Thank you! I recently picked up the Mic 2 and this helped me understand the settings better. I really appreciate all of the videos you are producing!
Thanks so much for the thanks - it help me to keep going :) ::)
Great video, well done ! Could you please explain how to trigger photo capture or video capture remotely by pressing a button of the mic2 ?
Are all the mic settings you demonstrated also available in the mimo app ?
Congratulations. I was all ready to point out a slew of things that you didn't mention, but actually you covered everything. I'm particularly glad that you described the use of the extra audio tracks to add ambience to taste when using the wireless mic. But I would add that the same applies when using an external USB mic - you can still have the option of using the internals at the same time. Using external mics allows you to use wind muffs on them (not easily done with the internals) or you can use a completely different type of mic such as binaural or mid/side. Lastly, it's worth mentioning that in theory at least, the sound in the wave files is superior to that in the AAC part of the video file, as AAC is a data compressed file and it may degrade each time it is copied, for instance when editing. But the chances of anyone noticing are slim, I will concede. Cheers!
Glad to help Peter :) :)
Thank you for the good information. I just got a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and have much to learn.
Glad it was helpful Rob - hope you enjoy the camera :) :) I have an Osmo Pocket 3 playlist here you can watch: ruclips.net/p/PLF3XxzX27iiI96cA-qDPI4zBEMzNskwSm
Thank you for your video. I just knew that I set the wind noise on which that's why I found my recorded videos sound were quite not what I expected to get. Now, I knew.
Glad I could help! Thanks :) :)
Nice video . The settings show all . Which means it records with all 3 mics . Front would use the mic on the front ( opposite side of screen ) but back and front & back ??? . There is no back mic ( screen side ) just a speaker . What is it using for the back mode ( the 2 sides ? ) which is the same as all
Thanks! I think maybe it does some processing to get the front / back by using the side mics maybe as the manual only states there are 3 mics unless there is actually a mic hidden under the speaker maybe???
I don't even have the pocket 3 but found this really engaging. Thanks Jason!
Thanks for saying that!!! :) :)
Amazing!! Where do you edit your videos?
Thanks! :) :) In Resolve - got a whole playlist on it here ruclips.net/p/PLF3XxzX27iiIf-cM4JHtU6me7BhHryOLG
Thanks for sharing this guide, watching it from Pakistan.
You're welcome :) :)
This was incredibly helpful!! There's so much to this camera!
Thanks :) :)
Great video and explanation. I think the internal mic is pretty good on its own but the DJI mic 2 really is superb. Thanks! Subbed.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks and good luck with the Pocket 3 :) :)
Something I hadn’t realised (as I always use the mic 2) is that the in-built mics don’t work like a 360 camera and switch back and forth to cancel out wind or focus on the speaker
That would be a cool feature if they did! :) :)
Great video Jason. Quick question. i didn't see you mention the Low Pass Filter. Is that a setting you prefer on or off? And why? Thanks in advance!
Thanks! You are correct, I could have mentioned that. I never use it I do my EQ work when editing the video for maximum flexibility. :) :)
Awesome sauce. Thanks for letting us know!@@JasonRobertsVideo
No worries :) :)
Great stuff man, clear, concise, informative and entertaining.
Much appreciated! Thanks! :) :) Glad to help!
Thanks Jason, very helpful info and well presented!
Thanks - glad it was helpful :) :)
Hi Jason, thank you for the very informative video. What settings do I need to choose if I want to only record from the Mic 2 and not from the internal DJI OP3 mic?
Example Scene: I mounted my OP3 on the back of my camera car and I'm filming another car on the road which I also have a Mic 2 mounted on it. When I uploaded it to my computer, I noticed it recorded both OP3 & Mic 2 audio in 1 audio track which was synced together. Thanks
Really great video. Thank you so much. You got a new subscriber and I look forward to seeing your other videos on the dji osmo pocket 3
Thanks so much!! I got a whole P3 playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLF3XxzX27iiI96cA-qDPI4zBEMzNskwSm
These were some great tips, THANK YOU!!!! your friend from Canada eh. Subbed and liked.
Thanks so much - have a Timbit for me!! :) :)
Amazing, thank you! How does the audio of the DJI Mic 2 built-in mic compare to when using a high quality lavalier attached to it?
Gonna be doing some audio test videos soon hopefully and it would depend on the lav mic model :) :)
Thanks for the great video Jason! Can i wirelessly connect a second mic? We always use the external mic but with two of us needing to speak and moving around separately, we need a second external mic. Is that possible?
Yes you can! :) :) It supports 2 DJI Mic 2 transmitters
@@JasonRobertsVideo Thanks! I finally figured it out after asking!
Thank you - fantastic tutorial
Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed it! :) :)
Hi Jason, When trying the 'four channel' mix in DaVinci Resolve, I noticed that there is a difference in timing between the Video's audio (Two DJI Mic2s) and the WAV file of the OSMO's internal microphone recording. I guess that this is probably due to the small digital TX delay of the DJI Mic2 microphone / transmitters and Bluetooth. Is there an easy way of syncing the two stereo tracks please?
In Resolve (and others) you can auto sync on waveform or manually line them up youself :) :)
Thank you. Great video. If the Osmo pocket 3 has its internal mic switched on as well as the external dji mic 2, when you export the mp4 video which audio will be on it, the one recorded by the internal or external mic? Hope you can help.🙏
External.
@@JasonRobertsVideo Thank you and best wishes.👍
Can you make a video of your render settings in Davinci Resolve with Pocket 3 footage? Also, I noticed the external mic is set to mono, when I changed it to stereo in Davinci Resolve it seemed to lower the quality. Is there a way to record in stereo?
Is there a way to record video and audio coming direct from my decks (dj mixer) I to the osmo so I get perfect audio to the video thanks
Hi! Nice video! I would like to tune Pocket3 and OSMO Mic volume down, is this possible? sometimes recording on music fests but external mic audio is clipping too. Is there is a way to turn the sensitivity on mic down?
I'm a big fan of your content and I'm reaching out for some advice. I'm in need of a wireless solution to monitor audio, especially when I'm away from the camera or receiver. Could you recommend any reliable systems that offer wireless monitoring compatibility with headphones? I'm open to any wireless headphone options. Thanks in advance for your help!
Thanks! :) :) I haven't used anything like that so I can't really be of help sorry.
Thank you for this video, it's massively useful and I learnt a lot! One question, If I am to record a school concert performance sitting in the audience, is it recommended to use the internal mic or the external mic with windshield (clipped to the DJI pocket 3 and pointing at the stage) ? Thank you in advance for your advice!
If it's inside and the mic is not moving the the windshield might not be needed. I haven;t done this scenario so I would record with the DJI Mic 2 and also turn on backup internal recording on the P3 so you also have the audio from the internal mics as well to give you most security - also turn on float 32 recording on the external mic (+ record internally so you have even more version of the audio)
@@JasonRobertsVideo thank u! Really appreciate your suggestions and I'm definitely going to give them a try! Wishing u every success! 😊🎉
Thanks so much :) :)
Thank you for the video. I tried recording a racquetball tournament and I could only get voice audio and a few shoe squeaks. The ball sound was completely muted even when noise cancelation was off. Tried both the built in mic and the remote. Any settings for that? Thanks,
Hi Joe - that's not a scenario I've tried so don't know I'm afraid.
Great video, thanks for all the information. I was wondering, if you're using two synced DJI Mic 2s with the OP3, is there a way to have these split as separate tracks for editing? I'm using FCPX. Cheers
Sorry I don't use FCPX but you can certainly split a stereo signal into 2 separate mono channels in Premiere and Resolve.
So long as you can record one mic to the left channel and one to the right, you should be able to set the clip as “dual mono” in FCPX, rather than stereo. This gives you control over the 2 tracks separately. Hope it helps!
I did notice you mention an exhaust of a V8 , what would recommend when recording a vehicles exhaust?
I have a question, I just noticed the DJI mic only records in Mono after I imported it into Da Vinci. It's a bit annoying, is there really no way to record in stereo? Or do I have to convert everything?
Right click on the audio track header and choose change audio track to mono :) :)
the external mic in the creative combo only records in mono, unless u have 2 of those external mics.
I always thought there was a mic on the "back" (facing yourself), but I guess that grill is a speaker. So now I'm trying to understand, if it only has three mics, facing front, and sides. Which one is the "back" mic and how does it point to the back or differentiate you speaking vs. side/ambient noise?
Given it only has 3 mics there must be some digital sound processing happening probably :) :)
Great video. When I use the mic indoors with the osmo pocket my audio seems to skip. Do you have any idea why? I'm not moving around and it's in front of me.
That's strange, I use mine with the mic inside with no problem, maybe some weird interference... Maybe make sure you pocket 3 and mic are updated to latest firmware and see if that helps.
@@JasonRobertsVideo OK. I'll try that. Thanks.
So once the mic is paired with the pocket 3 if I press record on the pocket 3 it’s automatically capturing thee audio from the mic?? Is the mp4 file the audio attached to it is that the audio coming from the mic? And the Wav is just a back up?
Hi great information thanks. I don’t understand around 4:00:00 you talk about the benefits of having a separate audio track for mixing. I understand the audio off the P3 sounds different than with the clip mic. But surely you can just separate and use the audio that is linked to the video and work with that (I know it’s an extra step to separate. ) or are you saying that only in this mode are you able to record from the mic and the DJI internal mics? Thanks
Yeah you can, there's so many ways to capture and work with audio with the P3 which is great for such a small "basic" camera! :) :)
@@JasonRobertsVideo Hi again. At 4:30 ish you say the P3 will record from the internal mics whilst the Mic 2 is connected (and recording internally) - is that correct? Or is there a setting that needs to be changed, just watched a video which says it doesn't record from both internal and Mic 2 at the same time (maybe that was made before a software update??)
Turn on setting in menu "Built-in Mic Audio Backup" :) :)
Isn’t the front (screen side) grill a speaker?
Great video! I would like to know if when the DJI mic 2 is recording a single long take manually, would turning off/on the osmo pocket 3 interrupt the recording?
Thanks! It depends - there is a setting in Pocket 3 called "Audio-to-video Sync" that will start and stop internal recording when you start and stop video recording. If you turn this off you can manually start internal recording on the transmitter and it will keep recording internally until you turn it off.
@@JasonRobertsVideo oh. Still slightly unclear. With the Mic 2 running by itself, when turning on/off the Pocket 3, can the pocket 3 still pick up sound from the Mic 2 without interrupting its recording?
Thanks for a awesome video!!
You're so welcome - glad you liked it! :) :)
Hi Jason, thanks for your explanations. I'm still experimenting with the combo edition, I mainly need it for vlogs, but I don't want to always have the djmic 2 attached to my t-shirt. If you avoid windy areas, is it reasonable for you to have good audio only with the internal pocket microphones?
Hi and thanks - yes the internal mics are pretty good if it's not too windy and as long as you stay close enough to the pocket 3 :) :)
@@JasonRobertsVideo Thanks!
No problem :) :)
Thank you. great job done 👍
Thanks so much :) :)
Helpful video 👍🏼
Thanks Gary! :) :)
Thank you. This helped.
Glad to hear! Thanks :) :)
Thanks for the wonderful sharing. I've liked your video
But I need some help. Whenever I try to place my 32 bit audio onto the adobe premier track, I found out that the audio clip are longer compared to the original audio recorded in pocket 3. I think this issue happens because whenever I press the record button on my pocket 3, there will be a slight delay on my dji mic 2 before it starts to record. So meaning that I have to clap my hand to create a peak before I start to Vlog as the audio peak will help me to sync both the audio. May I know have you encountered this issue? Thanks
Thanks so much! You can get Premiere to synchronize clips based on audio so you don't have to do it manually, from memory you would select the video + the extra audio right click and choose synchronize - I don't have a video on it but there's probably loads on youtube showing how to do it.
@@JasonRobertsVideo I see. Thanks for the feedback! So I just wanna confirm with you that this is normal right? I mean the audio length of 32bit from dji mic2 won't be the same as the one recorded with pocket 3.Because I just got my creator combo yesterday and thought this is a manufacture problem 😅
10:23 Thank you for the guide! So umm... I planned on using this camera and transmitter to record rollers and audio... Of my V8 Mustang exhaust... LOL
You're welcome :) :)
There is no gain setting for the internal microphone. Is there such a setting?
Jason youre the best!
Wow - thanks so much!! :) :)
Have you found a way to have the pocket 3 record one mic 2 to both channels without having to copy the mono to both channels in post?
I haven't even tried I'm afraid as it's only a few simple clicks in resolve to change sound channels.
I wished i learnd this before i whent to the reggae festival l. Thanks in advance
You're welcome - hope the music was good :) :) Just put on some Jah Cure after reading that :)
Hello, I would like to ask whether the internal microphone of op3 is better than the iPhone 15Pro in terms of sound quality? I want to record some live with it) thx
Hi, I don't have an iPhone 15 Pro to test it with so I don't know.
Is there a way to record stereo audio using a stereo microphone with a 3.5mm plug?
Hi I just got a creator combo and I went to a rave and the bass or something was to much I think for the microphone the audio sounds terrible and shaky any tips ?
Probably too loud for the microphone to handle - even turned down a microphone can only physically handle so much sound pressure.
Great video thanks.
You're welcome! Thanks :) :)
Can you record stereo where M1 is L and M2 is R?
Good question. I’d like to know the answer to this also.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it Thanks :) :)
And this is what it sounds like, when the doves cry!
How do I control it on the app the mic settings
THANK YOU!!!
Haha you're welcome!! :) :)
If i connect that mic to Osmo, will my audio be automatically recorded by the extrernal mic and not from Osmo body??
Yes (and no) - if you attach the mic wirelessly then the audio will come from the mic but you can still turn on the option in the P3 to record an extra audio file on the SD card from the internal mics at the same time :) :)
Great!
Thanks :) :)
Thanks
You're welcome :) :)
Hi
A quick question
I have a samsung 256 micro sd card used for dji osmo 3 to record video
I have connected to my laptop through sd slot i cant detect in my laptop
Tried many times including installing new and updated drivers In laptop
Still a no go but now i put the same sd card back in my osmo3 it shows no sd card
Pleaee help
Don't know sorry, maybe try a different card and different laptop to see if it is the card or laptop causing a problem.
Cant have the mic and app connected at the same time!
How to SHOOOT without audio at all? Just video?
Don't think you can turn off internal mics - you can of course just not use the audio when you come to edit (e.g. by deleting the audio track or muting it)
@@JasonRobertsVideo if you need 100 clips just without audio it is extra work to delete sound and after export loose video quality
That wind noise makes the internal mics literally useless if you’re outside
Yeah depends on the wind strength and direction but DJI Mic 2 with wind muff will be better.
