy Cabinet' means that you have to sift through all the colours rather than objects, if you go 'Cabinet Navy' it means that you will find all the colours in that area a lot quicker.

    • @SketchUpSchool
      @SketchUpSchool  6 лет назад +5

      Great point. To take it one step further: You should definitely come up with a system of naming conventions ahead of time that suit your particular project's needs. As you mention: It will save you a bunch of time later when you need to find/edit something.

      No, if there is no window and the room is enclosed, the sun direction doesn't matter because it won't shine into the room. You'll just need to add artificial lights to the inside of the room.

    I am on a mission to start making house plans and renderings. Having a CAD background I started learning Revit. Since I am doing this on my own on my spare time I opted for Revit LT. As you probably know, Revit Lt does not support Vray. I would like your feedback if modeling in Revit Lt, then transferring to Sketch up to then be able to use Vray is a logical cost effective way to render from Revit LT?
    I would appreciate anyones feedback on this!
    Thank you

    • @SketchUpSchool
      @SketchUpSchool  Год назад +1

      If you are committed to using Revit LT, then yes, your best bet would be to transfer your model into SketchUp to use V-Ray for SketchUp.
      Other options would be to upgrade to Revit and use V-Ray for Revit to render. Or, you could just create your 3D model in SketchUp natively (and not use Revit at all) and use V-Ray for SketchUp from there.

    as Sketchup + Vray for years, I still have a problem and still waiting for a new free feature called "unwarp texture" and another called "texture nodes" similar to 3ds max, because I used Vray in the texture as a plain color of diffuse parameters that does not need to use an image like for the metal texture, but the problem is the bump map texture, there is no other way to change its size but to change the UV texture placement parameters itself, I don't want to use that parameter section because it repeats almost you still need to try 50 times just to be able to adjust the exact size in the simple box of the 3D object, the bad thing is that you don't have the freedom to adjust the texture to the exact shape of a 3D object from edge to edge, i tried everything i can do to fix it, i even try to make temporary bitmap for the diffuse parameter just to be able to follow the bump map exact placement, but when i tried to remove the bitmap from diffuse parameter again, the bump map turns back to it's original UV placement but in very small size.

    Hi there,
    I have been looking for the answer to a question, but I guess I don't have enough knowledge or skill about software to find my answer. I hope you guys or any other experts can help me to answer this question:
    In terms of realism, clarity, depth, or overall quality, is there a difference between Sketchup V-Ray and 3ds Max V-Ray renderings? Please help, if I can find the answer, I will have an idea of what direction I should keep going.
    I am good in Sketchup and learning V-Ray rending within it, but somehow I feel like others working with 3ds Max +V-Ray is always ahead! I am not sure if it is only about personal skills, or actually the difference between the two software.. Thanks a lot !

    • @SketchUpSchool
      @SketchUpSchool  Год назад

      Hi Azad - technically, you can get very similar results out of either SketchUp or 3DS Max when it comes to using V-Ray to create the renderings. 3DS Max does come with more tools to make more detailed 3D models (whereas in SketchUp, you have to add extensions to get similar results), so I am guessing that some of the realism that you feel is lacking in SketchUp is due to the models being less detailed than those you see in 3DS Max renderings.

    My contractor is asking about rendering software. Simply, an example is a customer wants to add pocket lights outside but wants to see a rendering of different options. What is the most user friendly software to be able to take a picture of your project, import it and the add pocket lights to see how they look.

    • @SketchUpSchool
      @SketchUpSchool  2 года назад

      Unfortunately, there really isn't a software that gives you a super simple way to do that. You would have to use a 3D modeling software like SketchUp to import the picture and then manually draw a 3D model of the room based off the picture, then use a rendering software to add the realistic lighting (and switch between different options). So you can definitely use SketchUp to do what you want, but if you're new to SketchUp, it's not a quick thing to learn and accomplish. You would need to plan to invest the time into learning how to use SketchUp well, and then more time into how to create realistic renderings. (This would be true in other 3D and rendering software too).

    • @calderart
      @calderart 2 года назад

      @@SketchUpSchool Thanks for the input. I doubt he'll want to or be able to do that. It's really basic but I've managed an artistic mockup using MS Paint. Cheers. If you know of a better software that could be used the same way I'd be open to trying that.

And now, I am an almost expert v-ray user, and I came back here and I still feel inspired, so I dont have to say anything but thank you for this video 😁 .. I really like that meaningful word from the start of the video "Render ready" ... When I heard that the model must be render ready, I quickly realized different important points of rendering. Sometimes, one meaningful word can tell us everything. It really helped me before, until I get better, to the point that I created my youtube channel to share my workflow and also to watch my progress, my content is about workflow, I would love some feedback, if you want you can check it out.. peace!! 😁

    • @SketchUpSchool
      @SketchUpSchool  4 года назад

      We cover how to use proxies in our V-Ray for SketchUp course (in our Video Course Library). If you need to get a comprehensive understanding right away, you can learn more about the Video Course Library and sign up for a free trial here: www.sketchupschool.com/video-course-library
      Also, we will add this as a topic to potentially cover in a future video here on our RUclips channel. Thank you for the suggestion!

    Self thought. But luckily I avoided these problems over the year based on experience.
    Details - is probably the BIGGEST & most common issue with a lot of Sketchup user. Do not think rendering is somesort of magic that will make anything realistic!
    Model your item as the same way it exist in real world! Especially objects that gonna be close to your camera view / subject to highlight.

    When i render my model the quality of final image is very low. I increased both quality and size but it still doesn't work . If it's possible, please create a video based on quality settings.

      No, if you are rendering an interior with no windows then you'll just need to add artificial lights.

    Great video. I don't know about the sudden, random cake joke and children yelling in a 13 minute, otherwise serious video, but the effort was entertaining. ;) 11:14

    Great video! It's very useful thanks! I see that youre using vray for sketchup on a mac. I've been using sketchup for almost 5 years as an architecture student but I never founded the vray extention for mac. Could you please tell us how did you get it?
    Thank you.

    great video , thanks... one important setting you did not mention is making sure all your model only shows front faces....allowing you to render single sided materials in rendering software...theoretically reducing render time by 50%... 6 things you need to know and this is probably number 1 on complex models

    • @zlataha
      @zlataha 5 лет назад

      Can you elaborate on that a bit? Do you have an option in Vray for Sketchup for rendering only front faces? And what does "theoretically" mean here, have you tried it and does it really render faster?
      Thanks in advance.

    • @garyspeed8961
      @garyspeed8961 5 лет назад

      @@zlataha I am not familiar with Vray but I would expect it has a setting to enable [single sided] rendering...ie front face only.. so if you are careful with your SU model and make sure only front faces are external,, ie no back faces visible,, you can take advantage of the rendering software option to render single sided... eg reducing the face count by 50%... the face count reduction may not be as large as that as other software factors may also reduce face count.. eg camera field of view or line of sight...
