- For 20-something millennials in the early to mid-2010s, Brunch was a lifestyle. In this week's episode, Jenna reminisces on the brunch craze, the social and economic factors that made it so appealing to millennials at the time, the reach it had in pop culture, and reflects on the evolution of the brunch aesthetic throughout the decade. She also shares some of her favorite memories (and outfits) from the bottomless brunch heyday.

Growing up in the 2010s my family and I would often get brunch on Sundays. It killed me when my favorite brunch spots started closing down because the food was amazing and the atmosphere was so lively
The brunch in the 2000s and in the 2010s looked so cool back, sometimes I think we should bring it back
Yay! 5:30 AM here and I’m so happy you upload these so early. I pulled an all nighter waiting for this. It’s like my early morning meditation lol
💖💖 I’m in CA so I usually schedule them for 3AM PST each week!
SATC started brunch culture imo. I would hear so much gossip in brunch tables like a SATC episode. 😂
so true!!!
36 years old here 🤚. Loved this video! I LIVED for brunch when I was 22-26ish. Lol - literally lived for it 😂 I loved the way you put it “where you could black out in broad daylight”. Hilarious because so accurate.
Love these podcasts. You are taking me back!
Brunch is/was definitely a HUGE thing with my friends and when I was dating! It’s the only time I’ll go out bc you can sleep in yet go home early and still get dressed up all fancy dsncy ! My husband and I still love brunch and I guess I’m out of touch bc I had no idea it wasn’t a “thing” anymore. My friends and I still love going out in NYC for brunch !
I feel like 2017 isn’t thaaat far back but it felt like a different whole different world back then, making it even more absurd! 🎉🎉🎉 looooved it. Our brunch was always pancakes and croque madam 😅
2017 stands out to me so much for some reason and just recently it’s started to feel like an entirely different era, which is terrifying lol
@@jennaabarclay it was such a fun time
Being from Wisconsin, you know how stuff reaches the Midwest a few years later. So for me brunch in Michigan was still an Easter/Mother’s day thing in the early 2010s. Then I moved to The Netherlands in 2014 just before it became a thing. I think I’ll have to wait another 7 years (5 to reach Amsterdam and another 3 to reach the boondocks where I live) before brunch becomes a thing here since eating out for breakfast is still a rarity. I want some eggs Benedict and a Bloody Mary dammit! There was also a Bob’s Burgers brunch episode and I thought “dang that looks good!”
I'm the same age as Jenna but brunch culture wasn't a thing with my friend group. We were probably just too broke lol
This is interesting, brunch was massive in Australia but for the food and coffee, bottomless brunch was not really a thing unless you were on a hens ( bachelorette) party
Im surprised we never turned a mason jar into a statement necklace 😅
I once saw a mason jar with a stem, handle, lid and straw. Like it was trying to also be a mug and wine glass. When you see monstrosities like that you know a trend has gone too far.
@@jesicaversichele1655hahaha I’m trying so hard to picture this 😅
Don't forget when everybody was lining up around the block to take photos with THAT pink wall or them angel wings for the gram... lol 🙄
I went to NYC back in 2019 and I went to Lucky Cheng's Drag Queen Show Place with bottomless mimosas .. the only thing paid for was food and that was all of $25, a 3 hour nap was much needed afterwards lol
I never participated in brunch culture because I had to wait tables during the brunch shift in an affluent area. In the restaurant where I worked, the brunch shift was usually the worst shift- terrible tips, entitled customers, sloppy drunks. On one occasion a customer grabbed my face in front of my manager and forcibly kissed me on the lips when I was running drinks back and forth from the well.
I'm not sure if I participated in brunch culture.... but I remember having so many friends in the city that would take forever to get something to eat. Like just dragging out the day and I'm like, what are we doing? This when I'm 20 in 2007.
The chaotic instagram accounts though! Good times!💗😂
I still haven't moved on from my mason jar era 😂
I hated the rain in SoCal earlier this week and I think next week there might be some. I hate rain
I turned 20 in 2012 and went to San Francisco for my bday. It was the best time. It’s way more expensive nowadays lmao
Brunch is still fuckin awesome

Loved this episode ❤❤❤❤ You need to do a Victoria Secret episode. I really wish VS would go back to its roots 😢
It’s on my list!! VS PINK especially
I was always at work on Sunday morning at the clothing place and never had brunch friends. I always joked that I wanted to be a lady who brunched
